Thoughts on the Saturn port?
>port
lol
Anyway, not having auto-aim definitely makes it more tense

It's my favourite version of the game.
The 2D backgrounds are of higher quality.
The 3D models are more blocky, but I find them to have a certain charm that way.
But the great thing about it is the exclusive content:
- the first Battle mode of the franchise, challenging but tons of fun, with a Wesker zombie at the end
- a reskin of the Hunter in the caves which makes things look a little less repetitive
- the 2 exclusive costumes are my fav of any RE1 version
Loading times are SLIGHTLY longer. There are other smaller technical differences, you can find more detailed comparisons online.

I like it more than vanilla PS1, but not Director's Cut, or PC, or Deadly Silence

The dithering as opposed to transparencies bug me a little, otherwise I think it's pretty damn good.
I would've collected it anyway
the higher quality 2D is nice but only noticeable when comparing to psx side by side.
for some reason they remapped the zombie noises (when getting hit or w/e), which is kind of amusing at first but, when they are consistent for all other ports it's just wrong.
all in all, interesting port, never cared about the exclusive extras personally.

Playing RE1 for the first time, just got the hexagonal crank. How far am I into the game?

pretty far

between 2/3rd and 3/4th, depending on whether or not you're going for the good ending and have toroughly explored everything to do what the good ending takes.

It's impossible to refer to the PlayStation as the PSX on this board without some autist sperging out over it. Don't worry about it.
