So this released. Does anyone who owns it know if the Master System Version of Fantasy Zone is included or not? I am getting mixed messages with no reviewer mentioning it, but Sega's blog mentioning it in their most recently translated interview, without mention of it not being included.
>>
>>3170692
Well it's a remake but yeah its a remake of the SMS version.

>>3170701
>calling someone a cuck
Get a load of this underage
>>
>>3170692
I'm seeing Fantasy Zone II to be precise. Apparently they made an FM audio soundtrack just for it.
>>
>>3170728
>So we switched out one song, but before we knew it, somehow all the songs were completed. Kasuga said, “We’re placing the notes within the range of the Mark III Fantasy Zone II audio driver, but there’s a lot of bugs typical of an early-age driver so we’ll fix the bugs and then program it into this one (Fantasy Zone). “ Within 2 or 3 months, most of the songs were finished.

Seems kind of ambiguous to me. SegaNerds review also make it ambiguous.

>I am told that Fantasy Zone 1 is included here as well but, like the Japanese release, you need play data from the first 3D Archives game. (SEGA 3D Classics Collection 2, anyone?)
>>
>>3170692
you can unlock it in the options since there's no save data to unlock it
>>
>>3170746
Really? Under what Options menu?
>>
>>3170761
I don't have the game so I don't know, it's under some menu to unlock right off the bat
>>
>>3170775
Alright. Mind telling us how you came across this knowledge? God forbid anyone tells porkies on the internet.
>>
>>3170780
Somebody got a copy early yesterday and people were asking about it during a thread on /v/, so I guess you can take it however you like
I'm sure someone will confirm/deny

Doesn't seem to be in any visible options menu on my copy. The Extras menu just has Maze Walker and Fantasy Zone II. The only other thing I see is an option to watch the Credits.

And here's the title screen.

For anyone getting the collection, check page 63 of the manual for website address for a survey. They ask what other game you'd like as a 3D classic.
>>
>>3170812
Maybe post the link in a new thread or something. I am sure all of /vr/ would have opinions and requests to send Sega.

Played a bunch of Power Drift, worked hard to master Course A so I could race the other drivers as a Hornet above the seas under a blue sky. Felt too good. Maze Walker's surprisingly fun and cozy, and I knew Puyo Puyo Tsu would appeal to me. Collection's definitely worth its asking price for Power Drift alone.

Damnit, for a second I thought the 3DS version would let you play as THE Hornet.
>>
Apparently this collection has slightly tuned versions of the games released on the eShop, though I think Galaxy Force II still has streamed audio.

>>3172580
Nah, but you can do that in the remake. Which doesn't exist, yet (please I beg of you M2). You can still fight as Hornet in Fighters Megamix though.

>>3172569
My mistake, they based the ABII plane on the F-14 Tomcat. But you can transform into that and swerve between the other drivers like a madman and still beat the extra stage.
>>
>>3170930
I'm picking it up this Friday, I can't wait...
>>
>>3172692
No worries, Ace. The Tomcat is an acceptable choice as well. Not the best, but pretty damn nice.

Probably dumb question, but is there a way to "reset" the cart data? Since it was charged at the time I loaded it up on my 2DS to give it a try. Later when I booted it on my N3DS it didn't create extra data like it did on my 2DS or act like the game was 'new'.

Did the survey, voted for Rail Chase as next arcade release and Thunder Force IV as next console one (assuming M2 does any more 3D Classics at all). I figure M2 knows the Y Board well enough to do another game tailor-made for that platform, and TFIV has a lot of parallax that would look juicy in 3D (plus the god-tier soundtrack).

>>3173029
Whatever happens, I want M2 (and the SEGA people they work and chum with) to keep doing releases like this since it's way more productive and essential than the latest Football Manager and Total Wat iteration. Yet I want new Valkyria Chronicles games (not this spin-off stuff, a real sequel set in Fhirald please!), and Yakuza too. SEGA will never have good top management, sadly, which is why they became the classic example of Japanese game publishing managerial incompetence ruining careers and player expectations.
>>
Do you think M2 could handle System 32 stuff on the 3DS? I want Outrunners
>>
>>3173029

>include ONE sonic game on a re-release collection that features tons of classic Sega games.
>ONE SONIC GAME
>SEGA NEEDS TO DIE ALL THEY CARE ABOUT SONIC

Is there something I'm missing here? I don't want to resort to name calling so I won't do that, but seriously dude what is your problem? Whether you like it or not Sonic=Sega the same way Mario=Nintendo.
>>
>>3173229
If they can learn the ins-and-outs of the RISC chip and outlying structure System 32 uses, then it's possible and definitely the best idea for their next 3D Classic.
>>
>>3173029
Don't blame the company, blame the retarded majority that think Sega only makes about the shitty blue hedgehog.
>>

Okay.

What do those two examples have to do with this collection though? Sonic is only on the cover and not on the name.

You're being triggered by nothing but a cover and bringing up a collection that has nothing to do with this one and a racing game that has nothing to do with this collection.

You're also conveniently ignoring Nintendo working with Universal for THEME PARKS. In short, you're shitposting. Stop contributing to the decline of this board, anon.
>>
>>3173234
Personally I think they only included sonic 1 on the collection because they know sonic has the most brand recognition of all their IPs and it would boost sales for a collection that might otherwise go unnoticed by the public.

His methodology isn't great, but he's also not wrong. Sonic has been a marketing tool basically since his inception and resulting popularity. Not to say that Mario hasn't been marketed to hell, but Sonic has definitely been pushed harder, and with less concern for quality and brand image considering the nearly annual cavalcade of crap which sonic appeared in throughout the dreamcast era and the following non-retro periods.
>>
>>3173413
This, that's probably why we didn't get the first volume, marketing figured "it won't sell if sonic's not on it" and even then I could see a lot of people saying "well it's only sonic 1 anyway, that one doesn't even have the spin dash"
>>

Nintendo can't even do anything with their own IPs these days. Forget it.
>>
>>3176954
Yeah, but this one could push them to localize the first one if it sells well.
>>
>>3176994
I honestly hope they don't. I already bought all of them on the eShop, and I'm not paying full price for just a couple games.

They should make a subscription-based model a la Sega Channel, and decide which 3d games to make by seeing which games are most popular. Maybe even let people buy and download ROMs to keep.
>>
>>3177028
Well I only want the second one for the master system games... Plus it has some games I don't own yet... But I think that idea could go either really well or really bad depending on how it's handled. Honestly it surprises me 3DS doesn't have master system support, it should be simple enough to port, but if they're holding back because they're going to make master system 3D classics of things like Alex Kidd in miracle world or wonder boy III than I can support that.
>>
>>3176969
Pulseman's 3D trippy backgrounds and foregrounds would be amazing in true 3D.
>>
>>3177245
I'll be fair, Maze Runner is actually really fun. Fantasy Zone is a plus as well, as I didn't have the 3D classic release.

I think there's no support due to lack or interest, really. I mean, look at the Game Gear Virtual Console releases, they released one set and completely abandoned it. I would totally support that as well, though.
>>
>>3177875
Yeah, also I should mention by second one I meant that the first Japanese one would be the second one in america but I fucked it up because I'm retarded. But I'm still buying the second one for the master system games as well as puyo puyo, Galaxy force, and thunder blade. The others I'm not that interested in or I already own them.
>>
>>3176954
Yeah but they added the spindash to sonic 1 for 3DS.
>>
Ive never played any of these games as I was never much for the Sega side, but I've heard nothing but good about the 3d collection so I kinda wanna go for it. Does it hold up well for a person without the nostalgia appeal?
>>
Do you guys recommend this collection? I'm thinking about picking it up to-day. I was blown away with M2s Space Harrier and Outrun! ports.
>>
>>3180803
wtf man, OP is just looking for some clarification about SEGA games.
>>
>>3180709
>spindash in sonic 1
Heresy
>>
>>3180715
Well It really depends if you like Arcade games or not. The genesis ports are nice, but I personally feel it is the arcade ports that really out-do themselves. But remember, most of these games only have about 30 minutes, to an hour of clear cut gameplay. Then it is up to you.

I really liked Super Hang On with the motion control. Both Fantasy Zone games really shine. But Double is their master peace. Thunder Blade cops a lot of flack, but it is really is a neat game, albeit very, very short. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the arcade game ports at least.

>>3180795
Space Harrier would be my recommendation of the two. I love outrun to bits, but it isn't a very "gamy" experience. Just a shame really they didn't update the Eshop version with the changes they made for the Japanese Archive One.
>>
>>3180709
>>3180827
Sonic Jam added the spindash back when. Where there any other known changes they made in the Sonic Jam compilation?

I'm curious if they changed the original Sonic 1 code for the 3DS release or if they ported the Sonic Jam code over.
>>
>>3180849
In the Sega Blog interview for Sonic 1, they said they sought advice from Yuji Naka on the issue, who basically said "It isn't hard, just think a little." And eventually they worked it out, even with Naka being cryptic.
>>
>>3180715
I don't have any nostalgia either and I can safely say that you should, all the games here except maybe altered beast are great and M2 put extra things into each of the games.
>>
>>3180849
Didn't sonic jam have a mode where you can marathon the special stages? I would've loved for that to come back in the 3DS ports of sonic 1 and sonic 2 but it's not a necessity.
>>
>>3180715
Possibly? You get some platforming, racing, puzzles and a handful shooters... One irredeemable piece of shit too. It's an interesting collection for sure, there should be something in there for anyone.

But me not being a Sega fan I can't say anything's really got caught my attention for too long so far. The first collection was more fun with Outrun and Ecco
>>
>>3180715
>>3180834
>Well It really depends if you like Arcade games or not. The genesis ports are nice, but I personally feel it is the arcade ports that really out-do themselves.

I was a Nintendo kid but Sega 3D Classics are my crack, I have all but three from the eshop. Space Harrier in particular I play non-stop and I had never even heard of that as a kid. Most of the arcade games are new to me. Taste varies but they are all really good games.
>>
>>3180849
>Where there any other known changes they made in the Sonic Jam compilation?

If you enable spindash it'll also fix the double spike bug, where if you fall onto spikes twice in a row you die (ie. you hit a spike, bounce back, and if you fall into a spike while bouncing back, you won't be invincible for a few seconds but die immediately).

I think they also fixed the bug in Sonic 2 where if you pass a level you can still turn into supersonic, but you turn back immediately and get stuck in the air and have to reset.

>>3180853
>they said they sought advice from Yuji Naka on the issue, who basically said "It isn't hard, just think a little." And eventually they worked it out, even with Naka being cryptic.

That seems to be his M.O. Here's a snippet from the Udon History of Sonic the Hedgehog book

>One of Sonic's fathers, Yuji Naka, has always been protective of his creation. He did not like the fact that other teams were using his character, and the first attempts with Sonic Mars were not changing his mind. "Yuji Naka saw the demo of Sonic Mars without saying a word and then shook his head and wished us 'good luck'"

It doesn't really give Naka's perspective, but you'd figure the guy could be a little more constructive with other people working for the same company.
