What are the best-looking Saturn games that aren't ports of arcade?
Rayearth or Astal look pretty cool, but I think they're not marginally all that better that some of the best stuff on MD, SNES or PC Engine.
>>3170416
Saturn games are mostly running at 320x240, right?
I'd expect a lot of stills won't look better than the best 16-bit still shots, but it's got more colors, RAM, and storage space, so you can get fancier animation, putting it in a NeoGeo-like position.

I have a Saturn, but other than arcade ports I haven't come across many games that look significantly better than 16-bit stuff. That game you posted looks great, how playable it is without knowing moon?
I have played the Super Robot Wars games so I can defend myself alright if it has an intuitive menu and I can read hiragana, katakana and can memorize a few kanji.

I liked the sprites on Asuka 120 burning fest, Powerslave, Psychic Killer Taromaru, Princess Crown, and Dragon force.

Princess Crown is probably one of the best looking 2D Saturn games, that's true.
Taromaru is a great game although many of the graphics are 3D (backgrounds).
Dragon Force has neat features such as sprite scaling and having like over 100 sprites on screen, but I don't think it actually looks that good, just impressive for the tasks it manages to do.
Powerslave, I dunno... not what I'd call a 2D game, but I know what you mean, it has 2D sprites. Have you tried Congo for the Saturn? You might like it.
Also I guess Soul Hackers has pretty great spritework.

only watered down ports lad but have fun with your kid toys.

>congo
never tried it but i might be willing to isn't that a lightgun game tho?
>Taromaru is a great game although many of the graphics are 3D (backgrounds)
Yeah i tell my friends that essentially its a game where it looks like SOTN but more akin to alien soldier game play wise. I wish more games on the Saturn did this. Because SotN on saturn gets such polarizing opinions depending on who you ask.
>Dragon Force has neat features such as sprite scaling and having like over 100 sprites on screen, but I don't think it actually looks that good, just impressive for the tasks it manages to do.
I can understand that, i love it only because its just blows my mind on how they do it and its essentially medieval Nintendo wars on steroids.
you should try Asuka 120 if you haven't its a pretty fun game though it took some time for me to understand the fighting mechanics. Music isn't half bad either.
But definitely agree on Astal, the game is on par graphically to something like Last Blade and Garou.
Also, if you wanna count Megaman 8 and x4 as well even if they were multiplats add those in as well.
Silhouette Mirage is probably the best looking 2d on the Saturn. Too bad that the polarity system makes the game nearly impossible to play. You just grind for money and get the lvl6 weapon early in the game, and then try to have fun.
It doesn't look so great on stills, but in action, the game is a beast.

>Princess Crown is probably one of the best looking 2D Saturn games
Far from it. Other than odd looking animation, it has NOTHING going for it. Even the backgrounds are single layer stills. And the gameplay is slow as shit.
>>3170491
No, Congo is a traditional FPS. It's not a great game but if you're itching for some older style FPS with 2D sprites you might enjoy it. The feature I like is that the map traces your path so you know when you're running in circles, it's easy to get lost in the jungle.
And yeah I need to burn myself Asuka 120 and give it a try.
>>3170496
Yeah I didn't comment on the gameplay, but I actually do think the game looks gorgeous.
>>3170497
I'll have to burn a copy for myself soon. Thanks for the recommendation!

But I thought we were talking about consoles here dude..
>>3170485
Wow you're so cool. You must own like every arcade everywhere in the world and only play retro games because you're so hard core and have 1CCd all of them. What a fucking godlike stud of a man.
>>3170416
>but I think they're not marginally all that better
Astal is exceedingly ordinary.
>>3170987
It has some pretty visuals and colors, but gameplay-wise is very ordinary.
By the way speaking 16-bit, I always thought Magical Adventure 3 on SNES was shockingly beautiful. Lots of detail and charm, typical 90s Capcom.
