What's the most weeb /vr/ console? The popular choices are probably PC Engine CD or Saturn, but there's also the PC FX, and the Super Nintendo / Famicom was the weeaboo console of choice in the UK due to Super Play. What say you, /vr/?
>>
Probably Saturn.

Really got to love 90s anime.

PC-FX because of its purity. The only game without traditional hand drawn 2D is Return to Zork.
It even had a cute girl mascot.
>>
I would say any of them depending on what games you get. But if you got money and wanna go hard in the paint get neo geo
>>
How about one that never left Japan? Wonderswan superiority.
>>
>>3167069
There's a whole bunch. Cassette Vision, Super Cassette Vision, CV-1000, Loopy, PC-FX, not to mention various Pong style systems.
Wonderswan will always be in the shadow of the WSC.
>>
>>
>>3166959

and
>>3166992
>>3167356

But the Saturn is probably very accessible in comparison at least as far as hardware and software accessibility is concerned. The Saturn should be notable for the size of its library and many japanese computer ports as well as being generally seen as having some of the best 2d performance of the generation.

It has some pretty neat versions of Tokimemo and Yu-no among many other things.
>>
>>3166992
Seconding PC-FX, literally all it has is animu games.

Other than that, I guess Famicom and Saturn, both which had most games in japan.
>>
>>3166959
This is so stupid. Every Japanese console is inherently the same level of "weeb", which doesn't make sense, because weeb just means wapanese.
Do you want to know which console had the most wapanese fans? The fans who would kill themselves if it meant they could be reborn Japanese?

How does one use PC-FX authentic hardware? I'm in Canada, would a Japanese console even be the right kind of plug for the sockets here?

There are a few games I want to play, and none of them are in English.
>>
>>3167631
You could just emulate them if the sockets are an issue.
Don't qoute me on this, but you'd probably need a Japanese power plug convertor.
>Voltage: 100 V, frequency: 50/60 Hz, power sockets: type A / B

I don't know about hooking it up to a TV or monitor though.

>>
>>3167645

Do you think it's worth it to try? I'm willing to shell out the money for it, there's a lot of emotional significance for it for me. The first anime I ever rented was based on a PC-FX game and it has been the source of endless good nostalgic feels for me. But my technical skill is low, so if something goes wrong and there's a part or whatever I need, I'm probably screwed.

I guess I could emulate it, but part of my willingness to buyfag is so that I can try to time travel back to the 90's.
>>
>>3167645
>>3167631

Here in the use we have 120V 60HZ AC which for most things actually works just fine in Japanese electronics. Getting a 120V to 100V transformer is usually unnecessary. They also use almost the same non-polarized 2-prong mains plug (the blades seem a bit less wide). I say this owning two Japanese Saturns that I use on a US mains voltage. You mileage may vary.

As for the signal, both the US and Japan use NTSC so the signal to the television is the same so as long as it has standard hookups to a TV, it will work in the us.
>>
>>3167725
>Here in the use
Meant *here in the grand ol' U S of A

>>3167716
If you can afford to import the console you can probably afford that little security blanket of a 120VAC to 100VAC transformer for around 60 USD if you think that it will keep the caps and voltage regulators in the PC-FX nice and safe without releasing the magic purple smoke.

>>
>>3167774
Maybe not strictly Otaku, but the Marty was a flop and didn't nearly have the library the Saturn did which has a considerable number of japanese computer ports as well as a bunch of other oddities that while not strictly pandering to otaku, could be considered weeabish just on the grounds that it's waste deep in japanese visual culture sensibilities when it's not really necessary. Case in point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P-ihm4cB3s

Though this also came out on the Playstation, the fact that the system had wide game appeal spanning both hardcore otaku and mainstream japanese strangeness makes it pretty accessible.

>PC-FX because of its purity. The only game without traditional hand drawn 2D is Return to Zork.

I've been playing Lunatic Dawn FX lately, and I keep seeing lots of shooped renders (in the intro, one for the background of each town your party visits), plus the cover has a finely painted miniature diorama.

I'm with you on the PC-FX being the most weeb for its purity, though.

I mean, it's got discs that have clips of seiyuu, plus all the gorgeous anime FMV in games.
>>
>>3167454
There is a combat air-sim, an all female wrestling game (3dpd wrestlers from a live league, not 2d animu) and Zork, they aren't anime.
>>
>>3167847
Marty works with most of the Towns' library. The main problems are the lack of a second floppy drive and small amount of RAM.
But the Towns is more a reverse weeaboo system with focus on overseas games.

I don't think that "weeb /vr/ console" means system that is most like a weeb, but rather which console has a lot of weeaboo appeal. Like if someone asked "what's the most hipster console" they aren't asking which one is most likely to wear flannel and thick rimmed glasses and has a nebulous identity based on contrarianism. It's asking which console has appeal to hipsters.
>>
>>3167786
I'm fairly certain it's Elena from Ys 3

>>3168502
I hate people who try to change the definition of a word because they do not know how to use it. Weeaboo means a person who is not Japanese who wants to be Japanese. It's almost as stupid as people trying to change the definition of rape or racist.
>>
>>3168502
Is there something like the most hipster console? Commercial success and number of games are related so I don't see anybody flocking to shit that only got five games.
Maybe the Pippin due to the Apple connection.

It's funny you say that, because Weeaboo is originally completely unrelated to your definition, you fuck. It's from a god damned webcomic.
What he's saying makes sense. Words can have auxiliary meanings.

Yeah, weeaboo appeal. As in appeals to weeaboos you fucking moron. Like in the terms geek appeal and hipster appeal, it means something that appeals to wannabe japanese.

Also, I'm remembering the old, defunct ED article defining weeabs as white people.

I didn't say that weeaboo didn't mean wapanese. I said that using the idiom "'X' console" means console appealing to "X". What's the most "gangster" gun? Guns cannot be gangsters, but the common understanding would be what weapon appeals to gangsters. What's the most patrician album? Albums are not patricians but any moron would understand what is trying to be said here.

Something doesn't have "weeaboo appeal" just because some weeaboos may like it.

There is almost never a reason to use the word weeaboo. 99,99% of the time when people say something or someone is weeaboo, it isn't. It's a dead word.
>>
>>3172338
>if I start spreading lies about the validity of the word, I can fool myself into thinking I'm not one
>>
>>3172482

Not him but "weeaboo" originated as a filter on /b/ for the word "wapanese". The "weeaboo" word itself originated from an old web comic, and has no real meaning.

Nowadays "weeb" is used to describe, basically, anything remotely japanese, not just "someone who wants to be born Japanese".

PC Engine: something about being an anime maniac and stuff

Mega Drive: something about techno, trance and house music, as well as Kraftwerk and YMO. Something about "Platonic homosexual", not sure what it's really saying about it.

There should be vaporware porn like DK5.
258 colors is a bit difficult. PC-9821 had 256 colors and didn't see as much support as the 9801 with its 16 colors. PC-FX could do a lot more than that.
