A Dave and Busters is opening up near me. Should I be excited? What are some of the retro arcade games they have?
>>
>>3164368
Eh, they mostly have ticket games and shit like Guitar Hero Arcade there now. There's a reason why strictly gaming arcades died out; they just aren't popular anymore.

Cedar Point's arcade is pretty dope tho, shouts out to /vr/ct
>>
Last I checked in one a few years back they didn't have anything retro.

Had the later House of the Dead and Time Crisis though. Were the highlights.

The one in Palisades plaza had a large area just for Battletech Firestorm Pods. Was pretty fucking neat. Think it's gone now.

That place hasn't had retro games for awhile though.
>>
>>3164379
Battletech centers were the shit

>>3164368
Anchorage, AK?
>>
>>3164379
They used to have a bunch of retro machines by the basketball shit at the entrance, but last time I was there they didn't have those either.
>>
>>3164368
The one I went to in massachusetts is full of mobile games on a big screen
a few gun games
1 pac man
mario kart

that's all i can remember
>>
>>3164368
Went to a D&B once and left before entering because it was so expensive. I live near Denver Colorado now and am amazed at how many arcades there are.
My favorite is Boss Stage which has everything set to free play, you just pay an entrance fee.
>>
>>3164447
WHY CANT I HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS NEAR ME
>>
>>3164447
>tfw going to Denver this summer.
I'm really looking forward to this trip now.
>>
>>3164372
D&B objectively kind of sucks but they're one of the only companies in America putting money into arcade machines. Some of the stuff is kinda dumb (fucking Deal or No Deal and Guitar Hero) but they have some decent games. Even some of the ticket redemption stuff is kinda interesting. I say definitely check it out and see if it's your thing.
>>
>>3164627
Denver overall is a shithole.

Smog is really terrible also.
>>
Dave and Busters is alright. One near me has a bunch of great Sega late 90s/early 00s games. L.A. Machineguns, Club Kart, Ferrari F335 Challenge, Lost World, House of the Dead 2-4, etc.

When it comes to modern arcades, though, Round 1 shits on DnB in every possible way. Go to one of those if you can.
>>
>>3164631
Nah Denver is cool. Go hiking and skateboarding and shit then and go the arcade
>>
>>3164727
Denver is a city. It's not a mountain town...

Do you still hang around chuck e cheese? Do you buy grossly overpriced beer at hard rock cafe? If you answered 'yes' to both of those questions, you should be very excited.

Otherwise look other arcade entertainment themed bar & restaurant businesses in your area. There's probably one or two nearby you never knew existed. Cause they're never part of a major franchise and never advertise.
>>
>>3164763
Dave and Busters is nothing like Chuck E Cheese, the one I have has tons of classic arcade games.
>>
>>3164763
My DnB has happy hours and happy days with half priced games.
>>
>>3164759
this is the only good thing at my DnB
>>
>>3164769
Been to the ones in philly & ny and both were filled with rail shooters like house of the dead & racers like sega super gt. Can't say I even recall seeing a single ms pac-man at either location. Tho I have not gone to either in a long long time.
>>
>>3164368
There's a D&B opening up later this year for me as well anon. Either Dave and Busters are popping up again or we live in the same town
>>
>>3164368
Last one I went to had a donkey Kong/DK junior/Mario Bros. Machine, and a ms.pac-man/galaga machine... It all really depends on which ones they can obtain locally so it varies from place to place. However living in the worst state (Florida) I do know of this place called arcade Odyssey and they got a ton of retro cabinets and import games and such... I mean I don't want to shill but the guy who owns it is nice and there's an OK selection so if ur in the area ID recommend it... Also I know that was unrelated but I thought it was worth sharing.
>>
>>3164368
The one near me had a Pac-Man arcade machine, but it was just for looks.

They put it up in front in the small walkway where you pay, so you would be in everyone's way if you tried to play it.
>>
At my D&B they have a Centipede, Blood Bros. (which was weird), Galaga, Ms. Pac Man, and Crazy Taxi.
>>
No. Unless you like Flappy Bird, air hockey, and claw games.
>>
>>3164962
The sad part is that's very true... Although air hockey isn't that bad.
>>
There could be a Pac-man Battle Royale
>>
>>3164960
>Blood Bros

now how good would a saloon themed arcade be? complete with autopiano
only games allowed sunset riders, blood bros, iron horse, gun.smoke, gun frontier, boothill, cowboys of moo mesa, badlands

That's for the kids, real racers play daytona usa at DnB
>>
I live in Florida, near Orlando, and there's (perhaps the only one in Florida I know) a DnB. In terms of retro, they have a six-player Daytona USA setup, and some definitely 90's Namco strength tester game.

There's also a Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga charity arcade cab; any coins you throw into the bin count as credits; it accepts more than just quarters, too; really nifty idea.

I would have a pic related but I can't find them; when I got there, I was so excited to play Daytona, only to discover that the pedals/steering wheels were completely whacked on all six machines. Sucked so badly. It was perhaps the only game I would dump a $10 card into.
>>
>>3164734
Have you ever been there? It's in a canyon.
>>
>>3165034
> thinks Pac-man Battle Royale is retro
I can tell you've never been to D&B without your parents.
>>
The one in Albany NY has Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and I think Tetris all in a row. Also, I think one of those, maybe Tetris, also has the Mario Bros in it. Other than that, no retro. Plenty of non-ticket games though. D&B is the biggest arcade in the capital district so they were the first place to get games Mario Kart, Star Wars Battle Pod and Time Crisis 5. The games may be a tad over priced but the food is great and the drinks are priced like any other bar. I love a trip to D&B with friends, it's like adult Chuck-E-Cheese. /shill mode
>>
>>3164962
>not liking claw games

I find the claw games at my D&B to be fairly easy too. I can get something out of the little one every time I play and every 2-3 times I play the huge one.
>>
>>3166317
I know it's not retro, but it's not a bad take on a classic game.
>>
>>3164368
Dave and Busters is the chuck e cheese for manchildren. the only time its socially acceptable to go there is when your work tries to be hip and do a cringey employee party. Just go to a fucking casino OP. At least its legitimate to hit rock bottom there.
>>
>>3168545
>hitting rock bottom at a casino is more "legitmate" than having fun with friends at a slightly overpriced barcade

Pretty sure the oldest game the one near me has is a Guitar Hero 3 machine
not dissin' guitar hero
>>
There's plenty of cause to be excited if you enjoy big-screen Fruit Ninja and "economy" MAME cabs
>>
There's an arcade on Wildwood boardwalk that has some pretty good games. Guy has a good collection.
>>
I haven't been there in ages. Sadly they closed the original Dallas locations, the one near the strip clubs/warehouses was great.

Back in the golden days, they had the Namco "theater" games like Attack of Zolgear, it was great.
>>
>>3164942
Im glad you posted this. I live in Florida too but not near Miami. I hope there's some decent places in the Tampa/Sarasota area
>>
>>3168545
Playing arcade games is better than a casino. When you lose your money, at least you had fun. Casino games are not fun. The only fun thing is the possibility of winning money. Stop being such a fucking faggot. I hate idiots that have to call people who like something "manchildren" for no reason, when I am very certain we could mock you for one of your shitty hobbys you think you're so "edgy" for enjoying
>>
glad i live in vegas
there's arcades every few blocks
>>
It usually varies, many times it's the simple "Ms. Pacman, Galaga with occasional Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.", other times it's Daytona USA (Many D&B locations have this, sometimes many machines, or just 2 or 3... just make sure they're calibrated correctly). Occasionally you may (keyword, MAY) strike gold and find Virtual-On, but that's very unlikely.

>>3168545
>Calls people manchildren for going to arcades
>Cites Casinos as a good way to spend money
Gambling is about as much of a good investment as dropping your money in a wishing well. The only fun value is in visuals and the chance that you might win, however both are engineered to drain your money. At least arcade games are fun in other ways other than just purely waving a steak in front of you that you can't get.

Also you're already socially unacceptable for being here
>>
>>3164372
They have an arcade again?

D-do we have to meet and go on a date at Dave and Busters?

Wanna go see Civil War in IMAX next week?
>>
>>3164368
Prepare for ticket games, maybe Pac-Man, and a whole lot of giant versions of free cellphone games like Flappy Bird.
>>
>>3172509
This, especially at a new opening branch. There's no chance they're going to have anything properly retro.

Maybe some pinball.

It'll be like a modern US arcade, which is cellphone games for 50cents a go with kids mashing their hands and faces on the screen.

Oh, and probably like two DDR machines, and one of those reaction time games with the 50 panels to hit in 30 seconds or something.
>>
>>3172861
>It'll be like a modern US arcade, which is cellphone games
I hear this a lot on /vr/ and it's a bit of an exaggeration. Yes there are arcade versions of Flappy Bird and the like, but those are redemption games, which have been popular for a while now.
The problem with most new arcades is the only genres available being mostly gun and driving games (which aren't bad, but the lack of variety is). Dave and Busters isn't great by any means, but they do usually have games like Daytona, House of the Dead, Time Crisis, Lost World, Naomi games like Strike Fighter or F355 Challenge, they're not devoid of "anything properly retro".
>>
A D&B actually opened up near me about a month ago in Henrietta, NY. I went there a couple nights ago and was pretty impressed with the selection of games. Nothing there is older than like, six years, which impressed me evened more, though I wish there would have been more classic games. I got to play:
Luigi's Mansion Arcade
Transformers: Human Alliance
Time Crisis 5
Dome Screen Dogfight
Star Wars Battle Pod
Mario Kart Arcade GP DX (4 player)
Dark Escape 4D (didn't get to play, gotta go back)
>>
>>3173424
At least the one in Henrietta has some decent games. The D&B in Buffalo is shit and many of the games are always out of order.
>>
>>3173424
The D&B in West Nyack has 6 player Daytona and once had Silent Scope Bone-eater

>tfw that game cures your depression and then just leaves

I'm not the only one who's anti-depressant is not shit arcades, right?
>>
>>3164372
>cedar point
>arcade

This makes me want to go. Geauga Lake's arcade was small but fun. I miss it
>>
I think it really depends on how small your D&B is going to be. If it's huge, expect at least one classic (we have Pac Man and Asteroids). If it's small then it's probably not going to have anything retro.

There's two by me which is what I'm going by.

We also have a few locally owned barcades which are honestly better. The one we like downtown is free play all night. I didn't even buy a drink or pay an entry fee but still got to play. It was pretty nice. I would look those up instead if you really want some /vr/ experience. Ours even had pinball.
>>
>>3166458

I-I guess you don't wanna go on a date Albany-kun...

>>
>>3175025

>>
>>3176378
>Go to Dave and Busters for my birthday
>Walk in "So many screens and flashing lights! I love arcades! It looks like so much fun!"
>We finish eating and start looking through the games
>It's mostly phone games and those quarter munchers that hardly qualify as a game
It was still a fun time, but 80% of the machines weren't worth playing.
>>
>>3176187
It was pretty good for a modern Dave and Busters

I still miss the one time I went to a Dave and Busters back in 2004, it was not as crowded, and only a couple adults were there, and I could have sworn that there was a whole entire stage with Battletech pods, also maybe about a few ticket games, very few.

It's kinda sad how most modern D&Bs are essentially the complete opposite, with children running everywhere, but sadly D&B is pretty much the only choice for a decent arcade we have, any other arcade is just a shitty corner with redemption games, Raw Thrills shit and the mandatory Ms. Pacman/Galaga machine, or worse, nothing but crane games. At best it might have a few cool retro stuff, but then they're usually broken in some way because the employees literally don't give a shit (I went to an arcade where House of the Dead had a gun that didn't work, and Tekken 3 missing a joystick, which defeats the purpose, but then again, since the arcade is full of children, you wouldn't be able to have a decent Tekken match).
>>
>>3176187
Arcades are almost in America, anon, we're desperate.
>>
>>3176595
I would rather Round 1 bowling, they actually know their shit by having imports. Dave and Busters does sorta attempt at getting japanese games, but they don't try hard enough (usually getting shitty Holopod games that literally just a glorified shooting gallery instead of something interesting like the Gundam games, only test the fun games in about one location, which means they're set up to just fail).
>>
>>3176387
yea seriously, those people are the reason Arcades are a dying breed. Entitled faggots only want free shit instead of supporting their local businesses
>>
>>3174972

Cedar point is dope yo
>>
>>3164368

>>
>>3175025
>It was pretty nice.
>Ours even had pinball.
Yeah, and soon you'll always talk about it in past tense because you can't be arsed to pay for anything.
>>
Just to invade this thread, are there any good arcades in the Las Vegas area? I'm moving not too far and want to know what else is in the area other than the strip.
>>
>>3176839
It doesn't really help that many of the games will be crap or redemption shit though, and some times those are the only games that make money, meaning they will mostly just get the idea to get more redemption shit or just stick with Raw Thrills.

I sorta wish arcades had a suggestion box for what games people want to see next, just so they can have some kind of direction.
>>
>>3174972
>>3176841
Have to agree with ya. Easily worth the drive
on another note how the hell was cedar point allowed to buy their closest competitor
>>
>>3177224
Should probably mention that in quite a bit of the arcades, literally the only things they have are crane machines and mandatory raw thrills bullshit, since they essentially hold the monopoly. It's kinda hard to support arcades like that when they will just get the idea to continue buying Crane shit.
>>3176850
VR is a meme that gets resurrected every so often and then dies after quite a while, didn't really change anything in the 90's, and it might change a little bit now, but I still think it will just end up as being a dumb gimmick that will be left in the dust until 20 years later
>>
>>3165548

Is that one located in New York? That's pretty much all I played while over there.
>>
>>3164368
If you're lucky it'll have something like one of those multi-cabinets with a bunch of retro arcade games, but it's basically going to be cabinet versions of shit iPhone games (Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Etc.) There may be some good modern Light Gun games (Aliens/Terminator) or Mario Kart GP that would be worth playing.
>>
>>3165548

>muh mature games for mature gamers

DUDE! That play is the best arcade place you'll ever go to. I've been there quite a few times now and i always leave with a smile on my face. We chicago land area people are very lucky to have some nice arcades within the area. They have a majority of titles you'd expect and you can tell that people there love doing what they do.

There's also Level 257 at woodfield which i went to about 6 months ago and wouldn't really recommend since its a rip off like 15 dollars for 1 hr of game when that can get a day's worth over at Galloping and the pickings are slim unless you LOVE your typical namco arcade games.

Then there's Round 1 near stratford which was fun they had some import /vr/ stuff like vampire savior and gradius II which i mostly ended up spending my money on and i think the prices are fair. But this was a year ago so idk what they have now.

I haven't explored the barcades yet in chicago but i'm looking to do so now that i'm 21. But i feel like i'll be dealing with hipster more than your typical gamer.

>>

shouts to fairfield. Westport had an arcade in the 70's/80's.
My Three Son's in Norwalk has an arcade, haven't been there since I was a kid tho.
Sports Center of CT has some games. Looks like the expanded into a Chuckee Cheese sorta thing. Last time I went there they had like 6 machines (MvC2 tho)
http://www.sportscenterct.com/#!game-zone/c15wl
Smiles in Milford was great but was closed
Fun4Kids in Stamford has an arcade. I've never heard of it before, looks promising http://www.fun4kidsarcade.com/
I remember The Batting Cage on the border of Bridgeport and Fairfield having a nice arcade when I was a kid. I dunno if they still have it though.
is this chef?
>>
>>3185042
>Sports center CT
Shit is badly maintained, I always end up breaking their Wizard of Oz pinball by just playing it the way it's meant to be played, Tekken 5 has a broken joystick sometimes, Tekken 3 is missing a joystick, House of the Dead doesn't have a calibrated gun, and the rest of the games are pretty horrible, aside from their pinball machines.
>Fun4kids
The name already turned me off, and looking at the pictures, it looks like another generic dump of redemption scams and Raw Thrills crap.
>>

Thanks for the insight. I don't live in CT anymore but good to know when I go back soon.
