For some it is. For a while, that used to be true for me as well but I never got into after the spectacular, if a bit rushed, opening moments.
I'm a 1-3 + REmake kind of fan and I even got some mileage out of 4 but that is it. 3 will always be the last great RE for me.

I liked it. Until I got stuck at this bit where one was trapped on a roof and the other one was stuck downstairs. I couldn't figure it out and eventually just... gave up.

All I did in this game was stare at Claire's butt throughout. Even on PS2 it looked great (or maybe I was just a hormonal af teenager). It was so goddamn distracting.

As for the chests, in REmake playing hard, chest are indepents, what you drop in a room, won't appear in another one. For the story it was way better suited in 90's a team going to the woods/mountains to explore, get in the mansion/lab, than a shit story like 4 has where you have 10+ years later of developers scripts and technology. Sherry was a 7 year old girl who had shit parents trapped in an apocalypse city while the president's daughter is already a 20's girl and its super useless.
You know what's a fun game? Making an RE thread and making a mental bet as to whether NESfag ruins it in either the first or second reply.

You act like older games (at least RE2 and RE3 as fair as I remember) doesn't just throw ammo in your face. It doesn't fucking matter if you get your shit from enemies or from the most random places tbqh (instead of only from gun stores and dead cops like it should). You won't run out of bullets, stop being delusional.
The thing you have to understand with 4 in order to like it is that it's like an Evil Dead movie; it's just fun. Pure unadulterated fun. The other REs rely more on scares and ambient, but RE4 is just fun. I like CV's engine, but the story was a bit weak. After the first couple of hours it's just kinda boring.

CV made me realize that the series was going to tank had unless major change to the formula was made. Not saying RE4 was what I expected, but by that time Capcom's writing staff was all complete morons. CV's story was shit on par with RE5, areas were acceptable, but frozen base was a stupid idea done very bad, the whole twins should be scrapped along with intern who suggested them. RE was over after Nemesis, basically.
