It is a great game and the games that followed it have only improved on that. The fact that it isn't the pinnacle of the series is a testament to the quality of the series, not a detriment to 3. Unlike SF or KoF, which have tried a variety of gimmicks that make the "best" pretty sybjective, the latest Tekken is almost 100% going to be an improvement over the game directly before it.
The only time that can be considered iffy is Tag going into 4. Even that is debatable. Literally every other release of a Tekken game has been linear improvement without a single backwards step.

Not that poster but the only Tekken game I didn't play the absolute shit out of was 6. The rage mode mechanic turned me off and 5 was a very hard act to follow. 4 is probably the second weakest entry into the series and even that introduced as many good ideas as it did bad.
You can safely play the series in chronological order and see the steady improvements to the core mechanics of the gameplay in every game.

I've never met a single person who owned or endorsed Virtua Fighter. The only reason I know it exists is because the arcade I grew up with had a machine for it. I don't know if they are good or bad games but you can't be touchy if someone calls that obscure at this point.

I was too busy actually playing Tekken with other people for that gay shit. Bryan has high damage bread and butter combos with simple inputs. Most of his 3 and 4 hit combos have mix up options on the last hit.
Only major weakness is the triple backhand being unsafe on block if you end on RP. Other than that he has several basic combos that can knock down 30% or more, pokes, gap closers, you name it.
Maybe you should actually play with other people instead of playing Arcade mode all day and pretending tourney tiers have any actual impact on regular play.
