Have been watching a lot of MyLifeInGaming lately.

Is the Framemeister worth it? 300$ is pretty hefty, but it seems like a really great piece of equipment.
>>
not sure, I'm betting either there's going to be a replacement/upgrade soon or the ossc will knock it down
>>
>>3138672

>Paying $300 for a device that creates more input lag.
>>
>>3138712
There's barely any input lag.
>>
>>3138686
OSSC is a line doubler... and not out yet.
>>
>>3138746
I know but most hdtv's can process 480p just fine. dc looks great on my set.

alternatively use a gbs 8220, a t-slg and have a line doubler and a scanline generator for under $70
>>
>>3138758
>alternatively use a gbs 8220, a t-slg and have a line doubler and a scanline generator for under $70
That thing isn't very good.

And you assume the OSSC wont have any faults/quirks. When we know of one major one already. No sound over hdmi.
>>
If you get one, make sure to watch out for background noise in the blues and blacks. A lot of Framemeisters come shipped with this problem and it looks terrible. I unfortunately got one like this and was naive enough to think it was just how the Framemeister was, until I found forums about this issue and how it should be returned ASAP. Right now I'm waiting on the next hot ticket item to be released, no way I'm putting another $300 down on a replacement.
>>
It also has some compatibility issues, such as in sonic 2.
I run a DVDO VP30 with the additional processing card - spent $150 on it. Does the same job as the overpriced Microsoft unit with an add-on scan line generator and i also doesn't have issues with dealing in jp21 leads.
>>
>>3138862
You probably have some shit power supply you replaced it with.

There's no replacement for the Mini. They just have very slight noise that's exaggerated form shit power power supplies. Generally 3rd world users who use 240v.
>>3138868
>It also has some compatibility issues, such as in sonic 2.
It runs Sonic 2 fine.
The DVDO units aren't very good on their own. Especially for the price.
>>
>>3138767
GBS 8220 is good value though. Of course it won't satisfy perfectionist autists.
>>
>>3138894
I'd agree a few years back. With modern TVs I think you're better just feeding component in from a transcoder.
>>
>>3138712
It does the scaling instead of the TV, which can improve things a lot.
>>
>>3138897
Modern TVs actually internally scale better?

Yeah, man, the Framemeister is totally worth it. It blew me away! Just like in Persona 1 when Nanjo's butler died. I fucking cried, dude.
>>
>>3138878
I'm using the power supply that the Framemeister came packaged with, try again.
>>
>>3138906
A good one does. In my opinion. Most sets will handle 480i and especially 480p very well.

I believe that treats 240p as 480i anyway.
>>
>>3138878
Try it again on multiplayer.... Yes it does.
>>
I have a Framemeister, and my only concern is the resolution changes that some consoles like the PS1 does. It takes a couple seconds for the framemeister to figure out what is the new resolution, blue screens, then comes back. A bitch when you're trying to record. It can also make you miss the beggining of the cutscene.

How about instead of assuming a bunch of shit and arrogantly dismissing people's problem, you actually give solutions that are worth a damn.
>>
>>3138915
>>3138919
I thought it was updated? Look at the post date.
>>
>>3138921
Use a decent power supply? I don't know what to tell you?

The noise the mini has isn't anything to hate it for. Despite that it's still the best scaler out in terms of image quality for 240p. That says something.
If you're seeing excessive noise it's either power supply or the console side most likely.
>>
>>3138924
I really don't know. I know the issue was there until 2014, which is when I was in the market for a proper scaler. If they have fixed it, great.
>>
>>3138927
I'm using the power supply that came packaged with the SEALED system. Also, I live in Canada. So if it's a problem with the region, why haven't I heard Americans complaining about it?
>>
>>3138945
Maybe it's the console side then?
>>
>>3138953
all my console's have this problem. Xbox, Genesis,SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, Gamecube, NES. It had this issue from day 1.
>>
>>3138958
And?
>>
Well now that you-know-who isn't talking out of his ass anymore. Let me just say that if you get a Framemeister, even if it's brand-new, look into the blues and blacks for visible noise. If you see any noise, return it immediately. It's not just through RGB either, it can be seen through composite, component, and S-video as well, so there's no excuse not to check for this.
>>
>>3138976
You're talking out your ass man.
The "issue" you're talking about is documented.
>>
>>3138980
Yes, it's well documented and not enough people are being warned about it. Stop trying to dismiss such a huge problem, if people are putting 300 dollars down on this piece of equipment, they NEED to know this.
>>
>>3138958
Thought about checking it after a voltage stabilizer or power cleaner? Maybe your home just has noise? Does the unit come with a ground plug or no?

>>3138984
It's a slight issue at best.

This is the noise.
>>
>>3138989
Then how does one get a proper power supply for the North Americas? I'm looking this up, and this power supply issue is only addressed for the UK.
>>
>>3138997
It may not be a power supply issue.
>>
>>3139000
Wow, great help. All my troubles are magically fixed for no reason now. As soon as you said it wasn't a power supply issue, my unit started magically working, thank you so much.
>>
>>3139017
Really sorry asshole.

I don't even know what your problem is. "Noise" is a pretty generic term.
>>
>>3139034
Okay, could you at least post a link to a step down converter that would clear up issues with the power supply? can you do at least one useful thing?
>>
>>3139043
Again asshole. The problem may not be your power supply or the xrgb mini. I don't know how you're hooking anything up or what.

you will still get the flicker if it is interpreting 240p as 480i, most sets have this problem, if you can feed it 480p and up it can scale on its own just fine.

this is the Oot gamecube disk running in 480p and zoomed to get rid of pillarboxes, on a 9-10 year old lcd. looks fine but If I plug the 64 in it will be so bad it's distracting.

>>3138767
We'll have to wait and see, I use analog audio to a receiver anyways. tv audio output is poop.
>>3138767
my friend has one, it's not bad and at 328% less expensive for his setup it looks damn good and has scanlines. might go this route until something better shows up then recycle it for another project.

gbs 8220 with custom firmware from a ras pi is primo
>>
$300 is better spent on some LSD. Play SoR2 while tripping balls. You won't care about MUH GRAPHICS.
>>
>>3138672
I have one and I'll admit I love the thing to death. However if you have a CRT or are planning on getting one then get the CRT instead.
If you don't give a shit about CRT's and are content with a flat panel, then the Framemeister is a great choice.
You gotta fiddle with it a little before you can get it to your liking but it's still pretty great.

that seems a little aggressive

I just got one a couple of days ago and have been testing my various systems on it. 240p looks like it would look on a trinitron. If you want the shitty 'aged' CRT look it is not for you. The only genuine complaint I could make is the the vibrancy in just not the same. Maybe if I had a better lcd monitor idk. Also not often mentioned but if you have PAL systems (I have both) then you may run into some problems with scaling and especially scanlines.

Can anyone tell me the best settings for ps2 480i? I am using the official PS s-video cable which is the best I've got atm. Is RGB a huge step up from that? (I use RGB on all my other consoles).

>>3138862
>until I found forums about this issue and how it should be returned ASAP
can you point me to this please?
>>
>>3138894
This. I think my GBS setup was under $70. It would've been even cheaper but I wasn't able to get my scanline generator circuit working, so I ended up purchasing a T-SLG. Obviously it's not on par with the XRGB but it's better than the cheap as fuck SCART to HDMI boxes that are out there. They're also abundant and easy to get your hands on.
>>
>>3140674
>Can anyone tell me the best settings for ps2 480i?
should say 50hz pal ps2

Also try to use an original gbs 8220, I bought one from aliexpress and it had a bunch of interference no matter what I tried (different psu, ferrite choke etc)

Modern TVs interpret 240p as 480i and it looks like shit. Some modern TVs cant interpret 240p signals at all. Framemeister was specifically designed to make 240p look good on a modern TV set.
