We think 'there's no way they could be that dumb' because we had to figure out how to connect and program VCR's and perform similar tasks when we were kids. Kids don't have to do that stuff anymore. Working things out on your own is not something many kids will experience and the results are terrifying. The smartphone generation often can't grasp basic things like closing programs on a computer. For people who don't know, the asterisk is telling the disk drive "Load the first file in the directory".
