I tried out Mall of America Tycoon once.
I placed a store down, and none of the customers even registered that it was there, so they just walked through the fucking walls of the dame thing. Same goes for any attractions or carts I set down. Nothing got the guests to respond.
Since I was 12 and spent $20 on it, I took the game out of my computer, got some steel wool from the kitchen, scratched the fucker up like crazy, and snapped it in half.
I was really mad.

It's good. It's basically transport tycoon deluxe with RCT style graphics and the controls are borrowed from RCT. I would place it just under transport tycoon deluxe. I did have some trouble with the controls and apparently it has issues with 64bit windows but the game itself is solid. The soundtrack is also pretty good imo

Saving a picture like that as a JPEG tarnishes the quality A LOT for screenshots taken from RCT2. Not only this, but for some fucking reason the picture didn't fucking compress the filesize. I've barely ever seen a .jpg go above 1.5MB, let alone the 2.2MB the OP's pic is.

Reinstalled RCT 1&2 for the first time in years and even grabbed OpenRCT2. Figured I'd make a cool looking park, but I opened the game up and threw open the scenario editor and... bleh. Too much shit to sort though.

Maybe I should just play some of the RCT1 scenarios and try to make a pretty park.

Maybe I just lack inspiration.
>>

Picking scenery is a bitch. Worse if you have used a workbench flooded with custom stuff leaving no room for the useful vanilla stuff.

Yeah, I was thinking of just going NCSO. But even the I stare at an empty scenario map and just nothing comes to me.

That is why I was thinking I should just play one of the RCT1 scenarios as a starting point. Like play Bumbly Beach and make it look awesome, not just beat the scenario.

Yes, it's pretty much just the exe running in a different programming language and with added features, and it uses the original RCT2 files and content, including expansions. Just want to say that, thanks to this thread, I decided to install OpenTTD for a second time. Didn't like it back then.

question
I often hear TTD > Locomotion
but never why
So, why?
>>
>>3119335
Tell them to make a slider to adjust the speed?
>>
>>3119558
The two are quite different.

Locomotion is quite prettier, more detailed graphics than OpenTTD. But these days some people prefer the retro look of OpenTTD.

Locomotion is entirely about laying tracks for the trains, so it has better mechanics for that. But some complained that it feels too much like a puzzle, as sometimes all you do is laying tracks after tracks and nothing else.

OpenTTD got tons of mods and constant bug fixes. That's how we can have a mod entirely on everything Japan, from buildings to vehicles to trees and signal lights and etc.

Honestly both are pretty good games and not that different if you don't dig deep enough.
>>
>>3119558

Locomotion +s:

* Arguably Prettier
* CURVED TRACK (this is the big one IMO)

OpenTTD +s:

* More advanced signals/Pathing AI (Loco AI loves to get lost on semi complex track networks without extensive use of waypoints)
* Shit-Tons of mods both cosmetic and gameplay, mostly accessible and painlessly installable from an ingame browser
* Better Working Multiplayer

It works fine for me until I drag really fast and the camera flies into the void when frames drop.

I'm pretty sure the option exists to adjust speed because I think I did have that problem at first.

Kek.

How do you think the community would react/move, if he did release it? Do you think people would just try it, and then go back to OpenRCT2?

Also. not directed at anyone, but for OpenRCT2 on Linux, just copy a Windows install, and run the launcher?

Originally this was just a huge sandbox i tested coaster ideas in, but now its turning into a park i guess. Too bad the layout of the park is atrocious because i originally just dumped coasters everywhere.

IIRC, Open TTD was actually created with permission. Meanwhile Atari wouldn't let anyone touch Locomotion, so people made Open TTD and just stuck with it even after Atari went tits up.

Also, has anyone else had the dumb idea of making an OpenTTD or Locomotion map that is basically a model train set, using water for the gaps where the person would walk through?
>>
>>3120062
But what about OpenRCT2? I don't recall anyone asking Atari permission for that.
>>
>>3120084
Chris owns the rights to the games IIRC, he's just licensing rights to create new games to Atari or whoever.
>>
>>3120015
No small/flat rides in those areas?
Looking alright otherwise, even if there's a bit too many paths for my liking.
>>
>>3119964
It might be eaiser to take OpenTTD and modify it so it looks and behaves like Locomotion rather that reversing Locomotion itself
>>
>>3120135
Nah, you'd use RCT. Locomotion was made in RCT's engine.
>>
>>3120185
So if openrct2 is a game engine recreation (people call it that right?) then it should not be that hard to use a lot of the same project for locomotion I'd think.
>>
>>3120206
RCT was built on top of TTD's game engine and Locomotion was built on top of RCT(probably 2). They very likely all have a lot of common code. OpenRCT2 devs have actually borrowed the code for the dialog windows from OpenTTD so that OpenRCT2 can work on OSX and *nix also

honestly once openRCT is fully reverse engineered it might be easier to simply re-create Locomotion in the openRCT engine rather than reverse engineering Locomotion itself, considering all the common code they have.

simant was pretty good. the mob of ants could kill not only spiders, but antlions and caterpillars(which would turn into food). I conquered the house too although it took awhile. I discovered that if you go to the bottom of the nest, there are tunnels that take you to the bottom of the red ant nest - but if it's raining, it floods down there.

I still remember organizing an invasion force and the human came with the lawn mower right then and wiped almost everything I had, I had to ragequit and reload my save.

>>

From what I played, 90% of them don't. Certain building specific stuff won't build too close to coasters (like walls) but there are some pieces that are made to fit between the tracks.

The rest like loose scenery is entirely zero clearance.

There's those, but I'm also seeing:
-passing over/under paths
-passing over water
-passing over/under itself
-big starting drop
-decent max/average speed
-synchronized with the smaller coaster.

With the amount of stuff you need to do to get a decent excitement rating out of it, though, you might as well be using a train type that doesn't have high intensity the moment it goes round a corner at even mild speed.
>>
Does this game have actual good park management gameplay or is it just a fun roller coaster maker?
>>
>>3125871

RCT 1 & 2? Its generally not hard to stay solvent, but some of the scenarios can be difficult to achieve (especially the less well tested scenarios in RCT 2).

Most scenarios are stuff like "have X number of guests in the park by year Y with a park rating of Z", "have 10 coasters with excitement rating of X or more", "Have a park value of X by the end of year Z" etc etc.
