Do you import Japanese games or do youemulate
>>3105168
>paying for a 300kb file
>JP version of The Ooze
God, I remember that game being expensive back when I wanted it for some reason in 2002 or so. Looks like it still is, though I'm not seeing any sold ebay listings, just high asking prices.
>>3105168
What is this ero game?
>>3105168
Why would anyone pay for something they can't even read?
>>3105168
What's with the circles
>>3105210
>In fact, some Japanese releases are entirely in English to begin with.
List a few?
>>3105210
I wonder how many people on /vr/ can read moon. Probably less than 3% I'd reckon.
>>3105219
poinie's poin, tail of the sun, several shooting games.
>>3105173
>paying for 0s and 1s at all
>>3105219
Super Mario Bros. and Super Metroid are the exact same ROM in Japan and North America.
Is the JP version of The Ooze different from the one here?
Huh, now where have I seen this before. I wonder.
>>3105205
Often used as form of censorship, like writing F**K, but used to keep some things 'secret' too.
It shows what it is on the back of the cover though.
>>3105226
We're at least 2 people, if not 3.
Actually, I've been surprised with how many people her seem to be able to read moon. Either that, or it's one more person besides me who posts a whole lot.
>>3105168
What's up with 「18きん」in one place and then 「全年齢」in another?
Is this for 18+ only, or for all ages? I'm confuse.
>>3105316
The 18+ is crossed off. My guess is that the plain red and black cover, the fake 18+ rating, and the censor circles were done to make the game appear adult or something. But I have no idea.
>>3105268
Super Mario World (JU)
>>3105329
But sometimes they just cross over the 18+ forbidden to emphasize the "forbidden" part of it, not as an act of negation. See every other doujinshi.
>>3105314
Lots of old games are just Kana, which makes them easier for beginners and intermediates.
>>3105347
As an intermediate to advanced intermediate I find kana only more difficult to read, actually. It's one of the things putting me off famicom era RPGs, for instance.
I used to find furigana extremely annoying, too, but I've since gotten used to it to the point it doesn't slow down my reading speed that much anymore.
Speaking about reading speed, I'm still slow though, I still only read at about the speed of spoken Japanese. Games with autoscrolling text are my bane. RPGs are nice since they usually let you read at your own pace.
>>3105357
From what I've heard Kanji really helps with disambiguation once somebody knows enough words, that's why I said it's easier for beginners and not as a whole.
Japanese writing looks so aesthetic with intricate kanji contrasted with sharp katakana that it makes me want to learn it, but it's even harder than Mandarin (perhaps Modern Standard Arabic too but I don't have enough info to know for sure.)
>>3105375
yeah, the disambiguation is what kanji is all about.
also you need to learn way more kanji for mandarin, than for Japanese.
I guess the irregular readings might be trickier in Japanese though, but that's where furigana actually helps and many games (not many retro ones, unfortunately) will put in the occasional furigana for you when the reading is irregular.
I've noticed FF VI (playing recently) spells out a lot of trickier words in all Katakana though, probably something to do with limited amounts of characters too I bet.
>>3105268
Makes me wanna sell my US Super Metroid and get a JP copy in the box
>>3105357
あなた
ゆうれいは いると おもう?
>>3105314
I guess /vr/ attracts older people who've had time to learn.
>>3105406
Fuck, man I need to get of my ass and take that test this year. I dunno what level I should aim for though.
>>3105394
ないない、そんなもんただの迷信だよ
>>3105379
It's 25% more, but each character has only one reading while Japanese can have several.
Import
Is this a trusted site? http://www.japangamestock.com/videogames,jeuxvideos,import,43.html
I've only ever imported once and have been thinking of buying some famicom games.
>>3105852
Yeah they're legit. I've bought lots of stuff from them.
They also have a thing where if you buy 3 loose games you get the 4th one free.
>>3105858
Prices seem somewhat better then ebay so I was interested, thanks anon.
>>3105314
There was a thread about dating sims that had like 5 different literate posters
>>3105870
The weird thing with a lot of these Jap stores is they'll have an ebay store too, JGS has one too I believe, but the prices on their ebay site are usually terrible.
I don't buy a lot of games now, I either pirate or emulate but when I was buying a lot I always imported.
Way cheaper and I prefer playing in the original language. Seriously, boxed OOT with manuals and everything for like 20 bucks. How cool is that?
>>3105205
The season isautumn, speaking ofautumn, mountainscome to mind.
But there's nomoneyto go tothe mountains...
But since it'sautumnI want tocreatesomememories.FollowingTrends isstupid,

I've got it. The Oooze!
>>3105841
Can't see shit, cap'n
>>3105168
Import. I have a pile of ps1 dating sims right next to me.
>>3106656
Which ones?
>>3105168
emulating the translated secret of mana 2 at the mo
>>3105168
They aren't mutually exclusive.
>>3106531
Bloody hell you're not kidding. I did a shit job of that.
Let me try again.
>>3106752
I want to try Crime Crackers.
and here's the boxed famicom games
from left to right
Donkey Kong Jr.
Boulder Dash
Exerion
Adventure Island
Hydlide Special
Fuzzical Fighter
Gorby no Pipeline
Yoshi's Cookie
Tetris 2 + Bombliss
Parodius
Klax
Astrofang
Kirby's Adventure
Highway Star
Exed Exes
Side Pocket
Hydlide 3
Super Xevious
Dragon Slayer 4
Ninja Jajamaru: Ginga Daisakusen
Minelvaton Saga
Genghis Khan
incidentally I'd love to see everyone else's import collections too
For DC, Saturn, and PS1, I buy them.
For Genesis (and soon TG-16), I use an Everdrive.
For everything else, I just emulate.
>>3106762
>I'd love to see everyone else's import collections
>>3106798
>>3105168
I have a bunch of SFC games just because you can often get them cheaper online than their American counterparts.
>idiots want to charge $40 for Super Metroid on ebay
>got it bundled with Super R-Type for $20
>SFC version is literally the exact same game, it's even in english
>>3106657
Maboroshi Tsukiyo, Emmyrea, Memories Off, Flamberge no Seirei, Kisetsu wo Dakishimete, and I also have a few regular ADVs: Double Cast, Sampaguita, and Kuon no Kizuna.
>>3106762
>>3106820
Oh heh I have around half of those in >>3106798
& >>3106804
Well, Saturn versions of the PCFX games.
I fell hard for Maria in Sanpaguita and bought that collector's disc in the photo to the right of the yarudrama games.
>>3106820
That's impressive. I was expecting Tokimeki memorial or something more known. How do they play?
>>3105375
Arabic is hideous though. The way the writing looks so unstructured - they see a bit of empty space and just stick some squiggles there. I don't think I'd want to learn the method behind that madness.
>>3105168
I buy game cases, take off my pants, rub my penis all over them, and send the pics to Kotaku.
>>3107047
It's exclusively written in cursive. You're probably thinking of some crazy-ass calligraphy like on the Saudi flag.
>>3106921
Haven't gone through them yet, unfortunately I forgot that I need a ps1 memory card for ps1 games in the ps2, so I need to get one of those first.
>>3105168
I would import but I'm too cheap. also the new page layout is weird, it's all grey and white now and looks tumblr-ey... am I the only one seeing this? I dont like it.
>>3109559
Importing is pretty cheap if you use yahoo auctions.
