Sonic Adventure is better on the Dreamcast.

This is the only conclusion I can come up with as to why everyone hates SA but not SA2.

SA2 has all the same flaws as SA. However, perhaps my view is distorted because I only play the Dreamcast version rather than any other version that followed.

Can someone vouch for this? I imagine the majority of people who hate SA, played SA2 first and then went back to the first game on a non-Sega system.

This was also apparent with Super Mario Galaxy. I know plenty of people who can't get into Super Mario Galaxy 1 after playing its superior sequel. I'm one of these people since I played 2 first.

What do you make of it?
>>
There isn't all that many differences between versions.

Also, pretty sure a lot of people just hate 3D sanic in general.

>This is the only conclusion I can come up with as to why everyone hates SA but not SA2.

SA1 has Big the Cat as a mandatory story, and doesn't tell you where to go you have to run around on the overworld for fucking ages.

SA2 is more straightforward and action packed. It's biggest problems are the Knuckles levels being too big of a pace breakers, and that the story makes nonsensical jumps all the time.

Both of them suck due to the godawful controls, camera, and collision detection.

The post.

>as to why everyone hates SA but not SA2
People hate SA2 a lot more than SA1, whatever the horrendous YouTube reasoning behind it may be.
>SA2 has all the same flaws as SA
SA1's flaws, besides Amy and Big being shit, all come from a lack of polish. SA2's issues come from bad design choices.

Also, yes, Sonic Adventure is miles better on the Dreamcast.

>doesn't tell you where to go you have to run around on the overworld for fucking ages
You see that floating ball of orange light? That's Tikal, you fucking retard. She'll tell you exactly where to go at any given time. Stop pinning your own stupidity on the game like the moron you are.
>godawful controls
Are you fucking serious? SA1's controls are god-tier, and SA2's controls, while they aren't as good, are still fine.
>>
>>3094705
Shit smells slightly better when you eat vegetables. It's still shit though.
>>
>>3094705
Western SA1 on Dreamcast had bug fixes not available on the GC or Japanese versions. So yeah it's a slightly better experience.
>>
>>3094746
This is the generation that will take our place, /vr/. Kids that actually get fucking lost. In Sonic. Fucking. Adventure. The future of humanity is fucked.
>>
>>3096016
The game does a bad job of telling you where to go next to advance the plot, not like the maps are confusing or anything.
>>
I've only played the GC versions of both. Are the Steam versions worth it?
>>
>>3096039
No, they are the same GC ports with better textures.
>>
>>3094705
I actually only played SA1 completely and just a bit of 2. I even liked the Amy and Bigs stories and put SA1 as a pretty good 3D sonic game. I only didn't like SA2 for the story so I dropped it. Oh well.

>I came back to it after 15 years and expected it to have the sensibilities of modern video games.

I mean, every cut scene would tell you roughly which hub/area to go to next and even then every hub has a point that will tell you exactly where to go. The only thing you really need is a bit of curiosity to see what the glowing ball does.

15 minutes wasted exploring is only a pain when you're recording a video or streaming. Don't just parrot people who do that.
>>
>>3096062
Fair enough it's only a minor complaint, not game breaking or anything. In my opinion the hub is not even necessary.
>>
>>3096069
Yeah, I figured the ideas behind the hub were to have exploration based levels. Though a lot of the end up being boring besides the jungle. Which has the most hidden stuff in it so exploration is both needed and rewarding. They did end up creating some good exploration levels though with knuckles story and the casino.

Which leaves the hubs in a strange limbo where it's main use is for things that would be weird to do inside a full fledged level. I do like that they let you run around and get some context for where everything is though.
>>
>>3094705
I hate SA and SA2 they are both garbage.
>>
>>3096078
k.
>>
>>3096016
Things these days are pretty pathetic. Rather than explore on their own when they don't know where to go next in a game, people immediately resort to walkthroughs. So many people just have no patience or sense of adventure/exploration.
>>
>>3094705
I don't even understand the hype for SA2 anyway as much of the game was a goddamn chore to go through.
>>
>>3094705
My personal opinion is that the dreamcast stick is better for the game, it is a very taught stick and the game feels quite loose without it. In sa2 for instance you make big sweeping movements between homing onto an enemy chain in the air, on the dreamcast stick there is a slight delay as you swith your position, comparitively the gamecube stick is a fraction quicker and you end up missing the target.
>>
>>3096083
it's 2016 not 1989. People literally have no time.
>>
not retro

>>
SA was clearly trying with elements like the overworld hub, and interesting level designs that tried to match the old games.

2 is almost fucking grimdark with an awful new set of characters that nobody wanted, doubling up on all of the painful mission types people hated like searching for emeralds, and turning the mildly enjoyable E-102 levels into the terrible Tails and Robotnik ones.

People like to shit on the Big the Cat missions, but they added a bit of levity to the game by trying something new.
>>
What's everybody's problem with Big's story? You can complete it in 40 minutes or even less. And it's not like his gameplay is terrible. Slow and chilly fishing is pretty refreshing after all those action levels.
Now, Amy and her fucking hammer are the travesty.
>>
>>3096327
If I wanted slow and chill fishing I'd play Breath of Fire 4.

"miles" better?
Explain.

not a lot of people know the differences between sa1 dreamcast and gamecube.
gc version is based on the original jap version of sa1 dc, so it ends up having more glitches than usa and international dc version.
gc version was bumped up to 60 fps but the game can't handle it and dips often.
gc version removed some graphical effects during the porting process. check out the water level when landing after the whale chase.
gc version uses sa2 chao system instead of sa1. sa1 chao were super talkative and races had insane speed.

personally i'm not a fan of the new shiny models. sonic's head became an oval and just looks awkward.
and it feels like they threw in the gamegear games to distract everyone from the overall average port.

sa2b gc however is insanely better than dc version, to the point that it shows sonic team clearly cared a lot more.

The controls and graphics aren't shit, and it's not as glitchy.
