I like recommending what I think are little played but great games. And I find it fun when a person is looking for something new to play to find what kinds of games they like and recommend some.
I'll happily take that over the weekly Final Fantasy Sucks and Castlevania Fight threads. Which is why I don't click on those anymore and am happier for it.

Most "obscure" retro games on the internet are circle jerked beyond belief on either this board or anywhere else on the internet. Kinda begin to swing away from underrated a lot because of that.

I'm sure kids getting into the retrogaming fad might "discover" games like Sylphia or Rent-a-Hero, but they have been unearthed by oldfags like me who have been into retrogaming since before it was called "retrogaming."

What does that matter though? No way you were the first person on earth to discover how cool Sylphia is. But that doesn't matter, what matters is that you didn't know about it.
That's what a hidden gem is, it's just one of those games that most people look over because it's not super popular and not everyone's cup of tea. But practically every game, even the weird seemingly crappy ones are someone's near perfect cup of tea.
