No, I mean Amnesia. Doubles your Special, meaning you do double damage and take half from special attacks, all in just one turn. Although Sleep was excellent in gen I, Hypnosis still failed almost half the time. Besides, Mewtwo couldn't learn it.

There was one ghost-type move that did formula damage, and that was lick, and it was damn near useless. Nightshade did fixed damage based on level.
Also, Dragon was weak to Dragon, there was ONE Dragon attack, and it did, guess what, fixed damage.

Well yes , the good thing about Nidoking is that you could easily teach him moves that would super effective almost any type. Back in the gameboy games this was a crucial point. Add this to the fact that he's a pretty tough guy in general for the 1st / 2nd gen and you have a top-tier Pokémon to use in your main team.

Jolteon Pin Missile (5 hits) vs. Alakazam: 135-160 (43.1 - 51.1%) -- approx. 1% chance to 2HKO
That's the very best case scenario. Now remember that Pin Missile will usually hit only 3 times:
Jolteon Pin Missile (3 hits) vs. Alakazam: 81-96 (25.8 - 30.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
On the other hand...
Alakazam Psychic vs. Jolteon: 114-135 (34.2 - 40.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Alakazam also has Recover, by the way, as well as Reflect - Reflect will halve Pin Missile's damage even further, while Recover keeps it healthy. Unless Jolteon gets lucky with paralysis a few times, Alakazam's gonna win this. Also, Psychic has 33% chance of reducing Jolteon's Special stat, potentially turning that 3HKO into a 2HKO.
Pin Missile is situational against anything except Exeggutor.

Son, you have to train someone AS a mime for a ton of levels to have stats that even near Orlandu's, THEN teach them Calculation to give them damage and utility. Orlandu comes fresh out of the box with ridiculous stats and LITERALLY the best class in the game. Until War of the Lions, you couldn't even BE that class, and even then, only with Ramza. This is WITHOUT Exaclibur, which has its own high attack and a permanent haste.

He's basically Ramza' Super Squire class with All Swordskill. THAT is why Orlandu is so good.
