What are some good wild west retro games that involve cowboys/shootouts/saloons etc.
Also...What was the '80s arcade game where you play as a cowboy on a horse with an octagonal dial gun control, and you have to ride along the side of a train and shoot bad guys? Holy shit that was a fun game.
ITT some cowboy shit! Hee-Haw!
OP here...can't say I did not contribute.
How about some atari 2600 Outlaw?

Man this is one of the few "rare" SNES games i would love to own.
No actual cowboys featured in gameplay, but the game itself is most definitely western themed. I mean, your craft is a pistol with wings!

If you literally google "Western video games" you get a very accurate (albeit short, there aren't many westerns) list of the available games.
Since you require spoonfeeding:
>NES
>Gunsmoke
>Cowboy Kid
>The Lone Ranger
>Whomp Em (more indians than cowboys)
>SNES
>Sunset Riders (arcade version slightly better, good port though)
>Ganpuru Gunman's Proof
>Wild Guns
>Tinstar
Then theres stuff that's kind of spotty like Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman having a japanese/western mashup.
That's all I'm really aware of as far as retro. In terms of not retro
>GUN Xbox/360/PS2/GC/PC
>Red Dead Revolver PS2/Xbox
>Red Dead Redemption PS3/360
>Call of Juarez 360
>Samurai Western PS2(definitely kill a lot of Cowboys in this one)
I would strongly recommend GUN. It's short and sweet, but it's really fun and enjoyable, it's cheap as dirt on steam iirc.
Best ones as far as I'm concerned:
>GUN
>Sunset Riders
>Red Dead Redemption

Wild Gunman nes
Wild Gunman FC
There are some decent Lucky Luke games, like pic related or the SNES game.

But I think the most interesting is Western Fever for the PC. It's a shooting gallery game and looks surprisingly good. I also had no problems getting it to run on my PC.

And they always sound surprsingly good.

Buster Busts Loose has a western level
Outlaws.
Redneck Rampage Rides Again in Arkansas has a few levels that feel very "cow-boy ish".

Wild West Guns on Wiiware is TONS of fun. Arcade "rail"shooters with a fun scoring system.
OP here...nice picks!
A bunch of stuff here I have not seen before.
BTW I found the arcade game I was describing in the initial post:
"Wild Western" (Taito)
This is a super fun shooter.
The rotary dial for aim/shoot really set it apart.

This is why I love well-done 8-bit graphics.
That's the best box cover art in this genre!

Here' a short vid of Wild Western gameplay if anyone is curious.

Was going to post this. Still have that one sitting here. Pretty good game too.
It's $6 on gog including the expansion.
This thread made me watch The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Just finished it.
Live-a-Live has a western chapter.

That is some kick-ass vidya-game music!
Now I need to actually play this game.
>>3076462
The best part is that the final boss is a one-on-one duel with only 6 bullets.
Beware though, it's a hard game.
Gun Smoke.

>What are some good wild west retro games that involve cowboys/shootouts/saloons etc.
it's not really retro, but westerado is fucking awesome and anyone who says otherwise should be removed from the gene pool
Aren't many *good* western games in the olden days, I'm affraud
>>3076908
Looks like Lone Ranger (great NES game)
>>3076914
the gun cyllinder on the screen is a deliberate homage no doubt, plays more like zelda crossed with RDR/GUN though

Wanted
Fuckin' sweet ass Light Phaser game on the Master System. Learn how to be a real cowboy with this game, nigga.
>>3076931
I had as much fun watching this trainwreck as I would actually playing a goog game.
Watching this video is funnier than anyone on twitch who is trying to be funny.
The music is the worst I've ever heard.
This anon gets it! Good call.
>>3076931
This game is so insanely bad that the video is strangely interesting to watch.
I have no musical experience but I could have come up with better music for this game.
For all the wrong reasons, good pick anon.
>>3076931
Oh hai BAR-tender.
>>3074959
This game is so cool and intense but it's way too hard for me to play.
>>3075040
>Red Dead Redemption
Fuck, I wish they would port it on PC so I could mod it to have more period correct weapons, you NEVER see cap & ball revolvers in vidya, when it was a very standard type of weapon of the Wild West
>>3077809
That would be pretty sweet...
the duels could be with the player's choice of dueling pistols.
Some of those 19th century guns look so badass.
Law of the West on Commodore 64.
>>3078075
Also this:
>>3078075
good old C64 days, where you could make a game about some schmuck mowing his lawn (from your bedroom naturally) and people would play it and call it brilliant
>>3074937
>>3074942
Got me thinking about Boot Hill, which I thing is older than this.
>>3080413
Wow good call, I forgot about Boot Hill...yeah, we are going way back now.
I just looked it up:
Outlaw (Atari) 1976
Boot Hill (Midway) 1977
But...Boot Hill is based on a game from 1975 called Gun Fight, or Western Gun.
Best Western theme retro game I can think of. Had awesome music they've used from the Good Bad and Ugly. as OP's pic related.>>3074937
I had so much fun with this.
>>3081661
OP here
Good pick up!
Now I need to rummage through some boxes in the garage and find this.

Watch out for mad........dog
>>3077809
What's incorrect with RDR weapons? If there's something the first ones are too old for that time.
