thinking of buying a commadore 64 is it worth it new to the console
>>
>home computer
>console
Pick one. You already proved that you're too dumb to do the thing you propose to do.

Also it doesn't seem like you tried any C64 games on emulation to see if you like them before spending money on...yeah.
>>
>>3070726
i played some on the wii virtual console service
>>
>>3070732
What are you looking to do with it, just play games?
>>
>>3070746
ya
>>
>Wii VC Service

For better results, download you some VICE and visit Gamebase 64. Also again, a computer is not a console and generally will not have the same types of games you'd find on a NES or something.

Are you a bad enough dude to play primitive 80s CRPGs, text adventures, and Microprose sims off of incredibly slow floppy disks? If not, C64 gaming is not for you.

If you ever do buy a real machine, get one of these for storage.

>a computer is not a console
The very DEFINITION of the word "console" is "a physical device to operate a computer", you clueless retard. Are you actually so dumb that you don't realize that gaming systems are just specialized computers?
>>
>>3070757
>Are you actually so dumb that you don't realize that gaming systems are just specialized computers?

Yes but if you want to argue technicalities, a console is still not the same thing as a computer, it serves a different purpose, it lends itself to different sorts of games, and it does not appeal to the same market.
>>
I will warn you. This thread may be flooded with Yuropoors trying to advertise their gargle music shmups. Hide and ignore those posts if you see them.
>>
>>3070749
But you're wrong, there were lots of good action-y games on the C64 if not lots of action-y games in general on the C64.

>Nebulus

I've never even seen a NES game do these kinds of effects and the NES has similar tile-based graphics.
>>
>>3070771
These are all Eurogames ofc so many of them will probably not run on NTSC assuming OP is American.
>>
Generally, avoid C64 arcade ports as most of them suck (notable exceptions - Commando and 1942 which kick the stuffing out of the Famicom ports)
>>
>>3070772
TLN almost seems more like a tech demo than a good game.
>>
>>3070769
>gargle music
Hah, I've been wondering what to call that stuff. It all sounds the samel; reminds me of those Atari ST demos, though I guess I have the order backwards.
They like posting those Gameboy games with that same sound too.

Kirby's Adventure has that same rotating "3d" tower effect.
>>
I always felt that the demo scene was a cancer because a lot of Yurogames are tech demos posing as a game (generic shmup which is really a vehicle for some cool SID tune they wrote). It does seem to me that American devs were more interested in actual, professionally-made games instead of tech demos.
>>
>>3071643
Uh huh. And it seems very probable that the Kirby devs stole that from Nebulus, or more accurately its Famicom port (Kyoro Chan Land)
>>
>>3071660
Maybe. I don't really care where they got the idea, I'm just pointing out that the NES did have effects like that.
>>
>>3070746
>>3070747
Home computers were about more than gaming though, they were about hacking, programming, going online, applications software, etc.
>>
>>3071676
>>3070746
this nigga just called a home computer a console and you expect him to do any of that
>>
>>3071686
We already established that OP is dumb as dirt. Not in the least because he cannot into caps and punctuation.
>>
>>3070769
You should check out Sidewinder. It's a true classic of the home computing era.

How could you miss Turrican? But hey, big plus for Exile.

>>3070778
It got ported to the NES and Game Boy.

And it definitely got the best versions amongs the 8-bit home computers, often times even better than the Amiga/Atari ST versions.

Most of the Atarisoft stuff from 83-84 was meh, but it was early and they didn't know how to get the most out of the hardware yet. Later C64 arcade ports were almost entirely European-developed. Some are fantastic, others like Bubble Bobble and New Zealand Story can't cut the mustard.

And although the NES generally had better arcade ports (as slightly newer hardware more explicitly designed for arcade games), it also had some amazing duds like 1942.

vs

The NES port is embarrassing. C64 version of 1942 blows it away in terms of sound and fluidity of the animation, especially considering it has a slower CPU.
>>
>>3070720
a C64 is worth every penny but please don't call it a console.
>>
>>3070720
If you can't even spell the name of the system right, you don't deserve to own one.

That's a PAL model in the pic. I know it from the size of the border area.

the c64 in present day is only good for the games now, that's all anyone gets them for.
