>>

>>3062054
Because of translation issues M.Bison, Vega, and Balrog all have different names between the US and Japanese version, for example in the US version the character named Balrog is named M.Bison in the Japanese version. Because of this the character are instead refered to as their basic trait(Vega-claw, M.Bison-dictator, Balrog-boxer) so that confusion as to who is being refered to is avoided.

>>3063826
It's actually because they didn't want to get sued. It worked out in our favor, though. Bison is fitting for a dictator. Balrog sounds like burly ass dude who can punch your eyeballs through the back of your skull. And Vega has a bit of elegance about it, which is perfect for his arrogant ass.

While we're at it, Akuma was born out of Rumors that Sheng Long was an actual character.

No. That is wrong. I've been using 4chan since I was underage b& in 2005. I remember when /r9k/ was created. It was a completely different place. It was an original content factory and not the echo chamber of self-loathing and hatred for people who aren't socially inept that it is now. All that board does is promote hatred and glorify being a worthless human being. I don't see why anybody would want that ideology to spill over to the rest of the site.

I remember when reddit was created too, and guess what? I've still never been there. You can keep telling me to go back there all you want, though.

None of 4chan was ever good. But saying the current /r9k/ mindset is "part of 4chan" is objectively wrong. I've been on 4chan since 2004ish and that shit didn't really get bad until after the stormfront raids brought in a bunch of them who stayed.

Old 4cahn was certainly a lot of sexually frustrated virgins, but it was a lot more gay than misogynist. My best friend met one of his long term boyfriends in a /b/ thread of all places back then.

It is weird to think though that when I first came here I was just a pervert virgin looking for hentai and now I'm literally married with children.

I don't know about that. 4chan has definitely received a lot more exposure (and therefore more users) than it had prior to 2007. More users means more regular people coming in from mainstream sites. As a result 4chan changed, but I don't think it has a lot to do with the OG user base changing.

I guess I don't recall actively hating on normies during the pre-2007 times, more just people dicking around on the Internet in whatever ways seemed most amusing. It was assumed that the vast majority of us 4chan posters weren't the most "normal" of people and were more likely than not outcasts out in the real world. Today, though, 4chan just feels like any other site, populated by the same variety of people you find posting jokes on Facebook.

Exactly this.

Old 4chan (2006 and before) felt like some cool secret place, we were all assumed to be kinda screwed up by being here, it didn't matter if you were a normie or a NEET shutin, we were all anons regardless.

2007-2008 started the distinction between gaiafags/summerfags and oldfags, and the website started becoming more mainstream

By now it's a shadow of its former self, a mainstream site pretending to be edgy. The NEET vs normie thing is very recent, probably a result of that. In the old days you could find anons in law enforcement, garbage collectors, corporate offices, having anons hidden in the real world was seen as something cool, not negative. The site didn't take itself so seriously either.

If you ask me, it was the Chanology bullshit that ruined this site. Gaia too.

But mostly Chanology. A flood of underage kids taking the memes here too seriously and thinking using a script or recording a video with deformed speech made them hackers. It was too cringeworthy to see, I had to leave the site for good until 2014.
>>
>>3064389
You're saying "Bison" wrong. It's not pronounced "beeson" in any language.
>>
>>3068817
>Gaia too.

It was the raids that really did it. That's where the Gaia people came from in the first place. Enough dickbags got in their head how fun it was to raid other websites for epic lols.

But no matter what, they always figured out it was 4chan in the end and it brought people wanting to "raid" here and then eventually became permanent members.

That's how we got stuck with /pol/. Retards thinking raiding Stormfront was so hilarious. But then they found this place and figured out this is one of the few places left where they can troll endlessly and make Hilter look like a SJW pansy. At least they have a containment board, but it still sucks.

All that said, despite how much it's changed and lost so much of what I once loved about it even now I think it's one of the best places around. No where else reminds me of the way the internet used to be back in it's early wild days that 4chan does.

>>
>>3069596

Why do people get mad? People can pronounce things however they like! No reason to be angry. :-)
>>
>>3069601
Because it's /vr/. A lot of people seemingly come here just so they can vent their rage. I don't think it even has much to do with how people pronounce, they just want to fight. Which is what makes it funny to poke them, but it's still a little weird the things they'll latch on to and get upset over.

You're seriously on the retro board suprised that you'll find people older than 30? Fuck I'm near 40 and been here since the begining.
I mainly come here cuz I wanna talk with the old octogenarians.

For some of us we came over from SA where you had to be 18 or steal moms credit card to post even in 04.

How is /pol/ bad?
>>
>>3068872
Actually, I`m no /pol/ack, but where did the myth about /pol/sters being stormfags come from? Doesn`t make sense.
>>
>>3079683
Because faggots from that containment board like to shitpost on completely unrelated topics.
>>
>>3079692
Like? Also, I don`t think it`s a containment board. Remember /new/?
>>
>>3079691
Maybe it's the whole hate Jews and praise Hitler thing.
>>
>>3079702
I saw some people there attack stormfront for being a bunch of fags. I think the praise Hitler stuff is a joke. Why would south americans and asians go there then? And then they prasied Ben Shapiro? No sense.

At 30 I never thought I would be either. But then somewhere along the line I realized there was no one else I wanted to spend my life with more.
>>
>>3070957
Actually yes it does.
That's why many books, comics and games have these disclaimers in the beginning that say the characters and stories are completely fictional.
If you use an exact copy of a real person, you'll need their permission (license, royalties, blabla). If you do it without permission, your depiction can be seen as license violation, violation of privacy or difamy. Shit is sue-able. If your character just looks like a real person, you are in the green. It's your artistic choice to design what you like. If you name that character unmistakably after a real person, you are steeling his identity rights blabla.

I always say "Snezzz", never Ess En Ee Ess.
>>
>>3081261
Are you Australian?
>>

German. It's either Snezz or Supah Nintendoh.
(also, German's another language where Bison is pronounced Beeson, and was in the animated movie dub. SF2V however aired in the early nineties in japanese with subtitles.)

Do people really say ess en ee ess instead fo just snes? I can't imagine a language were " snes" is an unpronounceable word.
>>
>>3081286
I just call it the Super Nintendo. It takes less effort than sounding out each letter.
>>
>>3081286
I wouldn't know. I find Ess En Ee Ess cumbersome to say too, compared to Snezz.
>>
Why would you guys pronounce it with a Z sound? It should be Sness

Look at some SNES commercials. Super N-E-S was an accepted pronunciation and S-N-E-S is just a shortened form of that. I don't recall hearing Sness at all as a kid. Is Sness a British thing, maybe?

The types of people associated with /pol/ mostly showed up after the stormfront raids. Before that 4chan wasn't "liberal" exactly, but there was a general air that we were all freaks of some fashion and no one really cared about the details.

The stormfront raids didn't just bring the racists to the table, it also brought a lot of the homo-hate, conservative christians, anti trans people and stuff like that. The earlier raids on Gaia and Habbo mostly brought idiot kids who either left or just became part of the woodwork. But it was the Stormfront and related ones that brought a large number of people who changed the overall culture of the board.

This is what you get for being a meme shitposter.
>>

>/b/ destroyed /a/nime

Is that really what you got from that? lol
>>
>>3082781
I'd argue that the time of the Habbo raids in 2006 started 4chan's decline. I'm in no way referring to politics, just that post 2006 /b seemed to be the start of an uptick in traffic and as a result more "outsiders."
>>
>>3082876
Definitely. It was the raids in general that took 4chan from a random hole in the internet to a place people flocked to.
>>
>>3082883
There's also the issue that 4chan has a reputation as "THE DARKEST PLACE ON THE INTERNEEEEEET", when in truth it's just a place to anonymously discuss hobbies and interests without heavy-handed moderation. The alleged reputation causes a spiral where assholes show up, act like assholes, more assholes show up, see the other assholes, start acting like assholes, and so on.

Combine this with secret club mentality, things get rotten really fast, and countless people on 4chan do things purely because other people do it without knowing why. There's a story about this exact phenomena involving monkeys.

http://johnstepper.com/2013/10/26/the-five-monkeys-experiment-with-a-new-lesson/

Hell, remember when /a/ shat up /q/ constantly every time someone even mentioned Naruto? I wonder how many of them had been here for not even a year.
>>
>>3082909
>There's also the issue that 4chan has a reputation as "THE DARKEST PLACE ON THE INTERNEEEEEET",

That's what I'm talking about, the raids are a lot of what gave it that reputation which in turn attracted people looking for an outlet like that.

But unfortunately the two go hand in hand. It's the anonymous nature of the board that promotes more authentic discussion, but it also opens things up for people who want to use it as an excuse to be inflammatory.

4chan has always been inflammatory, but no one took it seriously. It was more in the name of dicking around and having fun. The WE DO NOT FORGIVE WE DO NOT FORGET thing was tongue in cheek but new people took it seriously.

It's sure not helping the problem.

Just today I went onto a board for an active game and on the front page was a thread about someone leaving with dozens of replies of
>Please no ;.;
>I'll miss you
>don't leave us! D:
>Come baaaaack

It's fucking juvenile horseshit and none of it was about the game at all.
