I just don't get what /a/ sees in modern anime. 80s anime and 90s anime to a lesser extent was so beautifully detailed. Why and when did animators decide to become so lazy when animating? Modern anime (not all of it, mostly just the popular stuff) puts as little detail into it as possible
>>3050923
>Why and when did animators decide to become so lazy when animating?
Uh this new thing called the market crash.
Really they're not doing this shit because they're uncreative or just to be dicks. The 80s and 90s where an economic boom for them and that quickly faded.
>>3050923
>>3050931
It's not just that the economy was strong in Japan. These OVAs are a labour of love. Especially Dragon's Heaven. The video is 40 minutes long, but only half of the time is spend on the actual anime, the other is basically a making of. The really wanted to make a mecha anime in the style of Arzach.
And let's not kid ourselves, most normal TV shows didn't look this good. You know why Hayao Miyazaki called his studio Ghibli, after a wind? Because he wanted to blow a new wind into the anime industry. He wasn't happy with it, in 1985.
And do you know why Hideaki Anno made Neon Genesis Evangelion? Because he wasn't happy with the aime industry, in 1995.
My favorite decade were the 2000s.
ok can i have these games
>>3050021
What is this from?
>>3050982
>It's not just that the economy was strong in Japan. These OVAs are a labour of love.
Cause and effect.
The only reason every animator worth is salt was given the chance to make their dream project WAS because the economy was so strong.
Studios had money to burn on big name and talented animators and could afford to take more risks.
So when someone comes up to a studio and says I want to make a 6 episode sci fi OVA based on a live action monster movie the execs are all "okay here's a check"

It definitely was a good time. Too bad the anime wasn't as great as the movies.
>>3052183
>Too bad the anime wasn't as great as the movies.
Eh I think I liked the anime better overall. The second movie wasn't near as good as the first and I like seeing the more alien setting of the planet Myce and it nice getting a more Iria focused story than wacky electricians. Not that I didn't enjoy the wacky electricians
love that Keita Amemiya design stuff though

>>3052212
The anime felt like a very average scifi story while the movies were a weird mix. We had a JapaneseTerminator, fighting a kung-fu Ripley who gets support from Tahei and Matashichi. It varies between action, horror and comedy, which makes for a really entertaining mix.
>love that Keita Amemiya design stuff though
But I really liked seeing the worlds and technology in the anime.
Wish he had worked on more games.
>>3054846
>The anime felt like a very average scifi story
I don't disagree but's the whole "instead of doing something original do something right" thing. And this was like 1994 so the things it did weren't quite played out yet. And Ill admit I have a certain nostalgic fondness for it as my first "REAL" anime back when it aired on SciFi Channel
>It varies between action, horror and comedy, which makes for a really entertaining mix.
It was a fun movie. Pretty good suit work and effects too.

I really love those guys. I was always happy when I saw the older one in the Gamera trilogy.
But yeah, the second one isn't as good, but I still like it. The scene where they finally meet up again is rather sweet and well done.
I approve of this fad. What killed it off? Modern day political correctness?
>>3061636
no? It just kind of stopped. It was long before SJW PC bologna even became an idea so I have no idea really.
It still continued into the PS2 era somewhat
>>3062569
Uhn, like, probably the implications of killing women off for the evil patriarchal gaze had something to like, um, do with it?
>>3062573
How are you killing women off when you are the women?
>>3062573
No, if anything it should be more prevalent now then ever since it depicts women as strong and independent. I really can't think of many modern examples though, so something must have changed. Let's not get into that though, I just foresee this whole thread getting a MUH SJWs derailment when I just want to see some girls with fucking guns.
>>3062591
Umm, hellooo? If boys are the primary demographic then It's a male power fantasy.
>>3062602

>>3048363
Just pray that she's unlockable in the RE2 remake. If not, maybe just her costume for Claire.
>>3063870
>>3064246
Right now I'm just praying that the Team IGAS-recreation of the prototype gets released some day. It may not represent the wholly accurate Capcom's vision of the game, but it'll nevertheless be the only chance to complete a full game with Elza. Capcom themselves are unlikely to ever again acknowledge that she even exists, making a REmake 2 cameo unlikely.
>>3061636
Female main characters don't poll well with "Core demographics" (12 year old boys) who think girls are gross. And their moms likely won't buy them games with PAIN HELLBITCH, DOMINATRIX WARLORD on the cover.
Additionally as gamers from the 80s and 90s grew up, I'd bet a lot of them started viewing it as being puerile pandering in a attempt to trick them into buying mediocre games.
>>3065906
>acknowledge that she even exists,
she doesn't though.
>>3066112
Fear Efffect 2's add campaign probably did more harm to the game than it wanted too.
Which is a shame because it's a good deal cleverer than it would lead you to believe. Hell the game itself got over the LOLESBIANS thing pretty fast two and Hana and Rain came off as pretty genuine in the later half of the game

Inferno was cancelled 13 years ago wasn't it? Compared to Gex, I can't see a proper continuation to Fear Effect happening. If it were to be the same in regards to story and content, it will be too controversial to raise enough. The majority want their female characters to be more vulnerable and relateable these days instead of power fantasies.
