What are some ps1 games that don't use all 4 shoulder buttons? I want to play on my psp but the analog stick is broken, the psp thinks I am using it when I am not touching it (I had to fiddle with the controls to get spyro working because it was either rotating the camera or causing spyro to roll around)

RPGs and platformers are what I am mostly looking for, but anything is fine

To clarify, I can assign any two of the shoulder buttons (l1 + r1 or l2 + r2 or a combination of them) but because the psp uses the analog stick as the l2/r2 buttons for ps1 games I have to disable them in the native emulator's control settings.

downloading tomba now, and I already have the crash games. I really want to try grandia, but am unsure if it will use the 4 shoulder buttons :\

What a good idea for a thread.

I finished Castlevania SotN on PSP, I actually preferred it to the Dual Shock.

Legend of dragoon
Rhapsody a musical adventure
Legend of Legaia

If you play on automatic, Gran Turismo and most of other racing games.

I recommend the following games:
> Jade Cocoon
A very short monster catching game but its monster aspect is really good by having to catch a whole lot of monsters while also being able to fuse anything with everything.

> Digimon World 2003
In my opinion, the best of the PSX Digimon World games. Having a party of three Digimon, which in turn can also have several digivolutions on its own with very nice aesthetics thanks to the sprite artwork.

> Digimon World
A literal Digimon tamagotchi with a lot of fun but also a lot of frustration because your raised Digimon will just die after you will have spent a lot of time with it. with a lot to get in both, your city and yourself. Having a little dex to see what you already had and then make a new Digimon is something satisfying.

> Herc's Adventure
A very good top-down beat 'em up. Which you can also play with a friend (though I doubt that the PSP can play the MP, have never used it for PSX emulation) but fun on its own. Very nice sprites and animations. While the dub isn't too bad, the lip-syncing is.

> Intelligent Qube
To be honest, I haven't played this game very much Gamecenter CX introduced this game to me but a very fun and interesting puzzle game. You have to destroy rolling cubes which either will push you off a ledge or will crush you.

> Legend of Mana
A very beautiful game, both for its time and still today thanks to the good art direction.
The gameplay aspect feels a bit lackluster at the beginning thanks to not having much skills but that changes after time.
Best to be played with a friend, but you don't have to because you get to catch some monsters even a very cute Rabite.

> Abe's Oddysee/Abe's Exodus
Both are very beautiful games and sometimes difficult (especially if you are impatient).
Having to save all the mudokons can be pretty hard, especially on the first playthroughs.
Also, obligatory fart joke.

If you want a really cool platformer, get Pandemonium.
Play the first one if the PSP's POPS version can use save states. As it uses a password system instead of save files. The second one can handle saves however. Both games have a really great soundtrack to listen to while playing.

Also get Parappa the Rapper.
It's a very solid rhythm game with some funny texts and some good choreography.
Parappa's VA is a cunt, though.

And please do yourself a favour and play the first Rayman game.
Its sprite work is wonderful as are the animations with a very nice soundtrack.

This is unrelated but I recommend the Saturn or Wonderswan digimon titles, they were literally tamagotchi simulators with a gym like progression system, for someone nostalgic for the old lcd pets it's a much better representation.

2003 was my favorite ps1 game too, had some excellent spritework.
