That's because you move with the dpad, but I heard something about the item drops in this game was fundamentally broken.

What other unlikely console ports are there? I know Red Alert and Warcraft 2 have PS1 ports but never tried them.

I recently tried it on PS1 and it was actually pretty good. Being able to control your character directly really improved the experience. If it wasn't for the painful loading times, I'd say PS1 version is better.

I played the shit out of Red Alert: Retaliation in split-screen.
>>
>>3003979
No one has really disagreed that moving in absolute directions using d-pad and swinging with a face button felt amazing. On top of that, there's two player same screen co-op. The only real downsides are inventory and menu management, loading times and pretty much needing a memory card just for Diablo.

I'd like to respectfully disagree on account of its screwy drop tables, crappier resolution, and TEN FUCKING MEMORY BLOCKS TO SAVE WHAT THE FUCK
>>
I wish I had a friend to play this with, it'd be cash money.
>>
>>3004056
Resolution isn't really that important on 2D games.

Maybe I got lucky but drops wasn't really screwy to me.

Memory Cards are pretty cheap m8
>>
>>3003912
I've been playing Diablo III (not retro, I know) on PS3 and holy shit do I agree. I fucking hate having to leftclick to move my character, moving with an analogue stick and attacking with face buttons feels so much more intuitive than M+KB in any ARPG.

I actually somewhat regret getting Sacred 2 Gold on steam when I just found out Sacred 2 came out for PS3 and 360, I think I might get it cheap on ebay along with Champions of Norrath and Dark Alliance for PS2.

Are there any ARPG's on PC, new or old, that use WASD for character control?
>>
>>3004102
>tfw no diablo 2 on ps2
>>
>>3004106
I would suck up to 5 cocks to be able to play Diablo II with proper gamepad controls and UI / inventory changes
>>
>>3004123
How gracefully put and accurate this statement is.
>>
It's been forever since I booted it up, but I have Diablo for PSP and it feels pretty great being able to have a portable Diablo, hacked PSP in general with a 16gb / 32gb SD is a great platform for NES / SNES and other retro games too, I have like 150+ NES and SNES games on it, I just need to but an adapter that lets me hook up my psp to my tv.
>>
>>3004062
>Resolution isn't really that important on 2D games.

Diablo is a pre-rendered game, like Donkey Kong Country. Being the proper resoultion is actually very important. Things look very smooth and distinct in the PC game, while they look muddy and indistinct on the Playstation, which is running at half the resolution.

I don't disagree with the general sentiment of it being a good port, though.

>tfw laying in bed with a cup of tea playing Diablo on my PSP
Maximum comfy.
>>
>>3003912
If anything it's sort of weird that that game used mouse input, I mean yeah it was a PC game but nothing about it really demanded that.
>>
>>3004062
>Maybe I got lucky

Yes of course you did. That's the problem. If a KSOH could drop from the barrels in the first level, it would.
>>
>>3004529
No, I mean I was lucky because nothing game breaking happened.
>>
Actually moving your character with the D-pad is cool but the long loading times and needing an entire memory card dedicated to it kind of sully that. Console Diablo 3 is hell of a lot better than the original though.
>>
>>3004591
No reason to sit through load times today, but I remember them being pretty brutal on a 486/2xCDROM and even quite long on a 90mhz/4xCDROM.

I like the controls, but I can't get over the 4 loading screens.

I've never been able to make any meaningful progress on the PC version of D1 because the controls on the PS1 version spoiled me.
Aside from the memory card thing, none of the other issues other anons have brought up in this thread really bothered me that much.

Uniques are converted to their gold value when you save and quit the game. So only Magical items are really usable.

This is fine though because all the best equipment is Magical anyway. Those Uniques are neat, but largely unnecessary.

Been thinking of finding one as a curiosity item. Should I go for a PS1 or a Saturn version? Do either of them support a mouse?
>>
>>3005356
It's your memory. I recently beat it on psx and it had all the levels and quests intact.
>>
>>3005356
It's only missing Hellfire.
>>
>>3006223

Never played the Saturn version but the PS1 version supported Sony's proprietary mouse. I considered buying it at one point but decided the controller wasn't holding me back. I'm not sure if they had their own keyboard though.

you do know that you CAN move with keyboard keys on PCdiablo?

i havent tried psx diablo, and never thought about it but a controller instead of keyboard soudns interesting, ill just attach a controller to the PC and map keyboard keys to it.

Files are still up, either it was an iso or a portable package with instructions on how to run it without problems. I did however have another download for a PSP conversion, with PSone Classic graphics and all that.

How did you go about doing this? I have a PSP 2000. What emulator do you use for PSX games?

Any PSP model can play PSX games natively. Just install CFW and download PSX eboots of the games you wanna play.

Man I've been playing the first one and having a blast, then I looked up the price of the second one and was disappointed. It's $30-$40 for disc only... Was it really that rare? The first one is less than half the price.
>>
>>3008101
Use gamepad to move, strike; use keyboard for items, inventory. Sounds interesting. May just re-install Diablo and check that out.
>>
>>3012930
How do you move with the keyboard in Diablo? Cursor keys just move the map. Manipulating items with the keyboard also sounds dubious.
>>
How has no one modded controller support into Diablo 2 after all these years? FUCK

>>
>>3003949
Wc2 on ps1 is good until you get to Beyond The Dark Portal.
That's when you're pretty much fucked. No matter how good you get with doing micro with the controller, it just isn't good enough for some missions in Beyond the Dakr Portal, you'll be spending a lot of time on that.

>>3004946
I had a blast with SC64. My best friend didn't have a PC, so he'd come here and we'd take turns. When SC64 came out I got it, and we had us some good times with it.
I'm not saying it isn't flawed, but it was still nice to have at the time. Always knew when the computer was going to attack you when you were playing splitscreen because the game would lag for a couple seconds lol

As for the Diablo 1 ps1 port, it's good except for the HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT TAKES UP THE WHOLE FUCKING MEMORY CARD
