another photo of the board cleaned up a bit.
>>

I'm not an expert but it doesn't look too bad if you buy replacement parts and it could be a good way to learn about soldering and stuff.
>>
>>3001871
It's not bad but it needs the discrete components replaced (diodes, resistors, that electrolytic cap).

But honestly if that's SMW then I'd just junk it and get another cart for $5.
>>
>>3001882
I would do that but smw goes for 20-30 dollars used. The sad part is that shell/label are in perfect shape.
>>
>>3001882
>But honestly if that's SMW then I'd just junk it and get another cart for $5.
Those days are long gone by, my friend.
>>
>>3001892
I'm >>3001876 and didn't advice getting a new SMW cart because I realized yours was a childhood relic or something so the best thing was to actually make up for the damage yourself or with the aid of someone more knowledgeable in electronics. That way it will make you feel loads better. You can do it anon, that cart is counting on you. Come back with the good news when you're finished, we trust you will.
>>
what caused the damage? I see some resistors that are toast... did it get burned from an electrical surge, or just rust from moisture? Moisture might just do surface damage. anything more serious could burn the electrical connections inside the board, or even the chips. Either way, you won't know unless you replace those discrete parts.

if you can solder, go for it. otherwise, bite the bullet and hit Ebay
>>
>>3001871
Remove battery and clean the whole board with isopryponol, best with a toothbrush, after see if it already works, then get a new battery.
>>
>>3001914
I'm going to see what I can do with the board, I haven't given up just yet
>>3001927
I know how to solder and I have friend that can help as well. I'm just going to chance and try to fix this cart.
>>
>>3001892
>I would do that but smw goes for 20-30 dollars used.

hahaha holy fucking shit.

That's friggin hilarious. And people say Saturn games are overpriced...
>>
yeah thats a pretty minor replacement as far as discrete parts go

just go on a forum and find out what components you need then get them for pennies at digi key.
>>
>>3001905
>Those days are long gone by, my friend.

Then just get the cheapest game that supports battery saves and use it as a PCB donor - just solder the ROM chip over. There oughta be some Flintstones game or somesuch, costing next to nothing.
>>
>>3001998
I wonder, what does SMW even need with 16KB SRAM?.
>>
>>3002005
>I wonder, what does SMW even need with 16KB SRAM?.

To save your games, duh.
>>
>>3001987
thanks mate and I'll see what I can do,

I truly appreciate everyone's help in this thread, thank you so much.
>>
>>3002082
btw to clean up the corrosion, use iso alcohol.
Good luck anon!
>>
>>3002016
It doesn't even save Yoshi's coins progress or the number of your lives, it's tons of wasted space.
>>
>>3002097
It was probably for graphics. I know that a lot of older games would install extra memory right into the cart to make their games work past the SNES specs.
>>
>>3002103
That makes much more sense, even though SNES specs were still extremely generous.

Is this like smoke damage from a fire? I've tried to restore quite a few things like this when my brother worked for a restorations company, and i can tell you that if the board gets damaged, usually you can carefully apply isopropyl, but it looks like some of those lanes are wasted near the battery terminal and it looks like some of the resistors are corroded.

I wouldn't even bother dude. Just jostling the battery is gonna fuck this chip, i agree with anon above. This thing is probably fucked.

I had about half a dozen SNES that were damaged by smoke in a fire, and only one of them actually made it to functioning after a careful light alcohol wiping and q-tipping for hours. It's a fun project but the odds of you getting it to work again are slim. In addition to that, it's possible that trying to utilize it in any significant way will possibly also harm it, depending on both how you dry it whether there is any physical residue left in/on the cart when you try to activate it.

Keep in mind that in electronics like this, everything that is not solid green has to conduct electrical impulses and everything that is green has to distrivute heat evenly, at the very least.

If the battery alone is toast i would say toss it, unless you're a bad enough dude to try to salvage individual parts for it. In that case, you are probably korean or chinese, and i would advise you call hong kong and get a knock off for a few yuan.

Sorry m80

D2, which is a diode fell off from the rust.
Your easiest option is just to find another board from a donor game and swap out the rom chip.

Looks like ncaa basketball is the same board, and it's like $1 if you have a reasonably priced retro store.

soak it in vinegar and alcohol anon then scrub with a toothbrush and let it dry. Assess the damage from there then replace the battery/caps/resistors (all cents) and see if it still works. If it doesn't it's probably the chips and unless you have a flasher you're best off getting a new cart (or damage to the actual pcb which is pretty annoying to fix).

good luck and god speed anon
>>
>>3002165
also reflow solder to all the chip pins

>I've bought exclusively on ebay for a long time, my friend
>>
>>3001871
how does it get this bad in the first place?
>>
>>3002179
Some kind of liquid got in it and was never cleaned is my guess.
It's still fixable with the right knowledge and tools, carts are surprisingly durable.
>>
>overpriced
games should be at least the original retail price adjusted for inflation. I don't see why I should sell my carts for less than that, same goes for my original rgb modded snes

Hiroshi-san, you should be dead, what are you doing here, shitposting on an antique tibetan marionette theater board?

the snes mini needs a rgb mod bruh
>>
>>3001871
diodes are a-ok to replace. they usually blow because of current problems. I wouldn't say they're made to blow but it's good they did. you could get all the replacement parts from ebay and see if that fixes it.

OP here I got the cart from a goodwill 5 yrs ago and on the outside the game looked great. The label, shell is completely fine but the board looks like this.

Honestly I don't know how the hell something like this could happen. Well I'm still going to try and fix this PCB board. This game it self still works however it will not save.

Well /VR/ wish me the best of luck, i'll keep you ya'll posted.
