/vr/ advertisments thread.
>TFW no official Snatcher screenplay book.
I remember Nintendo running this during the Christmas period of 1995, in an attempt to put off consumers from buying a PlayStation (Nintendo's machine was still months away).
The fucking thing was still called Ultra 64 at this point. Thank fuck they saw sense.

>The fucking thing was still called Ultra 64 at this point. Thank fuck they saw sense.
The Ultra 64 name kinda makes sense. Their previous console was the Super NES after all.
>>2952065
Thing is, it was ALWAYS intended to be called the Nintendo 64 in Japan - it was only for the West that it was going to be called Ultra 64.
It was only at the 11th hour that Nintendo realised the power of unified brand recognition - as demonstrated by Sony's PlayStation and their own GameBoy.
Since then, the whole rediculous tradition of having different names for different regions has been dropped.
Besides, Ultra 64 was a stinky name.
>>2952085
Should have stuck with the naming conventions they had already put in place, frankly.
Nintendo
Super Nintendo
Ultra Nintendo
Where does this 64 business come in, that's not a fucking name, it's a number.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo's plan was always to call it the Ultra 64 worldwide and drop the whole Famicom/NES distinction they had up to this point, but trademark issues over the word "Ultra" in Japan led it to be renamed the Nintendo 64 over there, so they adopted that name in the west as well. If they wanted a different name in Japan to begin with, they would've called it the Famicom 64.

The amount of bits was a selling point back in those days.
SEGA's Megadrive/Genesis has a huge fucking 16BITS stamped right on the console.
It was basically Nintendo saying "fuck everybody else, our machine has 64 bits! Wooaahhhh!"
>>2952143
Urutora 64?
>>2952158
ウルトラ64
Final Fantasy.
Japanese adverts had beautiful handdrawn character artwork.
American ads have a pic of a brain with a dipstick in it.
The original XBox is one of the ugliest fucking things ever.
>>2952101
64 bits man! That's twice as much as the other systems! I don't know what that means and what they actually do but I WANT IT! WANT IT WANT IT WANTIT!
>As seen in Metal Gear Solid V

I used to let the power supply warm my house up.
>>2951590
>Net-Link
I've never heard about this before, which games did it support?
>>2952101
When I was a kid I was sure that the Nintendo after Super Nintendo was going to be Hyper Nintendo.
And I was sure that Final Fantasy 7 was going to be on Hyper Nintendo.
>>2952247
The Japanese/European versions were way sexier.
>>2952271
Correction, Final Fantasy -4- for Hyper Nintendo.
>>2952272
Hate the childish button colors, to be frank
Also prefer the button indents, no one actually -looks- at their controllers unless they're a scrub.
>>2952278
There's a rumor that the USA SNES was designed that way to stop fat-assed American kids from resting cans of coke on top of the machines.
Many NES models were ruined because spilt juice.
>>2952293
Gotta love these early ads where they would DRAW fucking pics of the graphics.
I'm impressed that this ad acknowledged how awesome the soundtrack was.
>>2952041
>GREATNESS AWAITS(TM)
>>2952298
Meanwhile the US ad was a dirty lie. Good thing they're legally obligated to tell the truth on the bottom right corner :^)
>>2952310
Tradewest didn't even distribute the Double Dragon arcade game in the US.
Most japanese ever Mario ad:

Hey, I have that one.
gosh I love Plok
I'd be pretty impressed if a 4 year old loaded and ran a C64 program desu
>>2952341
The game has 4 fans on /vr/: You, plokdev, the guy who keeps saying it's better than DKC, and the guy who calls it "motherfuckin PLOK".
>>2952101
64 bits, like the Jaguar!
>>2952101
>Hey guys, I heard they're gonna reveal the Mind Shatteringly Colossal Eldritch Horror Nintendo at E3 2016!
>>2952358
Make that 5. I bought it for 5 euros and I am having a blast with it. Everything looks colorful and the music sounds pretty good for a SNES game. Best deal I ever made for a retro game in this day and age.
Man, look at it. It's beautiful. I used to stare at this advert for hours when I was a kid.
I wanted the ice blue but settled for a black DK Land 2 bundle :(
>>2952369
I remember seeing this ad all the time in comic books. I really miss the cartoony, old school arcade aesthetic this stuff had.
I assumed this was a British game until I looked it up.
>ridiculous ad
>isometric adventure
I always thought this one was hilarious.
Bow down before the Super-FX chip.
>>2953109
I wonder how successful this was. Seems like a nice idea for popular new games.
>>2953119
I doubt someone who just dropped serious cash for a cabinet is going to drop more cash just so some faggot kids can watch instead of put money into it.
>>2953158
that is disgusting
>>2953093
>teletext
Whoa, this was a thing.
I had my first ever wank over this ad.
I want /vr/ to know that about me.
>>2953189
Disgusting ads were all over the place in the late 90s. Hated that shit.
>>2953506
