Any games like Gundam Wing: Endless Duel except as a shoot-em-up or brawler? Meaning, with actual stages and levels?
I guess I'm looking for a cross between a brawler and a shoot-em-up and a run-and-gun game.

I used to dream about remaking fighting games as full action games, like what if they made a 2D Strider game using the assets from MvC before I knew of the actual Strider 2 game, etc.
But the fact is that fighting game sprites simply would not work for good action gameplay, they are too large relative to the screen, too resource intensive and expensive to create, you simply can't make a full game with that level of quality all the way through and the large size would make the gameplay clunky and too zoomed in.
Pic related should illustrate what I mean, in order to make Strider 2 work they really had to lower the sprite resolution and zoom out the camera.
