Is it just me or did n64 games not age well at all? I got a everdrive 64 recently and most of them are just terrible games.
>>
Haven't you got the memo? Every game has aged bad. Doesn't matter if it's Symphony of the Night on PS1, Goemon's Great Adventure on N64 or Guardian Heroes on Saturn. They ALL aged BADLY! Like MILK!! XD

I'm from Australia btwn
>>
Pretty much that, N64 is a meme.

Ok, but I'm still confused as to why you feel the need to tell everyone about your fuckup.

How are we suppose to know that you're a retard that buys a flashcart before actually knowing whats good? There's this thing called emulation you could of tried before buying stuff.

lol n64 emulation is pure shit
>>
>>2938280

You're replying to bait anyway, I don't think OP actually got any everdrive, he just wanted to start another "aged" thread.

Also most people that shit on the N64 are poor kids that can't afford either a system or an everdrive, or games, since N64 emulation sucks.

OP is obviously a Nintendo hater, you need to give him non-Nintendo games like Goemon, Mischief Makers, Bomberman 64, Ogre Battle.... but wait, there's no point, OP doesn't even own a N64 or an everdrive, he'll just try to emulate them on his toaster, experience a glitch fest, and continue to be frustrated and keep calling the N64 shit.

Did you know that Hiroshi Yamauchi wasn't actually a human bean, but in reality his body was a vessel that enclosed 7 onis that were sealed across 7 different temples across Japan? Miyamoto released the seal when he was a kid, and the 7 Oni of Tyranic Monopoly started reigning supreme across the video game industry.

Thank for our saviors EA and Activision, 2 warrios from the west that fought the evil 7-heade doni, could seal it off again, with the help of another warrior from europe, Ubisoft.

Now we live on a happier era, the era of 3rd parties, with Activision, EA and Ubisoft on the lead, and the evil 7-headed oni Tyranotendo Rex sealed away. But we must be cautious, we never know when the seal could be broken again!

>>
>>2938253
Well, statistically speaking, yes. There weren't a lot of N64 games and most of them were naff, but the same holds true of the PSX -- just at a greater scale.

Enjoy the good games for what they are and know that you're experiencing the real thing -- emulation is far from good enough yet.

Oh, and Blast Corps.
>>
>>2938358

>shooters

it has at least 2 of the best from 5th gen: Starfox 64 and Sin and Punishment.

Anyway I'd disregard your post because of your "kiddy" implication, as if video games need to be "mature" in order to be good. N64 has Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, which I personally don't care, I'd much rather play the "Kiddy" Kirby's Crystal Shards or Harvest Moon 64, for example.

Also I hope you don't like "kiddy" games on PS1, like Crash or Klonoa, or "kiddy" games on Saturn, like Nights or Saturn Bomberman.
They wouldn't suit such a mature gamer such as yourself.
>>
>>2938358

Explain the CD-i, the 3DO, and the Saturn outside of Japan then, because media usage was only a small portion of why most third-parties stayed off the N64; having more to do with sour relations with third-parties dating far back (as I mentioned above), the policies enforced, and the complexity of the dev kits.

There were a lot of great Midway games on N64
>>

>Complexity of dev kits
This also plays into my cartridge point.
I mean, looking back Nintendo really shot themselves in the foot with such limited game memory limits in the name of anti-piracy. No loading times were a major plus but...goddamn at what cost?
>>
>>2938404
>This also plays into my cartridge point.
How does the difficulty curve of programming for a system mostly relate to its storage media however? If that was the case, then the Saturn and (for a non-/vr/ example) the PS2 would've been easy to make games for.
>>
>>2938426
Being constrained to 16 to 32MB when the other guys could handle 650MB is a hell of a constraint.

Only two N64 cartridges were 64MB and they were apparently a bitch to manufacture.
>>
>>2938431

>>

>I forgot the Resident Evil 2 port (that they had to cut all the cinematics from)
What? The FMVs are retained in that port, of course they (and the audio associated with them) had to be compressed.
>>
>>2938445
>>2938439
I feel retarded now.

There was definitely an N64 multiplat that replaced elaborate FMV sequences with shitty text+still slideshows, what was it?

>Being constrained to 16 to 32MB when the other guys could handle 650MB is a hell of a constraint.
Isn't storage capacity and systems being very tedious to program for almost two different problems though? While the former may have had some effect, the latter definitely crippled developers more.

It didn't help that Nintendo was forcing them to utilize the default microcode, which wasn't that great in execution, and only allowed them to use their own near the end of the system's life.

As a pretty big Nintendo fan (up until the Wii U at least) I honestly think every truly worthwhile and not awfully aged N64 game was on the Wii's Virtual Console, and most of those have had proper remakes at this point. N64/DS for SM64 is debatable as to which is better but the 3DS Zeldas are straight improvements if you're not playing for nostalgia.

Mischief Makers and the Goemon games aren't on the VC.
There's many many others that still aren't on the VC, only the popular 1st party titles for VC released or remakes.
>>
>>2938507
I honestly liked the changes, some of the bosses were really obtuse on the original, I'm pretty sure I had to resort to wallthroughs once. Had I not played that first I'm sure the additions would have been very helpful.

I thought at this point everyone knew about it, but I guess not.

It was the first game Treasure did for a N64, a fun 2D sidescroller, definitely must play for anyone who owns the system, or likes Treasure games, by the same director of Gunstar Heroes and Guardian Heroes.

N64 had some great games mixed in with a sea of shit.

This wasn't an issue of whether the games aged badly or not. A shitload of N64 games just weren't very good to begin with.
But for every ten Earthworm Jim 3Ds there was a Banjo-Kazooie that made up for them.

The fire and moths were removed from the Oldawa fight

Goht now gets knocked down instantly every time the Goron roll touches him

Gyra... whatever the fish guy was now only fights on the surface of the water so you don't have to dive after him

Twinmold now gives you the Giant's Mask during the battle after you shoot him with a few arrows, then Giant Link finishes him off in a QTE

Every boss now has a big Majora eye on their back that causes them to take even more damage if you shoot it

Also the Song of Double Time now allows you to specify exactly what hour you want to travel to, you are automatically given the Stone Mask at the very start of the pirate maze and for some reason there's an optional Business Scrub hole that lets you skip the entire Deku King Palace maze

Fuck me, is that really all it had? I had panzer, jsrf, black, doa3, crimson skies, unreal, gotham, and kingdom under fire. My panzer disc never worked, and I played rally, forza, phantom dust, steel battallion, and phantom crash at friends houses. Never played breakdown or metal wolf chaos or whatever is up in the top right corner. Most of these were aight games with black and steel battalion probably being the ones I liked best of the bunch, but nothing I would really recommend nowadays.

You know Halo 1 was pretty good I will give you that, Never liked Doom 3 much as it really let me down from Doom 1 and 2. Even 64 was better than 3 I would say. Morrowind was good with mods. KOTOR was never good. HL2 is a good game, but it makes me sad that it got rid of all the interesting monster enemies from 1 and only replaced them with humans mostly.

>>
>>2939137
I say the only truly great libraries are the Mega Drive, Saturn, and NES. Snes was lacking and many of the games ran poorly, GBA was just for rehashes and ports, and the PS2 had too many story games and not enough arcade style games.
>>
>>2939137
Instincts was a remake of the original, probably because Xbox couldn't do the PC maps justice.
