Ok /vr/, I really want to play Baldur's Gate for the first time now, but tell me, why shouldn't I play the Enhanced Edition?

I'm a sucker for extra companions but I would easily ignore them. Is the Enhanced Edition really that bad?
>>
>>2924097
I heard it breaks more than it fixes and it's easier to mod the originals to fix the things that were originally wrong with them (being too easy, sometimes not being authentic to the rulesets, correction of bugs and exploits)

so what people will suggest is that you pirate all the basic versions of the trilogy, then spend 6 hours modding them all into one beautiful interwoven mess of the kind of balance crimes that are correctly characteristic of the Dungeons and Dragons experience

the only downside to modded BG over BGEE is the tiny, tiny little UI that you'll have to strain your eyes at unless someone has made a mod that correctly covers that without bugging the fuck out on modern operating systems
>>
>>2924097
Enhanced Edition is fine. I'm sure someone will post a litany of reasons why its not.
>>
I'm going to try my best to wager the pros and cons of EE, but I will, obviously, be biased, since I prefer the originals. So cons first:
>A normal game can be easily modded close to the level of EE (high resolution, BG1->BG2 mechanics, etc.) with just a few minutes of looking for fixes. There's a few things that EE does which are pretty unique (like the ability to zoom in), but I never found any use for them when playing. EE is more expensive; up to you if downloading a single Fixpack and maybe some widescreen mods is worth the bonus $$$.
>EE will likely never support certain mods that the community enjoyed but that haven't been imported. The absolutely terrific Northern Tales of the Sword Coast aren't compatible with BG1EE, and neither is Tactics mod for BG2EE (though it's had better successors). I've also seen reports about Ascension (which makes Throne of Bhaal so, so much better) not working well with BG2EE, but I can't confirm this at the time.
>EE has a lot of "fanfic" additions. Some of the NPCs might feel off (bonus EE NPCs stand out horribly from classic BG1 NPCs in particular; might feel kinda uncanny, one may even call them special snowflakes), the new items in BG1EE kinda screw up the low magic feel of BG1, with some being overpowered.
>With the above in mind, in terms of fanfic bonus content, EE is beaten by World of Baldur's Gate, which is an easily installable, stable Big World installation which updates classic BG, adds a couple of decent story/NPC/item/location mods to it and combines BG1+BG2+IWD1 into a single game. WoBG and EE are mutually exclusive. Some argue that the liberties taken with EE by Beamdog mean that you might as well go all the way and install WoBG.

tbc.
>>
The original version is easy enough to mod for higher resolution or newer platform support, and you technically have more features at your disposal as a result of years worth of fan mods already floating around the Internet.

The only thing that might have sold me on the Enhanced Edition is the addition of NPCs who can be romanced by same-sex characters, which was previously lacking from the series. But again, there are always fan mods for that sort of thing, and they can make the romance system even *less* restrictive than EE does.

Now, if you want to play the game on mobile, EE is probably your only choice. I can't think of any third-party projects that aim to port the Infinity Engine to mobile platforms.
>>
>>2924232
>On release, BGEE was fucking horseshit, with online barely any better, some of the iconic movies and graphics being turned into terribly shitty comics, the map looking pastel, NPCs being re-designed to accomodate the BG2 engine willy-nilly, and some "fixes" that nobody wanted, like re-introducing Kivan's timed quest into the game, turning him from an early game powerhouse and a viable party candidate (among powerhouses like Khalid, Ajantis, Kagain, Minsc, Montaron...) into a shitface. Some of those problems still persist (particularly the Kivan one, which still makes me salty), but for a casual player who wants to get the Baldur's Gate series beaten with no promises for a replay or getitng too intricate into all that shit, aren't that consequential.
>Overall, EE isn't purist. Particularly the forced BG1->BG2 mechanics transition can feel off for BGEE players; BG2 mechanics kinda suck in many ways for BG1, and NPCs are changed to accomodate this. Again, when EE was first released, Kivan started with a Spear weapon but his proficiency was in Halberds because Beamdog was lazy. There is no shame in not caring about this shit, however.
>IWD:EE is a travesty.

Okay, that was enough negativity. Rather than listing the pros, I will tell you reasons for buying it:
>You're a Linux/Mac user and want comfort in running Baldur's Gate without any emulation
>You are a casual (let's not be afraid of that word) player and don't want to associate yourself with the anxiety of modding your game; again, BG is easy to fix and patch up to modern standards, but if you'd rather not risk anything going wrong, you might as well.
>You're a fan of modern Bioware games. The writing on the new NPCs evokes certain Biowarian qualities.

Overall, I won't hate you for buying the EEs; they ended up generating more Baldur's Gate discussion, and the games are pretty fun still, worth talking about. EEs are not my cup of tea, though. I tried to not be too biased. Have fun.
>>
As for playing BGEE on mobile, forget about it..

My tablet works pretty great for DOSBOX games like Heroes of Might and Magic or World of Xeen (turn-based, simple stuff), but BG is a nightmare, and EE on mobile can barely be modded anyway.
>>
>>2924097

If you want to play only the first game, and without mods, going for the EE isn't a bad idea, since it does simplify a lot of things.

Granted, BG I wasn't designed with the same rules that BG II has, so some things like dual wielding and weapon proficiencies are a bit off, and kits (A dual wielder barbarian is a fucking beast at lvl 1).

But if you want to play the whole trilogy or use mods, go for the original saga and mod it with BGT (not TuTu, it's outdated).

Above all anon, just play the game.
>>
>>2924278
Dual-wielding and some of the kits' basic immunities don't throw me off as much as the change to weapon skills. Namely what gets me is Werewolf Island and the fact that the weapons you need for the "immune to damn near every melee weapon" boss are a Bastard Sword and a Dagger. Wasn't a big deal in the original because your Large Swords/Small Swords skill would cover it, but now it's two weapon types that you probably don't have any pips invested across any character.
>>
I'm actually playing for the first time myself. Could I have some more information about the BG1+BG2+IWD1 mod?
>>
>>2924305

Merging BG and IWD has traditionally given buggy results.
>>
>>2924305
it's a Polish fork of the Big World Project, which is basically a FUCKHUEG installator of everything and then some.

It's surprisingly stable, but dunno if it offers an English version.

http://baldur.cob-bg.pl/The_World_of_Baldurs_Gate?pg=2

The mods from this link at the very bottom (SCS, Item & Spell Revision, Widescreen fix) are pretty solid though as standalones.

Kits are small time compared to multiclasses, which were always there.

>>2924287
An end game fighter can rip trough that boss even without the proficiencies, the to-hit penalty is no big deal at that point. And there are at least 5 other weapons that can hit him. Also despite being a werewolf he has no magic resist so you can just fry him with spells.

For the most part, that only depends on the order in which you install them.
>>
>>2924097
EE is okay but the new companions are just REALLY bad, think the worst characters from Dragon Age and Mass Effect, their writing is an atrocity.

The original good stuff is still there, but the only new character that's actually good is a literal bear, which is a hidden party member. Probably because you can't really write a bear to be a dumbfuck with an obnoxious mary sue personality. He's just a bear.

If you just want new characters, EE isn't worth it for that alone, though it's a servicable way to play the game otherwise.

It has tablet support, which is really the best selling point, if you want that, EE will do this
>>
>>2924501
BGT is buggy...?
>>
>>2925538
Hell yes. For one thing last I checked the readme, one of the worst bugs of EasyTuTu is still unfixed (the infamous "saves corrupt in a certain city" bug, the readme didn't update in ETT), and unlike EasyTuTu a certain character interaction isn't there: the 4th wall breaking quote that happens when you select a party member too many times in a row pops up at random for no reason.

The latter can be fixed with Dark Side of the Sword Coast without actually installing the full mod, but the former's pretty damn bad.
>>
>>2925742
There's also the Candlekeep chanters, which don't chant anymore and have no dialog.

It's a small bug, but the chanters are pretty cool.

The original just does not run on most modern computers, even the widescreen mod is mostly broken. You can sort-of play it with one of the conversions mods. but then you'd have to delve into the cesspool of human filth than is the baldurs gate modding community, which is not an option for those of us who are not degenerated tumblr faggots. EE is basically the only option unless you have a windows 98 machine with a crt screen lying around. And appart from the minor annoyance with proficiency it's pretty good too.
>>
>>2927685
Books do not have gameplay, that's a fucking retarded comparison.

Mods and ports with enhanced content are about added/changed gameplay content, compatibility and accessibility, books of fiction are about storytelling.
Baldur's Gate is not solely about storytelling.

You can also play EE and fully ignore the shitty new characters.

Flametongue only deals +2 damage and thac0 to regenerating creatures, but due to engine quirks always counts as a +4 for overcoming enchantment level requirements.

It's also handy when imported into BG2 since it lets you have a +4 weapon vs vampires and liches right out the gate.

This is absolutely wrong. I've installed the original 1.0 version straight off the discs to windows 7, then patched it with patches from the interwebs and it runs fine.

Also high resolution mods aren't worth it, unless you like playing a game for ants. One of the few nice additions of the Enhanced Edition is real time scaling with the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.

Well good for you. I haven't managed to run it since 2005. There was that one east-european UI overhaul mod specially designed for working around the legacy direct rendering glitches in intel and nvidia gpus that sort of worked, but had a tendency to crash when wildscreened. >Party?

>>
>>2941421
the easiest way is to just stair-dance them like you're in a roguelike

This is effective on literally every kind of enemy in any area where there are screen transitions like that, but the iron throne gives you a huge opportunity to capitalize on it

basically you run down the stairs, and then wait with all your fighters, and blitz them as soon as they come down

Also useful is stink clouds and fireballs and such, and I believe there is that one cloud spell that does instant death or damage over time, which is your best friend here really, assuming the enemies aren't actually on top of you yet
>>
>>2941421
use right ladder to go up

Have a tank with very low AC handle the melee, while your team does its work. Have them pop potions of magic blocking (or w/e the 100% immunity one is called) as you engage. The enemy mage spells will fizzle, and especially those very dangerous enemy clerics.

>>2941480
This doesn't work in the original version of BG1, only on mods using BG 2 engine or EE. In those it is an extremely cheap and effective tactic, that also works all through BG 2, as well.
>>
>>2943541
>an extremely cheap and effective tactic
so much so that I don't actively use it unless it makes sense thematically, similar to the tactic of laying traps before triggering an enemy as hostile

but there are times like, when you sight a swarm of beholders across a bridge, luring them into an ambush instead of fighting them straight up makes perfect sense.

Similarly, if you're in some super evil tomb where some ancient lich is sleeping in a coffin waiting just for you to wake it up, filling the entire room with traps before hand is perfectly logical
>>
>>2941421
>>2943541

Oh, and I forgot to add. There's no actual requirement to kill them. You need the papers in a room behind them. You can actually have the party thief sneak past them and steal the papers. Or even a mage with invisibility (at least 2 casts)

What should I know about gems before I sell them all? Do I need to keep all the Zircons, emeralds, diamonds and crap gems for a quest or do they exist as treasure to be sold for money?

>>

The original game is considerably cheaper to get and largely good as it is, aside from the graphics, which can easily be fixed with mods. The mechanics are at times somewhat clunky (being based on an old edition of DnD, that's kind of expected), but the EE generaly breaks more than it fixes when ti comes to game mechanics.

Also, if one wants to play BG but with better graphics and newer system, I'd suggest picking up Neverwinter Nights 2, which can be gotten with all its expansions for pretty cheap on GoG or Steam. Not only is it a good game in itself (well, the basic game is pretty meh, but the first expansion is really good), but somebody has made a mod that adapts the entirity of the original BG to the game engine. The same has also been done for Icewind Dale, so you can effectively get 2 games for free. Of course NWN2 has its own flaws, including a shitty camera, but I think it's a pretty good deal.
>>
>>2943834
>NWN 2

You've got to be kidding. NWN 2 is really ugly and is one of the clunkiest RPGs I've ever played; with a terrible UI and camera.
>>

>>
>>2943802
An angel skin ring is used for a quest in Baldur's Gate proper. In addition to the rogue stone in BG2 as >>2943808 pointed out, you can also use a diamond and a beljuril gem to upgrade an item there. Throne of Bhaal has uses for a further couple rogue stones, star sapphires, a diamond and an emerald, so you could hold on to those from BG2 (not BG1 since there's an inventory reset when you start the second game,) or don't bother since I'm pretty sure they're all contained in the expansion itself.
>>
>>2943838

BG Reloaded for it is good however

Yesterday I went aginst Ascencion+SCS Amelyssan.

My party had roughly 9million exp on everyone.

CHARNAME - Sorcerer
Korgan
Minsc (Changed to Barbarian through EE)
Sarevok
Imoen
Viconia

I was hell; I even managed to get Balthazar on my side and still, Amelyssan managed to kill everyone but the warriors and the monk.

Funny thing is, is the last part of the battle I wanted to morph to the slayer to speed up the killing. Somehow, I managed to do it at the same time Amelissan died. Which bugged her, and my battle.

Should I try again, I'm leaning towards changing viconia and imoen for Solaufein and Haer'Dalis or maybe Mazzy. Since in that battle what you really need is muscle.

Thoughts?

I want to start BG1EE, but I have a few questions as someone who isn't familiar with D&D or BG.

In Baldur's Gate, how can a Ranger become a Fallen Ranger?

Why can't Rangers be neutral?

How does the whole "patron deity" thing work with Rangers? Do I have to pick one?
>>
>>2952523
- If your reputation gets too low you lose your ranger powers. But you'd really have to work at it, reputation tends to max out pretty fast.
- That's the rules.
- No such thing.
>>
>>2952523
>In Baldur's Gate, how can a Ranger become a Fallen Ranger?
If they take a hit to their reputation score (the easiest way to do this is kill a neutral NPC), they lose their ranger status and become a gimped fighter. Paladins have a similar mechanic.

>Why can't Rangers be neutral?
Because of the way D&D 2e defines a ranger, a naturalist good-hearted warrior rather than a woodsy introvert. It's stupid, but it's the way it is.

>How does the whole "patron deity" thing work with Rangers?
By extension they earn their casting abilities through Silvanus, being demi-druids of a sort. No, you don't get to choose a patron deity. The only unique thing you choose as a ranger is your racial enemy.

Could I just use this http://sourceforge.net/projects/eekeeper/ to change my alignment (and ignoring the restrictions) after creating a character? I'm stuck between choosing Ranger or Monk and I don't like either of their alignment restrictions.
>>

>Why should I play
True Cross-Platform, you can play it on mobile.
No real need to mod for your first time playing
Expansion coming, if you're into that.
Nice new portraits and voice packs.

>Why shouldn't I play
Most important improvements and fixes are easily gotten by mods.
EE doesn't support all of the older mods.
New kits can be OP as hell outside of new the Rogue kit.
BG1 in particular runs off of a different engine to BG2 when it comes down to the originals; some argue balance is out to hell in EE because of it.
New NPCs/Quests don't really match up to the style of the games themselves and feel more like modern Bioware.
Black Pits is fun, but it's really just an arena mode.
All quests except for one are IAP on mobile, as well as the voice and portrait packs.
>>
>>2933176
>Expansion of BG1
>Not a whole new game
Why? I'd rather judge this thing by it's own merits. As it already is the new quests stick out like a sore thumb, and the expansion is probably going to feel like a whole different game.

Plus there's the whole "you're going to lose all that fresh new content when you import your character anyway."
>>
>>2925464
I actually prefer tablet. Mostly because two of the biggest new quests are omitted unless you pay for them. Come to think of it, has anyone made a mod that disables the Beamdog content from EE? Might be worthwhile, might not.

All the new characters really are unbearable. I can hardly bear them all.

NPC mods tend to be bad. At your pic is sure a show of pure autism. But for example, now being able to play Ascencion on EE ToB isn't necesarily a good thing.

EE is simply better than the original. However I do like to play older BG sometimes for nostalgia sake. Also it had better voice acting (Polish version had great actors, especially in BG 2)

Nostalgia - the only reason I could think of.

On one hand, it's the big name actors and some smaller time, theatre actors, and you can surprise yourself after the years with how the guy from the beginning of Chłopaki nie płaczą is Haer'dalis.

But come on, most of the voice acting crew were the random people working in CDProjekt. It's very inequal when looking that way. Polish Taerom Fuiruim to this day sounds like a total faggot.

If you grew up with the English version, you'd naturally prefer that.

This DM is a joke right? My players would murder me if I pulled that shit. Having the majority of your game in Civilization can be pretty dull after a while, and nomagicallowed is a bit obnoxious.
>>
>>2957023
BG is a video game. if you approach it from the pen-and-paper perspective you're going to hate it for being so constricting

and being able to use magic inside Athkatla is like 500 gold and a trip to the government district

>everyone hails it as the greatest game of all time
they're bloody wrong
>>
>>2957023
You can use magic wathever you like, just some Cowlead Wizards are gonna appear everytime and try to kill you.

I played in a NWN server set in Amn and using magic just near to Athkatla meant actually serious consequences like paying lots of money, being imprisoned for years or death penalty (that means your character it's just removed forever). Just being involved with the Cowlead Wizards was serious shit. And that was just one of the organizations trying to control your actions.
>>
>>2957023

Anon, but the unsanctioned use of magic is the motor of the plot. It makes sense within it's own world.

Granted it's kind of bullshit, but so is Imoen's arrest.
>>

>everyone hails it as the greatest game of all time

Just fuck my shit up. All I wanted was for my Cleric to turn undead when undead are around, heal everyone, and whack shit if they've got nothing better to do, and now I'm tumbling down this hole of finding the right triggers and actions to do shit properly.
>>

Or convince them you're rad enough to handle magic by killing enough of their enforcers. Which gives you some sweet loot.

The mobile version could be a lot worse really. It tries, but in the end a computer's just obviously better at Baldur's Gate. At least you're not using a controller, like that Playstation port that never got off the ground would have you do.
>>
>>2959747
There's a Playstation mouse.

But of course a game that actually needs a mouse probably wouldn't support it. Console games are awful at supporting peripherals that they need. I think the only one off the top of my head that does is Eye of the Beholder on the Sega CD. I don't think the same game on SNES supports the SNES mouse, either.

Play it how you want

Don't be like novel version.
That's all you need to know.

But if you really need CANON, here's my bullshit guideline:
> Class most likely one of these: Bard (because Imoen tells you skipped out on lessons, maybe your Bhaalspawn likes to play) or Mage (Sorcerer is also possible due to divine heritage), Fighter is also possible but it's too close to version in Novel
> No divine class: maybe except the monk because AO, ur-god of Forgotten Realms setting, forbade divine intervention from other gods regarding Bhaalspawn
> reasonable int or wis because freaking Candlekeep
> Race: human or half-elf

Jester isn't useless, its just out of place in almost any strategy. You use it in conjunction with the invisibility spell. However, monsters that kill each other don't grant you XP, so if you get pissed when you miss out on XP like I do, its not for you (or me).
>>
>>2962198
Some are good, some are terribad.

The bad ones are worse than anything Beamdog injected, so if you're playing first time you probably shouldn't put in any.
>>
>>2962959
Jester's are fine. You just have to kill shit before they kill each other. It's just not a very fun class to play because like the Skald, they principally just sit there singing. They're tolerable and pretty good if you can use the AI scripts properly and it's not your main character. Otherwise, commanding your band of merry assholes just isn't as fun.

Are you talking about the big world project, a preset for the big world project, or a separate mod ? When I look for "World of Baldur's gate" as amod, I only find a few links in some polish language.
>>
What are some good NPC mods with dialogues all along the story and personal quests (don't care much about romance or not though) ?

I've heard that Solaufein and Saerileth are complete NPC mods.
>>
>>2964595
>good
>complete NPC mods
Are you implying that complete = good or asking if these two complete mods are "good"?
>>
>>2964793
Well I've read these mods are somewhat of better quality than other NPC mods, with full banter, quests, objects. Not sure about the actual writing or balance though.
>>
>>2964595
Saerileth: WARNING! MARY SUE CLASS 12 APPROACHING!
Solaufein: character can get a bit clingy dialogue-wise, but it says something when it's considered one of the best Character mods. It's also a bit OP. He gets two items equivalent of Edwin's necklace.

Kelsey: said to be good, but has a entirely separate mod that's devoted to choosing him over Anomen romantically.
Keto, Angelo and Xan for BG2 also considered good.

There's also NPC project for BG1 that expands on characters from BG1 with more dialogues and junk. It has romance events too, but you have the option of installing or not installing them separately.
>>
Do you play this game by literally savescumming all the time?

>useless
Get a Defender of Easthaven in the other hand, buff up with Hardiness, and your ToB Barbarian will have 80% damage resistance, on top of a d12 hit die, faster moving and overall a shitload of goodness.

It's one of the better non-caster single classes, in fact.

Druid is kinda eh, but still, too much utility to consider him totally useless. It's just that Cernd has the shittiest kit. Play the Avenger.
>>
>>2965568
what i mean is, other classes make them obsolete
figther multi or berserker dual>barbarian
blade>other bards
cleric>druid
sorcerer or wild mage>any caster
>>
>>2933176
does my waifu still die after giving birth?
>>
>>2965341
You could do that, but it's way more fun to just roll with whatever happens. Npcs dying is no big deal.
>>
>>2965341
You can get the others resurrected at a temple if they die. You can absolutely beat the game without reloading due to death, but 90% of that is knowing the mechanics of the game and the encounters beforehand. For example, the mage assassin outside the Friendly Arm Inn. He always opens with Mirror Image, Fear, and Magic Missiles. That will fuck you up at level 1 if you don't get lucky with your saves or interrupting his fear bomb, and you'll have shit HP to soak up those kinds of shenanigans. There are a couple of ways to work around it, but that's the shit that usually kills you at those levels. Once you get a few levels and some more HP, the game is generally more forgiving.

A big problem is the log is fucking terrible for figuring out what is fucking you up, but you can totally beat this game without savescumming.
>>
>>2965616
Fighter multi makes all classes and npcs obsolete, as does rolling for perfect stats and dozens of other metagaming tricks. Thank god that's not the only way to play. Barbs rip and tear trough the game just as good as any other figher-like, so thanks for your valuable input but no, tier 1 classes are not obsolete whatever that means.
>>
>>2958698
Should I take no response as a "No, you shouldn't."?
>>
>>2965673
Remember the Tactics mod? It had a ton of fun giga-battles, but made the rest of the game boring-easy in comparison. I played trough bg2 with SCS2 and it had the same issue: the AI improvements for most mooks were barely noticeable, while any battle with mages was a bitch, especially because you'd have to learn their new magic/antimagic system that gets changed every patch. Imo playing the base game without minmaxing is more fun than abusing metagaming with scs. It certainly is one of the better mods. but I wouldn't really recommend it, certainly not on a first playtrough.
>>
>>2965616
Only as an issue of what's fun to do with CHARNAME and playing a min-maxing class with lots of abilities available. Barbarians, the bard kits, and the not-wildmage/sorcerers wizards are all fine as support characters. As for Druid, you actually WANT one of those as a second heal monkey with access to insect swarm and fire elementals.
>>
>>2965537
You shouldn't have installed the banter accelerator
>>
>>2965690
Yeah, the SCS mod is brilliant but it has a major problem with balance. It turns it into savescumming: the movie.

The kobolds and xvart village made my game lag like fuck due to the extreme number of enemies. What is it that causes that? Is it a lack of RAM or processing power, because I was playing it on a laptop that could get max FPS on Neverwinter Nights no matter how much chaos I rained. Baldur's Gate 2 should've been a joke.
>>
>>2965690
I'm not a fan of SCS myself. The issue with enemies never seemed to be one of their shitty AI, but not being prepared on my end for the shit they would pull. Like Tarnesh. You can tweak his AI to be basically an instant game over the second he can see your character unless you've outleveled his antics.
>>
>>2965706
>Is it a lack of RAM or processing power
Probably one of those, if it's some overly long and convoluted scripts trying to evaluate 100 things at once on 20 different creatures.
>>
>>2965706
this. I was ok with SCS for BG1, but once I got into BG2, it was ridiculous. I went to De'Arnise hold and got demolished by Spirit Trolls, and the Torg'al fight was insane. I had to cheat to get through the demons outside the Planar Sphere.
>>
>>2965715
Oh yeah the torgal encounter was brilliant, lifted straight out of Tactics btw. I had just opened the door and sent my stealth scout in when the troll sneaked outside on his own and backstabbed one the my spellcasters into panic mode. I had to pound him with a dozen rounds of spells to get trough the regen, while continuously summoning mooks for him to chew on.
>>
>>2965673
Well, it's super modular so you can just pick and choose what parts of it you want. If you toggle everything on you'll probably get your shit slapped, read http://www.gibberlings3.net/readmes/readme-stratagems.html#content to see what parts you want. Enemies not having horrible AI is a difficulty tweak I'd never play without, personally.

Use your own judgement of how hard you want things to be (combined with what other mods you're using, since obviously having Weimer's item upgrade mod makes you substantially more powerful with access to weapons like Celestial Fury +5.) Mages having full prebuffs is a pretty huge difficulty spike, and smarter demons and smarter dragons both give them instant spellcasting amongst other things, which you may or may not be okay with given that they should be difficult enemies.
>>
>>2965704
shouldn't have installed the mod at all.
>>

>>
That 1 ability score deduction you get hit with during that dream in Spellhold, can you ever get it back? Or is it gone forever?
>>
>>2967615
It's gone forever. You might be able to increase it again near the end of SoA depending on what choices you make before fighting the final boss, though (as in, the potential stat increases there aren't tied to which one you have reduced in Spellhold.)
>>
While we're on the subject, is there a way to play the original BG2 without horrible slowdowns? Which bugfix mods are recommended?
>>
>>2967615
it's gone forever, but you can use the machine of Lum the Mad in Watcher's Keep to boost an ability score back.
>>
>>2962172
Well I don't think any god of the forgotten realms would want more competition of other gods especially Bhallspawn also I think some book tells you about how some three dudes became gods asociated with dead or some shit
>>
>>2968581
Slowdowns are often caused by having fucktons of items in your inventory, since the game constantly checks them to see if they should trigger something.

The real question is what kind of shitty players would challenge a bunch of mages and beholders to a stand-up fight
>>
Returning somewhat to OP's question, I've been playing BG2:EE on an 8" android tablet for a few weeks now and it's been a surprisingly great experience. All the bugs and quirks from the PC game seem to have been cleaned up, graphics and sound are crisp and clear, and screen zooming works really well.

I don't know what the new characters are like and I never will, as they're premium DLC I have no intention of buying. So what I have is basically classic BG2 that I can play on the bus, with a few extra lines of dialogue here and there, and the pointless but harmless ability to stack 80 arrows instead of 40.

It entirely depends of the server you play, also the DM's you find. Of course playing single it's not even an option.
I played in a server were you need to eat, drink, they were factions, wars, crafting, spell creation, schools, like 50 races and subraces and basically everything you can find in all the 3.5 D&D manuals, and more.

When it gets good it's like playing D&D pen & paper with graphics, an incredible experience.
When it gets bad it's terribly slow and ruined by tons of personal drama.
In any case any other single or multiplayer game can't offer you anything remotely similar to NWN.
>>
EE is far superior to original genreally speaking.

A fuckton of bugs have been fixed, even longstanding engine problems.

The pathing for example is a BAJILLION times better, your party will correctly wait to go to an area even if they bump into a party member in front instead of trying to go some circuit around.

Virtually all mods have been made compatible.

There is one that's unlocked without paying on mobile, the Sun Monk quest in both games.

Honestly the portraits and voicesets are kinda worth it if you want (because you're running mobile, modding isn't the easiest thing to do and is quite limited), but the others aren't really as they were originally optional downloads before Steam/GOG.
