Looking for good chiptune players, for SPC and NSF.

I’ve been using winamp plugins for years, but i figured there should be something better by now.

For my chiptune stuff, I use XMPlay with various format plugins. foobar2000 is fine, if you also want to use it as your primary audio player. Otherwise, it's a bit more than you need for just chiptunes.

says the guy using winamp, this isn't 1995

Winamp plugins are pretty good for NSF (I personally use NotSoFatso), but in any other case I default to NEZ Player (also referred to as NESPlug++) which also supports GSF and various GG/SMS formats and MSX2.

For SNES, I use 黒猫, which is a stellar program in my opinion.

I heard SNES isn't chiptune.
>>

To be honest, I find the Winamp plugins to still be the best option available.

The SPC one sucks, the rest and VGM are A-OK.

People hating on Winamp need to fuck off.

Highlighting again. It's maybe the only player completely emulating almost all soundchips as original as possible.

+1 for foobar. Even when I used Winamp for regular music, I used foobar for every kind of game audio.

Serious question: why not just convert to mp3?
>>
>>2909952
The original sound files are really tiny, not even 1mb for a whole SNES soundtrack, while one in mp3 would take up much more space.

And in order to get a good conversion you need a good chiptune player in the first place. Ofcourse there are sites which offer mp3 or even flac version of the more popular stuff, but then you have to download a lot.
>>
>>2909952
There isn't really much point in converting them when it's not much trouble to play them as they are. Some formats allow clean looping forever, so if you wanted to listen to one track non-stop all day you probably can.

It's not that the existing formats are inherently better, just that there aren't many big advantages to converting to another format to make it worthwhile.

If you have a specific use case for doing it, then by all means go ahead.

winamp with notsofasto plugin for nes, and one in your pic for snes, modplugplayer for various tracker formats(.mod, .xm etc).

Im still looking better player for gameboy music files, the winamp plugin is ass and havent found anything useable other than using emulator which is pain in the ass.
