I only know of the chode-like Tsuchinoko in Aria of Sorrow on GBA. It's not really that rare, but easy to miss because it only appears in one room about 25% or so of the time. It grants you a soul that makes the shop cheaper. Not ret tho. Was it seen in other games.

I ran into a shiny not too long ago.
I caught Lapras in Union Cave and I was going to go back to Violet to grab a low-level Zubat from Dark Cave because I wanted a Crobat.
On my way out of the cave, I ran into a shiny level 22 Zubat. Obviously I'd have preferred grabbing on under 22, but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. He was on my team for the rest of the game.
Seeing these guys in the DKC3 credits always mystified me as a kid. I always had a feeling there was more content to the game but never knew how to open the lost world.

Even then in mother 3 most of the best equipment that requires grinding is found in chapter 7 so you at least use it for awhile, but the gutsy bat is probably just a fuck you to those who always need the best equipment in their games.

In the first game that they appear, they show up on six random tiles out of 400 or so in a single route in the game. The good news is once you find a spot where they appear, they will keep appearing there as long as you don't leave the route (the spots are randomized every time you enter the route). So the best strat is to bring tons of balls, find the spot, and catch a ton of them. Make sure you get a female so you can breed them and thus never have to do the bs again. Also, you need a female with really high beauty stat in order to get a chance at a milotic, since they only evolve when their beauty is maxed. This is only coming from rse though, I know kothing of them past that because I got them then and made it a point to never bother catching them again.

You can find them in the cave of the past, in the second and third section. Their not difficult enemies but are infamous for their rarity and having a 1/128 chance of dropping ness's best weapon, the gutsy bat. Of coarse being available in only the final dungeon makes grinding for it not worth it in any way unless you wsnt the bragging rights, the rights to being able tp say you wasted your time.

He only loaded if you entered the room in a place you couldn't reach him, and he zeroed in on your location and tried to get to you, unlike the behavior of every other zoomer.

I actually caught both legendary birds lugia and ho-oh in silver as shinies by 'legal means'. not sure what mechanism in the game allows for the player to encounter shinies, but it seemed to me that some games were more favoured by it than others. In the same run - the third at that time - through the game, I had encountered many wild shinies, minor pokemon, such as sentret and gligar, but also another rare pokmon: togepi! years later when i had another run through silver, I didn't encounter any shiny at all. I heard from some other people as well they haven't even seen any shiny but gyardos in any game. I think it's a hidden parameter that sets out the luck of the player when you begin the game and will affect your playthrough for the rest of the game to some extent.
