Eternal Punishment is much more grindy then it should be, and the psx battle system is pretty slow. Still, the all-adult party cast is pretty nice.
Innocent Sin has Hitler, and that's great.
Since they're so connected I can't put one above the other storywise.
Maya is my waifu, so I guess I like that she has a personality in IS. Good ol' hearttits.
So all in all, IS>EP, although they're both good and enjoyed best as a whole story rather than as parts.

I prefer Eternal Punishment, but both are good.
EP feels more like a expansion than a true sequel, it's just more of the same thing but lacking IS' general weirdness and charm. Enjoyable, sure, but nothing more. It's not even necessary to IS plotwise because that game already had a pretty solid ending.

I've played Eternal Punishment on some bootlegged cd many years ago. I really enjoyed it back then since it was entirely different than the usual rpg's. Also, Katsuya is a bro and Baofu was very different for a party member than what one might expect. Also, Ulala gave my teenaged boner funny feelings.
I replayed the first Persona on the PsP a few years ago and while it was fun, it was not in the same ball park as Persona 2. How's Innocent Sin? Should I go for the remake?

technically they both do.
PS1 never got IS original but we got it on PSP much later. There is also an english patch
PS1 DID however get EP and in a twist of fate we did NOT get the PSP version of that. I heard there was a patch in the works. It is available on PSN as well
so yes both games are commercially available in english
