Heavy Nova is a terrible, TERRIBLE game. The controls are very unresponsive, the color pallet is drab, the level design is terrible, it is just a bad game all around. Sure the graphics aren't completely offensive and I can't remember the sound track to say if it was good, mediocre, or made your ears bleed, but what I played was dreadful.
It makes you appreciate what is considered a bad game this generation when you go back and play some of these games. A bad game this generation is mediocre to average compared to some of the stuff that you can play from the 16 bit era and earlier.

I guess "fun kind of shit" can be seen as a game that it's crap but you still enjoy it in someway. To me for example "Blade" and "Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M" (both for PS1) both were crap, controls and/or camera were a pain to deal with. However, during the time I was complete them, I had some good time. Once I finished both, I deleted them because I knew I won't play them ever again.

one of Beetlejuice's biggest flaws is it's too obtuse. once you understand what you're supposed to do it's playable., the music and graphics are passable. plus, you could at least tell the people that worked on the game made some sort of effort to make a good game. same thing with nearly all Rare's LJN games.

I loved the hell out of it as a kid because of the kick ass music and those awesome fighters. I went back to it and holy crap is it awful. Only two buttons used, one for jump the other for attack, all the characters control the same, when the screen scrolls it forces you to slide move against your will, the fights always devolve into the same strategy.
But what other game lets you play as a venus fly trap that kicks ass? I even made a saying for him "D.I.O., time to go!" It is one of those games you wished was good because it has an awesome concept of a bunch of crazy alien fighters pitted against one another in a battle of death.

Racing is my favourite genre but this piece of turd is unplayable, simple as that. When a racing game is unplayable even with a negCon you see some dev really fucked up while programming this.

Deadly Towers. My cousin used to have it and we would play it for weeks trying to figure out it's secrets. It was fucking terrible terrible. I do get a sense of nostalgia for it, but we never did even come close to beating it. There is a video out there of someone actually completing it.

The game is badly designed because the bosses do a lot of damage and to defeat them you have to figure out a strict pattern, the controls don't help either.
The dialogue is hilariously corny and you don't even know why the fuck you are doing what you ate are doing.

- code written in Laser BASIC instead of the Spectrum's built-in BASIC
- without compiling the BASIC to machine code you need to have a copy of Laser BASIC in memory for the game to run, so they illegally included Laser BASIC on the tape, a much more expensive program than this game
- has such amazing lines of code like "1 GOTO 2" with the line 2 not even existing
- graphics bug out if you move
- Without moving, your score just keeps going up, while you neither lose energy nor get killed by anything

I guess i understand now, but back when i had a Genesis i didn't even know Hokuto no Ken existed, and since the game gives no backstory at all, the dialogue was funny because it made no sense and you didn't even know why you were punching people.
That said, it's not a terrible game. As i mentioned before, it has it flaws, which can make it very frustrating, but it is playable.
