Is there a way to accurately tell if a game you bought is a reproduction?

Is there a way to accurately tell if a game you bought is a reproduction?

Obviously people are able to put romhacks and translations on a cart and sell them on ebay for $80 and of course that's a dead giveaway to anyone even remotely familiar with those games, but what about other games?

How do you tell if someone just popped the chips out of a copy of Lester the Unlikely and rewrote the chips and printed off a new label and called it Hagane?

unless you're a collector you shouldn't care

They usually look like the pic you posted. It's not hard to tell, but the best way to know is if it is ridiculously cheap compared to a real copy.

Idiotic response. This thread isn't for you, kid. Poor person detected.

Games that use this PCB type:
•Breath of Fire
•NBA Live '95
•Troy Aikman NFL Football

Wouldn't it be funny if it was a copy of BoF that died for a Zelda repro.

EPROMs have a little window in them used for erasing them. Unless you have a prototype there's no reason for your games to have EPROMs. If you do have a prototype do not remove the sticker from it, UV light messes up or erases the data.

These days it's become common for scummy people to replace the mask ROM chip with a NAND flash chip on a little breakout board. These are immediately obvious when you open the cartridge. There shouldn't be any small PCBs sticking off of the main PCB like pic related

1. Look closely at label, if you see any differences compared to original, then its mostly likely repro(either label itself or the whole thing)

2. Open it up, if it looks like pic related or weird, then its mostly likely repro, you can find videos/pictures someone opening any game via google

3. If you find someone selling hard-to-find or expensive game for much cheaper than they usually go for, its mostly likely repro or bootleg, especially if seller is from china or its sold on aliexpress or something like that

4. If its game thats Japan or other region exclusive(or japan+us) and description says/claims its japan/us/europe version(when such version doesn't exit) its mostly likely repro

You seem a little salty over old Capcom RPGs. Pic related.

He wasn't salty at all. He flat-out said it would be funny if that was the scenario.

>Is there a way
Sure. There are many things you can check. They range from looking for a bad print job on the label to testing the epoxy on the rom.
It's easy to tell if someone just popped the chips out of a copy of Lester the Unlikely and rewrote the chips. If they did you're living in an alternate reality where Nintendo used chips that can be rewritten.

>immediately obvious
Not when they put it in a legitimate looking package.
