Explain why you hate this console, /vr/

Atari released this and just kept developing the 2600. Instead of worrying about making good games for the 5200, they just kept developing 2600 games.

Fucking shot themselves.

It's the same reason that dollar coins don't catch on in the US. They never will if you keep on printing the dollar notes along with them.
>>
>>2852641
Also, the system didn't get the support it needed to thrive because people didn't understand upgrading consoles yet.

They thought "I have a VCR and a TV. I've had this TV for 20 years and this VCR for 10. Why would I suddenly buy a new video game console?"

There are plenty of great games on the 5200. Look at pacman 5200 vs 2600
>>
>>2852643
Plenty of people went from a pong clone to the 2600 when it came out.
>>
>>2852645
Phew, oh man. Pac-Man.
The one reason I'd buy a 5200 is for Pac-Man. Thank god it's on there.

>using Pong to Atari 2600 as a valid analogy
>>
>>2852649
It was just an example faggot. Think about misslr command, it had an AMAZING 5200 port due to analog controllers/trackballs
>>
>>2852630
world's most unreliable controller
>>
It was never sold here. Got a 7800 instead.

/vr/ hates Atari because we hate retro games. I'd wager the vast majority on here just want to talk about PS2 or DS gameing.

Because there are better options. I was interested in a 5200, but I got an Atari 130XE instead. it's smaller (if you don't use the floppy drive), and you can use a regular 1 button joystick or a Genesis controller rather than the 5200 controller or buying expensive after market controllers.

My only regret is that Rescue on Fractalus seems to run smoother on the 5200 than my floppy version on my 130XE. Maybe if I had the Cart version it'd run better.
>>
I don't hate it, it's unanimously agreed that it's superior to the 2600. It's Atari's fault for not supporting it.
>>
>Liking anything from Atari besides there PC's
>>
it has literally no purpose
>>
>>2852710
You would be wrong, those systems will neve set foot here, kid.
>>
>>2852630
The controllers were not designed well, not many 5200's were made, replacement parts are more expensive. Also, it was not backwards compatible like the 7800.
>>
I don't hate it, I just don't find anything on the atari systems appealing.

Didn't matter if it was graphically superior or not, that 2600 was cheaper, had games, and was easy to use. Also the 2600 is underrated here it has lots of great games
>>
>>2852630
I don't hate it, but I like 7800 better
5200 is gigantic and lacks backwards compatibility
>>
>>2852882
The 7800 is pretty awesome.

Ballblazer alone makes that machine worth owning.
>>
>>2852853
Like what? Not trying to be a shitter, just like what? I want some short comfy games to play, and Atari 2600 is admittedly pretty comfy

/vr/ please.

The REAL reason to dislike the 5200 is because literally any Atari 8-bit computer from a lowly Candy to a lovely XEGS is equal to or better than it in nearly every way.
>>
>>2853534
my 800xl agrees with you
>>
>>2853534
Of course the computers were better, the 5200 was modeled after their hardware but with stuff cut out to lower the price. The 5200 it was designed as a budget offering for a completely different market.
>>
>>2852630
I hate it because AVGN tells me too. What a shitload of fuck!
>>
>>2852630
diggin that cart art
>>
>>2852845
They will in /vr2k/
>>
I don't hate it, it just flopped because of a series of bad decisions. The analog sticks on the controllers weren't self-centering and were prone to malfunctions, the system was extremely massive, it didn't have very good software support, etc.
>>
>>2855331
Yes but it failed to appeal to that market and even though XE games should have been easy to port to 5200 they weren't. 85% of the 5200's library is also available on XE but only about 5% of the XE library is available on 5200 and they sell for about the same price in the current market.

Every time I make this argument I feel like a hypocrite for being too lazy to get my 5200 collection sold off and converted to XE.

>>2852630
I love everything Atari because I'm a weird fanboy. The trackball is amazing. The joysticks are a giant pain in the ass though.
