So I have this old PC sitting around, and I'm installing Windows Server 2008 R2 on it.
What I think I'm going to do is host some old games on it. So far my list is:
Unreal (Coop, but also maybe DM)
South Park FPS DM (The MP was actually a lot of fun)
Gunman Chronicles DM
Votager Elite Force DM
AVP2 (not sure this is technically retro, but whatever)
Jedi Knight (coop? DM? I dunno)
Battlezone 2 (maybe)
Descent
Blood or Blood 2 maybe...
Terminal Velocity
Big Red Racing
And maybe some suggestions? I dunno.
I've never set up a server like this before, so if anyone has any links on how to go about it that'd be nice (plan is to utilize it in our home network as well, for storage). Otherwise I'm going to have to plow through this blind.
AVP2 isn't retro and has a kinda weird multiplayer since way too many weapons have a homing function

Thanks. I'm trying to get unreal gold 227i set up right now since I'm a bit more familiar with it and work from there, but my friend on the east coast isn't responding to help me test it.
Then I'll install tribes 2, and set up a virtual machine for blood/whatever sometime down the line. Dos games with no modern ports might be a bit much though. We'll see how it goes, and how many players my connection will take before bogging down to unplayable levels.

Got a server up titled VRTROOPERS. Just Unreal Gold coop. What I think I'm going to do is set it up to run a different game either every day, or every week. And cycle that way...
Next I suppose I'll look into setting up a Tribes 2 game... Try to get that sorted out. Then maybe something more obscure like the South Park FPS (haven't played it since I was a kid, but I remember the multiplayer being fun, even if the single player sucked pretty hard)

I'll look into this. Could be good. In my experience dos multiplayer games are more prone to desync and require more supervision, but I'll give it a go. Could be fun on a bun.
Speaking of, does anyone know of other obscure retro games that have dedicated servers?

Yeah. Forgot about that when I posted. Downloaded it, but it does not seem to want to run on my machine at all for some reason. Looking into it. Fuh.
