If you can survive more than 30 seconds without being shot down it feels like your traveling at breakneck speeds

This, Even F-Zero and Sonic can't really compare to the sense of speed you get with After Burner.
only 325kph but it felt fucking fast

You kidding? It had to be the 90's Cruisin' games for me. Managing to make it through blocks and blocks and blocks of city space? Speeding around the moon? Oh, maybe you forgot driving over the GREAT WALL OF CHINA IN 5 MINUTES.
Yeah, those games were fast, and you had to be too.

Crazy Cars! Loved this shit back then. Still have it on my ROMs folder for when I feel like playing some racing games.

8-16 bit platformers loved to exaggerate jumping abilities for some reason.
8-16 bit fighting games loved to exaggerate stamina and the ability to handle punches for some reason.
I'm sensing a pattern here.It's fun

>Thought E1 Racer was actually pretty mediocre
D-Don't hurt me...

E1 racer is an odd beast. It does seem pretty simple when you just race in it, because it kind of is. The interesting bit comes when you deal with the boost function. It's theoretically unlimited, but causes engine damage. As a result, in order to be the fastest, the player is carefully applying the boost, constantly riding the threshold to engine destruction. In a way it's a pretty fundamental gameplay aspect. Suddently it's not about just going fast and cutting corners anymore, it's about doing all that while taming and spurring a machine that has way too much power for its own good. It starts to become a much more involved, much more raw experience, if you give in to that immersion.
With that said, most of the fictional tracks were boring as fuck, very generic and random. And let's not forget is has the absolutely terrible ice tracks, with "slippery" surfaces. That's a pretty unforgivable sin for an anti grav racer.
However, if you have even a casual interest in racing, you owe yourself to race the Boonta Eve Classic, even if you have to cheat to bypass the boring bits of the game. The track is an extremely faithful and involving recreation of the movie track, and frankly, the whole game is nothing but a preparation for it.
