ITT: Games that should have had a true sequel.

Spiritual successors and spin offs don't count.

Honestly not a troll response. SMB2 has always been my favorite in the series. Whether it was SMB2-2 or Doki Doki 2 I don't care, but I'd have loved a direct sequel.

Alundra was decent.

An actual sequel to Quake 1.

This

SMB2 was serious business where I come from, for a nintendo title anyway. SMB3 was barely a blip on the radar as Sega was doing what nintendcouldn't by that time.
>>
>>2826415
The game is so long you might as well consider the second half a sequel. Also fuck Working Designs.

Oh yeah !!
Good to see /vr/os with taste.
I dunno why but it's my favorite 2D Mario

Shit is comfy as fuck !

nope, I liked it too.

Alundra would've won me over if it wasn't for the frustrating precarious jumping that required absolute precision and accuracy. Also the story was lukewarm and the protagonist had no personality.

I would love for them to revisit the world and gameplay ideas of SMB2, maybe for one of those New Super Mario titles for the DS/3DS.

Wouldn't it be great to chuck turnips at Shyguys again? Or even something so bold as pulling up a plant, and it turns out to be something insane like a Bowow on a chain and it goes all over the place, dragging you with it, killing enemies all over the screen.

In my opinion, Super Mario USA is a better videogame than the original Japanese 'Lost Levels'

>>2826440
That too. I liked Quake 2, but I would love to see what Quake 1 would have been like if the final concept for it had time to be developed more.
>>
>>2826472
Whaaat? when Sega was busy fucking themselves with a rusty screwdriver, WD was bringing over stellar games for their systems. Shit on their translations, all you want, but Lunar, Arc the Lad, and Magic Knight Rayearth never would have hit the US, if not for them.

also, those full color manuals with stickers and glossy paper! And special edition game versions, before that was even a thing!
>>
>>2827767

smb2 was always a personal favorite. the different mechanics & enemies, the atmosphere, and the creativity. it's excellent.

it's not a sequel, but legend of the blob bros 2, despite it's goofy gimmick, is a well crafted romhack.
>>
>>2826420
It's an intersting if flawed game and I'm sad it had little influence on the main series, but just the right amount on Yoshi's Island. I wonder how that game would be without shy guys.
>>
This is literally the only game I quit as a kid because it was too hard. I spent days in the ice temple trying to figure out the puzzle but I just couldn't do it.

Bit ashamed to admit it desu.
>>
>>2830364
I had to use a guide for a large chunk of Alundra and I'm a grown ass man.

They would have come over, you just would have to wait longer for a fan translation. Full color manuals were the norm around that time, and I could do without the weeaboo trinkets. Their awful localization job and tampering with the difficulty level is an insult.

Right because every game gets fan translated. Oh wait, no they don't. And the ones that do come ten years after the fact

I didn't say every game does, but any game that's worth translating usually gets one. I'm pretty sure Alundra would be. And yes it would take awhile, hence the bit about waiting longer.

I thought the whole precision jumping aspect was pretty neat. As for the story and the MC, while I do agree that it was jarring that the MC didn't have much personality, I kinda disagree with you on the story; while it does have its flaws, I did quite like how more and more twisted shit got overtime and the way the characters reacted to it.

I want a 2D Jazz 3

>tfw Psygnosis did Europe's localisation

I've played both the PAL and NTSC versions of the game and I will say Psygnosis did a better job than WD even though it was thanks to WD that Alundra got translated in the first place.

That being said, pic related, I'm hunting for all the different cases and discs that WD printed
>>
>>2837279
Is it worth playing the PAL version over the NTSC version?

Are there any gameplay differences in the PAL version?

I know Working Designs nerfed most enemies HP which is a godsend considering how long it takes to kill some basic enemies.

Nobody has said Zelda II yet? I guess I'll be the first.

I loved this game becuase the gameplay was fast paced and exciting, the dungeon desine was great and the graphics were satisfying at the time. For the enormous number of times it was ported to differemt consoles, would have been nice to see a sequal or remake.

If you want bit more of a challenge especially with the earlier weapons yes, other than that and a bit of difference with the speech, there's really no point

I still have fond memories of playing this game for the first time at the age of 10, and getting my ass kicked because my brain was turned to mush by other JRPGs where the biggest strategy was "use lightning on mechanical foes"

It was the very first ghost that made me rage because I couldn't beat him
Beat the game 30 times since then
>>
>>2837890
Same here, although I was 18 at the team, got my ass handed to me and didn't have a good time, so it was left on the shelve for a couple of months. But started again, thinking I must be doing something wrong, this time with the help of an online faq at gamefaqs with a 56k modem. And I'm still eternally grateful to the guy that made that(I still remember the quality of the faq, it was made by someone named after a piece of armor in the game, Spangenhelm maybe? He's a here in any case) Must have finished it at least 8 times since then.

For the time he'd be waiting for a person to finish, he could already be fluent in Japanese himself.

Anyway, you also forget instances where games are ignored for localization for retarded reasons. Like any one of the Saturn's sprite based RPGs.

An actual sequel to Final Fight. The SNES sequels count don't count and the later 3D ones (Revenge and Streetwise) kinda missed the point completely.
