So, somebody remind me about this Winter contest that is currently underway.
>>2819852
I consider the greatest challenge of this one to just make icy blue not look like shit
I've been trawling NED for mountain crag-like scenery, but nothing has really fit.
>tfw /vr/ct is slowly dying
don't leave me bros, I love you guys
pic is a random screenshot I took a while back
>all those prebuilts
I am ashamed
>>2820134
I've been neglecting these threads for a long time but I promise I will return very soon
/vr/ct will never die
>>2820134
RCT threads never go away permanently they just go on hiatus randomly.
>>2820134
>all these toilets
for what purpose
>>2820653
Have you ever needed a shit but too autistic to go because someone else is in there? That might not be the case in Anon's park.
I like looping coasters
>>2820134
We'll live, there've been slow times before. But on this note, we need to do something about these lazy ass OPs. Just hiding away everything in a pastebin, including the collab documents and other stuff that keep the thread going, is literally killing activity.
>>2820779
The OP image is pretty shit too.
>>2820781
Well, I don't think that's as big of a problem. But I did like it when we had a 2 post OP usually consisting of one RCT image and one real coaster image.
These are what I have for the contest so far. I think I missed one, please post it again.
Inside 'anon 1' folder is the one anon who posted 3 coasters, Santa's Sleigh, Sub Zero and The Thaw. I believe someone else has done a coaster called Santa's Sleigh which I think I missed.
Fug, post your favorite collab and maybe we'll get a new one going.
>>2820801
>stuff built outside of the square
>>2820802
The supports are fine. The helix, would probably have been better without it.
>>2820134
There's always been slow periods or times where we were all missing. I'm an infrequent regular, visiting every 4-8 months. I heard BlueBalled stopped posting last time I was here. Is that still the case?
I haven't played RCT2 in 10 years.
Can somebody give me tips for coaster design?
>>2820868
Don't build it higher than you need to. A common newbie mistake (way more common than LOL BANK YOUR TURNS) is building a super high and short coaster. Also, remember to bank your turns.
And post some images of what you've built and we'll look at it.
>>2820868
bank your turns.
>>2820868
Scenery is important. It can make a shit looking coaster far better. Realism elements like fencing can help, too.
so how about this?
>>2820897
Not bad. You should have enough momentum for something more than just one turnaround at the end and I don't think you need that long break runs but it's mostly personal preference.
>>2820897
Kinda boring. Needs more ramps and shit.
>>2820897
String someone tossed on the floor/10
>>2820910
>using ign rating
>>2820897
You seem to be good enough at designing coasters. Inspired by your coaster, this is how I built it. Then there's scenery which is always important if you want to build a really good coaster.
>>2820779
>>2820787
I think there were complaints about our OPs taking up to much space.
>>2821080
By other posters on /vr/? I feel like that could be solved. Either by having 3 posts or by dividing stuff among pastebins to reduce size, like having one exclusively for downloads for example. And keeping the most important links, collab document, OpenRCT, the Wiki for example, in the post itself.
>>2821080
link to more story about that coaster?
>>2821125
I'll do that once this one's getting closer to death.
>>2821080
Anon who compiled the original pastebin here: I did that because when I attempted to start a thread one time, it came up with a spam warning. I wasn't sure which part of the post tripped it, so I stuffed all in that pastebin.
In hindsight, that probably wasn't a good idea.

>>tfw /vr/ct is slowly dying
>don't leave me bros, I love you guys
Don't worry. Once Roller Coaster Tycoon World comes out there will be a whole new influx of people.
>>2820779
There was a link to something in the old OP which triggered the spam filter.
>>2820790
I did, but it wasn't a contest entry.
>I believe someone else has done a coaster called Santa's Sleigh
I think I went a bit overboard on my contest entry. It's become something like christmas bobsleigh spaghetti. It's also technically two coasters, but it used to be a single entity, though it turned out to be so bloody long, it couldn't get a good rating anymore.
Probably not that bad for a first time entry, anyway.
>>2822393
Here's with stats. Had to make a seperate picture, as the stat boxes kept getting in the way of the coasters.
I think I am done with this thing.
>>2820678
That looks pretty cool dude

How many screen-shots did you fuse to create that? Did you know you can simply do a Giant screen-shot in ORCT2?
I just found my old RCT1 CD which I haven't seen in about ten years.
Today is a good day.
Rate my duellers. They stay together except for the last turn where i got too lazy to keep them together.
Start of a new attempt. I just discovered these cozy snow-covered roofs with ice picks.
>>2822486

>>2822487
>a woodie in the snow
>>2822486

>>2822481
Just 2. Giants are a pain to work with and end up being like 8mb large. It's easier to just fuse 2 or 3 images together imo.
>>2822542
You know you could just crop from a giant one?
>>2822440
Awesome.
>>2822468
no? okay then,
>>2822487
Progress... I might make it bigger or something
rate and hate
>>2822694
Looks good, might make the red or green light blue or white too make it look like there's ice/snow on the coaster. Might make it blend in a little more.
>>2822401
I've made some small improvements while I was at it and only converted the BMPs from the ingame screenshots to PNGs this time. Hopefully the quality will now be up to standard.
>>2822832
And once more with the stats.
I'm still kind of sad I couldn't manage to build a nice looking station building with all that track in the way, but hopefully the nice stats make up for that.
>>2822858
There's nothing wrong with it, even when loaded. The only things that give me trouble are the queue times and the constant reminders that the trains haven't made it back to their respective stations yet.
Have you praised the god of modern coasters yet today?
>>2823219
Speaking of Herr Schwarzkopf, Magic Mountain is finally removing the godawful shoulder restraints on Revolution.
I´ll enter this 13x13 coaster for the contest. Initially wanted it to be 10x10 but i started a bit too high for that.

>>2824781

>>2824781
You know it's pretty difficult to get a decent intensity to excitement ratio on a woodie, right?
>>2824853
I know. Just fucking around because there's 0.02 difference in rating.
Is there any reason not to get the Steam version of RCT2?
>>2824910
If you don't have anything against Steam, not really.
>>2824916
Cool. Does OpenRCT work with it? I am not using it now because it tends to crash, often but still.
Im not sure why I care since its only $3 and honestly I would pay $3 just for Steam to do screenshots for me
>>2824927
Steam is literally just a downloader for RCT2, you don't even need to start Steam to run it and there's no DRM or anything. Works with OpenRCT.
>>2824927
https://openrct2.com/download-demo
I want something the feels like skiing down a slope, but I seem to be more apt at making pattern-bound rollercoaster than ones that actually would be fun to ride.
>>2824947
It would be better if it was a mini bike ride but those are limited to like 4mph I think,
>>2824947
Maybe a waterslide sunk 1 level into the cliff with steeplechase trains?
Could have the exit at the bottom and entrance at the top.
>>2825065
>>2825738
Steeplechase would be fun. Might be more akin to pic related. However also absolutely scary.
>>2826242
It's loads of fun. Alpine coasters, especially the ones that don't limit speed, are a real thrill. In a regular coaster everything is safe. But if you fuck around on one of these alpine coasters/slides you jut wipe out and get rekt. I was on one that had a plastic track, and it started raining a little. Brakes didn't really work because of the wet track, almost shit my pants. Still was awesome.
Is it a LIM? Is it a Hyper? No! It's a Corkscrew!
>>2826304
And then there's this fucker here.
>>2826304
it is a hyper you lying nigger i can see the train icon
>>2826309
In that scenario, the game gave me the Corkscrew Coaster, but without the Corkscrew trains. At the beginning it only gave me the HyperCoaster trains. The Corkscrew trains where unlocked some time after finishing that coaster.
>>2826307
>inb4 shit lift
Well yeah, that is a really shitty lift.
>>2826315
I know and I'm not proud of it. But couldn't think of another way of doing it since the terrain, the tram and the woody where in the way.

>>2826380
I think there's like 3 people in /vr/ who like RCT 3. I mean, it's like 12 years old now so I think it'd be fine to post it.
>>2826259
>Breaking
I've never been on one that required that exept to avoid hitting people from behind or getting yourself wedged under some foam blocks at the end. We don't have plastic or concrete tracks here though.
Also pic related exists. Can't derail that
>>2826640
The one in your picture brakes itself when the car moves too fast. The most boring kind of alpine coaster imo
>>2826653
>brakes itself
That sucks. The one I rode didn't.
So OpenRCT have fixed Launched Freefall ratings. I don't know what to feel about this, feels like the end of an era.Nice.
>>2826908
what ratings?
>>2826908
>Feature: Option to scale game display for better compatibility with high DPI screens
Hoooooooray.
>>2826917
When using the freefall mode the ratings are still determined from launch speed. The height of the tower doesn't matter.

>>2828220

>>2830394
Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, then.
>>2830401
Of course. I made it look intentionally ugly. It's supposed to be a meteor site/industrial dump but I got bored halfway through.
>>2830373
What makes a coaster a Vekoma-like coaster? I don't know that much about coaster.
>>2830408
I believe corkscrew coasters. It's either the track style or the train style, not sure desu.
>>2830408
Vekoma is a former company who built coasters. The quite famous corkscrew model was built by the two companies Arrow and Vekoma.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vekoma
>>2830445
>former company
You wish.
>>2830460
Oh fuck, is it Arrow that bankrupted?
>>2830467
Yes.
Wasn't it because they got sued by Six Flags over X?
>>2830445
I know that Vekoma is a coaster builder company, just like Arrow and Togo. What I don't know is what differentiates a Vekoma from an Arrow and how to build look-alikes in RCT.
Its not a Vekoma, but I made a nice little Arrow a while back. I made in playing the Radiation World scenario, otherwise it'd just be called Demon probably. Inspired mostly by Carolina Cyclone.
Would anyone be up for a classic Arrow/Vekoma collab? Standard 2x2 collab, only Corkscrews, SLCs, (Compact Inverted), Boomerangs (Inverted Shuttle) and Flying Vekomas(Lay-down Coaster). And possibly a Hypercoaster, I guess.
>>2830591

>>2831020
speaking of collabs, is that desert collab ever happening?
>>2832065
A B&M would typically be a big coaster from the Twister family, a Flying Coaster, Dive Coaster and probably a couple of others. If you want to build them realistic, watch a couple of POVs on Youtube and try to build something similar, you can always post them here in /vr/ct and ask for critique.
>>2832487
>Dragon Khan and Shambala
God how do I love those two. (even tho it may be just because that's the only serious park I've ever been to)
I've read the wikipedia page on "Roller coaster elements" and tried my luck at some of the things there mentioned. Pic related is the result of it. The "Norwegian loop" is ugly as shit, but functional. Also, I don't get the difference between "Batwing" and "Cobra roll".
>>2832536
In RCT terms, a cobra roll is half loop> half corkscrew> half corkscrew> half loop. A batwing is half corkscrew> half loop> half loop> half corkscrow.
>>2832536
cobra roll on the left, batwing on the right
>>2832536
Booster hills are quite rare but they do exist. I usually spread out the boosters over the whole hill to make it look more even. Your coaster looks good, you could probably have use longer break runs to make the slowdown more gentle. Also, always post stats :)
>>2832546
Will try that tomorrow.
Didn't post stats cause they where nothing out of this world. E:7 with the normal Twister trains. 7.5 with the floor-less ones. Intensity was over 8.
And I know Booster hills are not common, but wanted to try one.
>>2832162

How do I get people to keep going on my rides? They stay really busy at first but after a few minutes people stop coming to them. They just all stay on the paths and complain about how its too crowded.
>>2836185
Peeps do lose interest over time. A new and flashy ride will draw more people and they will pay more.
>>2836194

I think this has been mentioned here before, but I just came back from watching The Thing again and its a great concept. How to communicate it in RCT is another matter, and I don't have the energy to mess around with prototyping scenery at the moment.
Maybe a burning ruined facility with a chaotic coaster snaking through at high speed.
>>2836648
What about several different coasters running through the same facility to mimic the Thing's ability to transform?

Just played a few hours of OpenRCT2's multiplayer with a friend today. With some kind of autosave-and-reload function it'd be very playable. We found just manually saving and reloading every 5 minutes on the host was quick enough to keep the game in sync long enough to make significant progress.

>>2840924
This looks excellent, I love the themeing.
When will real skiing have loops?
I haven't played RCT in a while and I forget, what prices should you set for gentle/thrill rides and rollcoasters again? I used to have a system for it but I've forgotten.
>>2840936
For every single ride in the game guests will pay up to the excitement rating of the ride. For example, a 2.3 excitement gentle ride will go for a max of $2.30 a ticket, though it is usually best to make the price 10c less than the excitement rating, as sometimes guests will complain.
Launched freefalls scale the maximum ride price to their intensity. Popular thrill rides such as go karts and motion sims can be jewed for almost double their excitement (to a certain limit) until their popularity fades
>>2840954
not true, I have gotten away with charging $10+ on E8 coasters
