I know that PS1 controllers work on PS2s and that PS2 controllers work on PS1s.
I've heard that the Atari 2600, master system and genesis are all compatible with each other's controllers. Does this also extend to light guns as well?
What about Atari 5200 and 7800?

Genesis controllers work on Master System, 7800, Atari computers, Commodore computers, and the 2600. The start button can theoretically damage some of the one-button joystick machines though so for that reason a Master System or 7800 gamepad is a nice modern-type controller to use on all those systems other than Genesis.
The 5200 has a whack-ass proprietary controller that's basically the worst thing ever. Unless you're playing Space Dungeon you'll be better off using any other controller be it one of the analog Wicos like in OPs pic, the Coin Controls digital stick, the trackball, or a Master Controller adapter. Honestly though you should probably just get an Atari 8-bit computer like an XEGS if you're thinking about getting a 5200 as it has a much bigger library that includes like 90% that of the 5200.

They have the same 9pin controller ports as the Genesis,
