Let's get us a beta thread going.

Post that beta info and screenshots.
Seriously thought, beta info is always so intriguing and also disappointing ;_;

things you can't have always seem better, somehow

When it was stilled called Zelda 64, Link was able to slash to the side while running, but would hold his ground upon hitting an enemy (still turning to follow the movement of enemy), where he would enter a dynamic attack pattern. This is a combination of The Wind Waker's dynamic swings (when Link does a twirl jump or double-hands his sword, a move pulled from the OoT beta with the bigger sword scene against Stalfos) and Twilight Princess' ability to swing while running.

I always thought this was the coolest thing, and that we missed out. But thinking about it deeply, it'a not a big deal and it doesn't really fit the game's more almost turn-based combat against enemies that use weapons.

NOW, the original Temple of Time exterior angle shot, and the ultrarealistic render of Death Mountain where you can see the shadow left by the ring plume. THAT I want back in the game.

Is this newly surfaced footage? I thought I know all about many, many beta elements of the game, but I don't recall seeing that alternate angle of the Temple of Time.

That spindash over water thing could have been a good mechanic, a shame they didn't implement it (I guess running over water on Hydrocity is similar, but not quite the same, I imagine you would be able to bump over water quickly by timing your jumps properly, could have been fun)

same, never saw that before. Also ALTTP/LA shield and sword on the game logo

actually I stand corrected, it's very early but I don't know if you can count the Ultra 64 demo that Nintendo showed off before the N64 was even released, but it's just a tech demo in my opinion

Also funny to see brown-haired Link from Zelda 1 and 2

>>2814671
The game would be broken as fuck. Link would easily be able to get into the Spirit Temple, Forest Temple, and many other places by just jumping over barriers, doing wall-jumps, and other acrobatics

2 rocks stop you from going to Zora's domain, you'd be able to get in as soon as you learned Zelda's Lullaby.

You could easily get into Gerudo Valley by jumping over the gap in the bridge

That's an iron knuckle, similar enemy but very different

Iron knuckles have thicker armor, no shield, and carry heavy axes instead of swords.

Darknuts later did appear in Wind Waker and Twilight Princess
>>
>>2814737
They were called Iron Knuckles iirc, but they were Darknuts in nature, but were more statuary guardians versus the aggressors that Darknuts are.

A Nintendo Power article about Doom 64 before it's release showed off a series of images from an Aztec-like pyramid level. The game also had a different story at this point, instead of being sent to an abandoned research station you would start the game as a marine who managed to escape a demon prison.

I find it interesting that in Japan Iron Knuckles and Dark Nuts are the same thing (known as tartknuckles), yet different in America for unknown reasons. It would make some sense if they could be distinguished.

Iron Knuckles - the soulless soldiers of stone that are activating by attacks, like Armos.
Dark Nuts - enemy warriors in suits.

But then "Darkhammer" throws fuel on the fire, because he's known as 'Hammer Knuckle' in Japan, and is both inert until awakened, and a baddie in armor.
>>
File: Guma.png (197 KB, 350x393) Image search: [Google]
Guma.png
197 KB, 350x393
To make matters more convoluted, he's based on a Doomknocker, a.k.a. Hell Knocker in JP. A bulky mace throwing enemy, who shares the prefix "Hell" with another enemy named "Hell Guma," who is the only enemy in Zelda II to not have artwork (this is the closest to official depiction and its from a guide) but looks just like the concept art for the creature inside of Darkhammer.

But get this, the reason I say Hell Guma has no artwork is because the alleged art doesn't match him but does fit for another enemy creatively dubbed "Gooma," as he's known in America under a made-up name. That's because he doesn't exist in Japan! In there the level 5 boss is a rematch with Helmethead. That means Gooma, the mace-wielding giant, must have been planned at the time, but was not finished or was considered too easy to fit as the boss for JP.
>>
File: 05b-gooma.png (139 KB, 294x367) Image search: [Google]
05b-gooma.png
139 KB, 294x367
But if "Guma" is his actual canon name, as indicated by NoA's one commendable attempt to retain the original canon (possibly in repentance for butchering Iron Knuckles), and the 'Guma' in "Hell Guma" thus is a placeholder for an unknown intended name, then Darkhammer is a combination of all three: Hell Knocker's armor, Hell Guma's body, and GUMA's ball and chain.

But the real mystery, all of this is only possible to conjecture because Nintendo of America retained the boss. If they hadn't then this connection would be lost, and Hell 'Guma' and Knocker would be unrelatable to DarkHammer besides being enemies with maces. So if the west's Zelda II is more canon... then does that mean Zelda 1's renaming is canon?

For thoroughness' sake, here is the enemy of the hour. "Gooma," or as he should be known, "Guma."

>>
>>2814865

pretty sweet, are these graphics in the final game still? at least in the data?
>>
>>2815086
>do you guys think some of the beta versions will ever get leaked?

Honestly I'm surprised it hasn't leaked yet

Stranger things have happened

It was more surprising that a leak of Starfox 2 was found because Nintendo usually keeps everything very secure until they're ready to release it.

Somebody somewhere must have a Duke Nukem forever beta stored in a forgotten hard drive
>>
>>2815109

Seriously, how has none of it leaked yet? It was in development for so long and so many different people must have had their hands on the game over the years. Maybe it's because there's not much of a demand.

It's way more common to hear people discussing Nintendo related betas than the various DNF betas.
>>
>>2815089
Nothing like the pyramids are in the final game, although I don't know if they're hidden in the code. I wish I could find scans of the Nintendo Power issue, there's a lot more pictures and information about it. Another interesting thing is that Doom 64 started as a project called "The Absolution," a game that as far as we know wasn't originally related to Doom. There was also a multiplayer-based sequel planned but it was cancelled very early on.

http://www.unseen64.net/tag/doom/
>>
>>2815212
Just going by a random youtube comment for the DNF 2001 trailer, most of the scenes in it were just prerendered bullshots. So there may not be a playable game hidden anywhere. Most likely all there is to it is an engine in the alpha stage.
>>
>>2814501
I think I've seen a video once of somebody walking around that town using gameshark cheats or something on one of the versions of OoT, so it's possible it's still left in there but unused or something.

That or the person had reconstructed it and inserted it into a ROM.

Plus the project is also dead.

Zeth the leader of the project did little to nothing to moderate the team, not to mention apparently he hogged all the donation money to himself.

basically he acted like a greedy scumbag and eventually the team just got into a fight and disbanded.

so yeah unfortunately it's dead jim... the project looked pretty neat but, it's gone.
