Marshall Law master race.
>>
The only non-smash Fighter I've *ever* been good with was Killer Instinct using Cinder. Easiest combo ever, >>Y then keep pressing > and Y. Strings into a 20+ hit combo, only doing that.
>>
>>2790934
I hate the perception that Fighters suck cause there's too many combos. If I spend half an hour to an hour in practice mode with one character I can get at least 75% of the command list memorized.
>>
>>2790934
>Easiest combo ever, >>Y then keep pressing > and Y. Strings into a 20+ hit combo, only doing that,

I'm going to go try that out.
>>
>>2790934
Baek from Tekken is kinda like that. Button mash X and O and you can do like a 10 hit combo. Only Tekken character Ive ever thought was actually cheap.
>>
>>2790934
>>2790938
Well, you weren't kidding. It's a little different in the arcade, but >>MP, MP, >>MP and then MP again always seems to get you a decent 7 or 8 hit combo. I love learning about details like that.

Now I'm going to see if I can hack it to play as the boss version of Eyedol.
>>
>>2790956

Yeah, good stuff. I never bought KI2 because Cinder got cut, haha. So salty for my combo.

Spinal has a similar one. Rushes with his shield and then keeps hitting. >> Y or something like that, again.

It's not REALLY good (like it doesn't stand a chance against Capcom or SNK games), but it's a decent game.

It has an interesting VS mode with some customization, a nice roster (all the senshi + outer senshi) and nice looking stages and backgrounds, it's a good deal if you like SM.
>>
>>2790934
I heard on /vr/ they made Cinder intentionally overpowered to help out beginners. Wonder how true is that.
>>
fighters are a shit genre for autists who never accomplished anything in life, no one past 20 has time or friends to get good at them
>>
>>2791193
Or maybe you just don't have any friends to play with. My bros and I have been having Tekken matches since we were kids. And it's not like you have to play for 10 years to get good at them, you must just be really bad at fighting games.

I grew up with SFII Turbo on SNES, mained Vega/Ken I guess. Playing the HD Remake on the 360 shows I have lost all the years of skill I had made, that's for sure.

3rd Strike has probably the biggest population of active players for /vr/ fighters. FightCade is always bustlin with dudes ready to knock each other out.

It's like a weird 6th sense, once I pretty much dropped every fighter out there except 3s, I can pick up where I leave off, even months at a time, and not really feel any need to "shake off rust" or whatever other bullshit excuse niggas use to explain away loses.

I spent some cash padhacking my arcade stick to support PS4 and it's been agonizing waiting for SFV to drop.

Pray for Death, which was so bad you'd pray for a better PC fighting game.

I was pleasantly surprised when /vr/ started that I wasn't the only one who played OMF 2097 and that it was nowhere near as niche as I had assumed. It's fun when every fighter is completely unbalanced - the Fist of the North Star fighting game from the 2000s was like that, too.

I think King of Figthers is the best retro series. I like most of the cast all the way from '94 to '02, but my go to main team when I really want to win it is Athena, Iori and Kim. Athena especially is one of my all time favorite characters in any fighter.

Mortal Kombat didn't age well at all, but I played the heck out of it as a teenager and Sub Zero and Mileena were always best.

Street Fighter has never been a favorite. But when I do, usually go back and forth between Dan and Sagat. Sagat because he's awesome and Dan because he sucks but feels like a combo of Ryo and Robert and when I can eek out a win with him it's always fun.
>>
>>2793541
In the newer Street Fighters they actually upgraded Dan quite a bit. I like his hadoukens and kicks better than Ken and Ryu.
>>
>>2793541

Any Eddy player who uses helicopter always goes into slippery kick. Sometimes unintentionally, which is where you get your guaranteed combo off parrying, or possibly a combo off low block in the case of T3 where low parties aren't universal. Knowing that it's coming is easy anyways since it's the fastest move that comes out of handstand. Once you've seen Eddy a few times, he just gets more and more predicable.

But yeah, TTT2 every day.

Combos should be toned down for fighters. Samurai Shodown 1 had the best approach to combos where there were only a few per character and the gameplay was almost 100% about fundamentals are who could react the quickest.

I agree. It's good to have combos if they're sufficiently tricky to pull off, but when they get over 5 hits and taking more than 10-15% of a health bar it makes the game both too reliant on them and reduces the number of back and forths you'll get in a match. Those fundamentals, tradeoffs and footsies being the most interesting parts I like to see more of that.

One thing I found interesting about Paul from Tekken is that he's the only one to not lose when facing a Mishima. According to the Tekken story Mishima's basically fuck up every non-Mishima in the game. In Tekken 1 Paul actually tied with Kazyua though. Paul viewed Kazuya as his main rival and Kuma basically beat Paul before he could face Kazuya starting the rivalry between Kuma. This is all what Ive heard from Tekken story. Idk thought it was interesting how Paul is the strongest non-Mishima in the game story wise.
>>
>>2800587
Paul also beat Ogre, an ancient fighting God, and claimed the Tekken title in Tekken 3 but he walked away before Ogre turned into True Ogre who Jin then killed taking the title away from Paul.

>>2800593

This is pretty much proof that his deathfist will destroy everything and everyone.

>>2800183

If my experience with fighting him with later Soul Calibur games is anything, bad Kilik players will just try to abuse his long-reaching attacks (usually the lunge, his B,B, and some of his pokes) which you can easily sidestep. Remembering that, I love that within my circle of friends it's become a running gag to know a certain pattern that bad Kilik players go for so much, it's burned into our brains.

Also, like that other anon said he had a son who carried on his Bo Staff style in SCV, and he's there as the new Edgemaster of sorts.

>>2799275

I wish I could find a certain set of SSVSP matches where it really boiled down to patient spacing and capitalizing on huge openings. There was a beastly Shizumaru player who would find ways to land the charged attack and instantly win a round, and then you have dumb stuff like Rera mirrors where they ride the wolf and go fuck around the whole round.

>>2799345

Does Fightcade support Fight Fever? I'd say Karnov's Revenge but sometimes it's rather populated there and there's some players who will wreck your shit.

Bushido Blade was so damn amazing. I really with it had become the model for 3D fighters rather than VF and Tekken.
>>
>>2801358

There's a deep amount of breadth to the combat of VF and Tekken, such that Bushido Blade feels like you're only dipping your toe.

>>2800737
>KoF:Kyo just Kyo forever

>>
>>2801373
>There's a deep amount of breadth to the combat of VF and Tekken, such that Bushido Blade feels like you're only dipping your toe.

I totally agree, Bushido Blade is far from perfect. But what I mean is that I wish that free roaming style where even a single well placed strike could be deadly had caught on more.

3D fighters as they are now are great, no question there. But they're also basically 2D fighters with the added depth of moving in 3D around the fighting area. Bushido Blade felt very different though, and I would have loved to see more games in that style improved and iterated on. BB itself doesn't have a ton of depth, but there's room for it.
>>

But spacing is absolutely an issue in 3D fighters. I think you might be conflating the infinite background stages in Tekken with the entirety of 3D fighters.

Yeah, when the arenas are empty and boundless, they aren't anything more than a 2D stage with some dodge moves, but ever since 4, Tekken has had finite stages, and populated with obstacles, and now ledges and stage transitions. VF always had spacing considerations with the rings being finite and falling out of them was an instant loss condition. In these cases, being in the wrong area and taking an attack leads to additional punishment

We had those. It was called Soul Calibur 4 and it was awful.

I didn't mean to imply it wasn't. I don't disagree with anything you're saying there.

Maybe I didn't describe it very well, but playing Bushido Blade and then playing Tekken, VF or SC you can tell that they're very different. That's really all I'm talking about. That I wish more games like Bushido Blade got made and that style of game became it's own sub genre.

That's sort of what I mean, something like that wouldn't make sense in a traditional fighting game. I didn't play SCIV, but I can imagine it wouldn't have worked well. But it was a key part of Bushido Blade's design and although it didn't work perfectly I've always thought it was really interesting.

>I really with it had become the model for 3D fighters rather than VF and Tekken.
i wouldn't go that far but it would be nice to get an unorthodox 3d fighter once in a while

it would be nice to have new 3d fighting games period...

Totally. I didn't really mean that I wished Tekken and the like didn't exist, but that Bushido Blade had also influenced a series of games as well.
