>Why did the janitor delete my thread and leave that shit waifu thread, a thread about an amplifier board or some shit, and exclusively shitposting/meme threads edition
Grab some hot cocoa, warm milk, a beer, some whiskey, whatever lights a gentle campfire in your heart, and get comfy
Just got home from a full day of work and school, started up some Super Metroid (lost as fuck in Maridia), comfy levels rising. Flashcarts are great.
What are you guys playing?
What are your go-to comfy games?
What have you been having trouble with? Other than being lost in Maridia, I'm also having issues with the Secret of Mana combat system (read: I suck at it) and ghosting through the Gambler's Room on Thieves Guild in Thief Gold is just about fucking impossible.
>>2777760
I stick exclusive to handhelds for my retro comfy, I just can't get comfy around my CRT
>>2777779
That's alright anon, to each his own. What are your favorite handheld comfy games?
I find adventure games really comfy to play at my lonely and boring night shift. So far I've just played KQ4, Loom and Monkey Island (halfway through it), but I'm having a great time, and I never got to enjoy these games as a kid, so it feels pretty great overall. Wonder if I'll be able to enjoy "talkie" ones like KQ5 or Day of the Tentacle, since I have to play them at low volume.
>>2778007
Grim Fandango is really one of the most comfy games I've ever played
>>2777760
I noticed it got deleted. Someone was upset about the lack of "competitive games where you get gud" if I recall.
Those early lucasarts games always fill me with comfy nostalgia. Maniac mansion, day of the tentacle, sam and max. They're so well illustrated as well that everything on the screen comes alive. I played DOTT just last night on scummvm while it rained outside.
I remember staying home from school on a snow day and playing my first rpg all day, dungeon explorer on turbografx 16. Probably my comfiest vg memory.
>>2778143
>I noticed it got deleted.
So, the Janitors are still fucking faggots, is what you're saying?
Some things never change on 4Chan.
comfy puzzle game recs?
i asked in the last thread but nobody replied
Shenmue is the king of comfy. Exploring a little 1980s Japanese town when it starts to snow. Ultra comfy.
>>2777779
I want to get a 3DS with the SEGA 3D classics just for this.
i finally got a super mario kart cartridge today and played battle mode with a friend i used to play the same game with back when the shit was new. notalgia was comfy as fuck.
>>2778157
Any particular system? I've been playing Mario Picross on the Game Boy and Baku Baku Animal on the Saturn recently and they're both fun and comfy as fuck.
>>2778161
snes but any system is fine
I play my Nintendo game box in my conservatory when it's dark and raining outside. Wrapped up in a blanket and a bunch of snacks. Only thing I seem to do since my grandad died
>>2778157
Lemmings
Humans
Chu Chu Rocket
Krusty's Fun House
>>2777760
>What are your go-to comfy games?
Monkey Island 2
Lunar
Grandia
Samurai Shodown RPG
Lunar 1 and 2
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Any Shining Force
Final Fantasy Tactics
Sega CD version of Dungeon Explorer
I think the reason I play so many RPGs is because of how cosy they are. They're games you can just really settle down with, and get into, for hours on end.
>>2778157
Not Retro, but I really enjoyed the Professor Layton games. The music is especially cozy.
Just got my emulationstation/retroarch setup humming
I might go through and capture screenshots of my comfiest games, pic related.
My favorite are the early levels that all fit on one screen.
Tetris on my NES. I just power up and get lost in the blocks man
This one would be comfier if it wasn't so god damn hard
>>2778334
But it isn't hard. Like at all. The game is 20 minutes long.
>>2778337
Something about the physics in midair feels wrong, I don't have problems with any of the other Mario titles. Anyways the soundtrack is bitchin' which is why I put up with it.
>>2778337
>>2778339
Anyways, pic related is much more enjoyable, though the soundtrack is an acquired taste. It's strange to feel so comfy for a game I didn't actually own as a kid.
I can't decide if they are comfier with shaders
>>2778364
or without
>>2777760
/vr/ mods, stern, stern but fair
>>2778397
>>2778403
Maybe this is my huge nostalgia speaking, but I think LA is way comfier on its original monochrome version.
Emulating on CRTs is comfy.
>>2778426
not retro
also looks like garbage
>>2778170
Not quite puzzle, but sort of: Kirby's Dream Course. God I love that game.
>>2778416
One of my favorite things. Glad I got to put mywiito some use.
Got my everdrive last week and I'm a huge banjo kazooie fan, never played DK64 so I'm slowly exploring a Rare platformer I've never played and know nothing about. Comfy as fuck
Cyberpunk point and clicks are always comfy to me. Beneath a steel sky is a good one, and is free on GOG
>>2779306
8 last time I checked, man.
>>2778157
The Game & Watch series on Gameboy has always been a personal favorite along with Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
A good bit of the Gameboy's library is pretty damn comfy if I do say so
>>2779805
>Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
This really is one of the most comfy marios. Not hard, but the music's alright and the levels bring the idea of "comfy" to a whole new level. I gotta replay this, thanks for bringing it up.
>>2778157
Dr. Mario, man.
Maximum cozy.

I recommend Flower Sun and Rain for NDS. You can play that game with one hand. Perfect game if you're drinking or eating.
What are some comfy games my waifu and i can play on our retrofreak?
>>2781975
That game is a fucking masterpiece. God I miss early Suda.
Sometimes I play a lot of SLIGE wads.
I can't stand modern Doom stuff (neither ports, maps, nor mods), so this is all that's left for me. But I can really zone out and get into an episode or megawad of these random maps.
Map in pic (E1M5) is generated with "slige-seed 759601594: -levels 8".
You can configure it, to some extent, to use different texture themes, but the architecture is always simple corridors and rooms. That makes it hard to get lost, and so on lower skill levels it becomes a way to just zone out, and on higher skill levels it's a straight-up hell fragfest to see how long you can survive.
SLIGE is the best fucking thing ever made for Doom.
Prince of Persia 2 - The Shadow & the flame.
I remember playing it two decades ago, then later one decade ago, and picked it up again lately. I tried to get it working in DosBox, but the audio & the cutscenes were fucked up, so I gave up.
Then, however, I found it on-line on the page snesfun.com.
Finished it until the 2nd ghost-city level and got stuck, because of the difference between the old and new version (couldn't jump from other screen and grasp onto a ledge of a switch).
comfy anyway.
>>2778007
I keep playing point and clicks while I'm in bed before sleep. Got stuck in Flight of the Amazon Queen and am too proud to look up a walkthrough. Since then I just wander around the jungle and fall asleep with the wiimote in my hand...
>>2778313
NES tetris is best tetris. All other versions are inferior.
>>2783076
You mean Tengen Tetris, right?
If so, you're absolutely right. Best version of the classic Tetris.
>>2783080
the tengen version is terrible
>>2783176
First time I read someone claim this.
What are your arguments?
>>2783176
I used to think this too. Nintendo version is more official-er, and Tengen is unlicensed dreck, right?
Turns out I was wrong.
>>2778157
adventures of lolo 1-3
Gate of thunder and musha aleste
1CCed both today, though musha was set on easy.
Both of these games are top tier stuff.
Yesterday I played blazing lazers, which I prefer over musha desu.
What's your guys' comfiest /vr/ music?
The Earthbound hotel music reminds me of those days I spent sitting in pajamas in a warm room with shag carpet playing Earthbound :3

SM is way too good at atmosphere, and entering the giant complex after being on the harsh surface is pretty great.

Hey op, I think the one of the comfiest games is the original Dragon Warrior on Nes, I love being the lone hero setting out on a quest to save the world with just my sword and some spells, talking to the people, seeing a town in the distance and fightan enemies to get there.
to bad there are not more games like that, others add in party members, weird mechanics, ect.
>>2783186
looks much worse, only get half the screen to play on, worse music, a bunch of useless game modes
>>2782065
That actually sounds pretty comfy, if the maps aren't too boring.
Good for lazy evenings without too much thinking.
Baldur's gate 1 is my comfy game. Love exploring the wilderness with my evil party giving snide looks to all the brown bears...
Anyone have any comfy recommendations for retro games on the eshop?
I have Mario Picross, DK'94, Link's Awakening, and the Oracle games which are all quite comfy.
>>2787575
>looks much worse
you don't like these little dancing guys?
>only get half the screen to play on
I don't see that as a problem, most puzzle/falling block games are like that since they're designed for 2 player mode
>worse music
okay, NES and GB music is classic and all, but bro....

??
I don't even remember that, I just play fucking Tetris
>>2788325
>Bradinsky
Dis guy knows what's up. Honestly I love both versions equally. I'm a bit obsessed with different variants of games, so I eat this shit up.
>>2782065
I've heard of OBLIGE, but not SLIGE. Gonna give this a whirl.
>>2778427
Also better than SotN.
>>2778416
Where'd you get that cool border? Is that a specific emulator?
>>2778373
Playing Pokemon games on the emulator always hurts my eyes during the battles because of the unending white

>>2790053
I love this game. The OST reminds me of when I accidentally deleted my friends save file when I was 6 years old. He started screaming at me and his dad told him to stop, and I got picked up like 20 minutes later. We never spoke again lol
flight simualtor x flying havana to miami and a cool storm pos up. The propellar planes are ultra comfy.
>>2777760
i know it's unoriginal but for me, earthbound
>>2792131
that's alright anon it's a great game and among the comfiest I ever played
>>2788319
Still looking for some more comfy games to play.
I'm about to dive into AoE 2's campaigns.
>>2777779
This.
I pull out my nomad and get comf
What does comfy mean anymore? I just want a game to help me fall asleep.
>>2794367
Comfy isn't sleepy
>>2794367
Tetris
Fire n Ice
Any Final Fantasy (kek)
>>2778364
Definitely with shaders on.
SMB3 and SMW are some of the comfiest games in the world
It's cold and windy outside.
Time to start up some Azure Dreams! This is simply the comfiest. One tower to explore (and try to reach the top) and one village, to spend your loot and romance some girls.
And that's it, the whole game.
It's perfect comfiness!
Bump for more comfort. Its cold out now and get's dark way to early.
>>2777760
My go to comfy game is FF8. My friend who has known me a while knows when I'm feeling down cos I tell him I'm thinking of playing FF8 again. Then he calls me names til I promise not to. It's not perfect, but it works.
Other comfy game is original harvest moon. I remember after I discovered zsnes booting that up on christmas eve. Weather outside was frightful, but my farm was so delightful. I had no place to go, so let crops grow, let crops grow, let crops grow. Was a good day.
>>2797038
those goombas
What's a comfy game to play with dinosaurs?
>>2800126
Yoshis island
adventure island 2&3
Just started up my first ever playthrough of Chrono Cross lately. The music is incredible, and the world is full of saturated colors. The character models look awesome for its age as well. The battle system seems really complex, but also seems like the kind of battle system that doesn't require a ton of thought if you want to just breeze through, like I have been so far.
I put off playing this game for years due to it being such a drastic departure from Chrono Trigger, but it's a lot easier to enjoy when I consider them completely separate. And goddamn is this game comfy so far.
>>2778336
The theme song to this game has been
playing in my head over and over again
today. As a kid, I use to play this game
so often that I wouldn't be able to sleep.
I would be laying in bed and have to get up
and check to see if I left my Gameboy on.
It would literally drive me nuts. It played so
loud in my head that I seriously thought
that I might have left the game on. Anyone
else ever had this problem with any game?
Or even just Pokemon?
>>2800241
How can you play Pokemon so often?
>>2800241
I had the same thing. Used to play it on car rides.
>>2800241
Same here, the Pokémon tune will play in my head unannounced from time to time
Any Kirby Game
Yoshi's Island
Gimmick
Fire n Ice
Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario World
Space Invaders
Tetris
Any Atari 2600 game, especially Pitfall.
Zoombinis
So is Tenga Tetris the comfiest Tetris?
>Currently Playing
Ultima I, HoMM I, Fallout I, and Settlers 2.
These games are going pretty slow. I've put Ultima I on and off several times now. The grind is a bit much and I may just skip it. HoMM 1 is pretty fun but the campaign is harder than the later games. Just picked up the Commandos pack, Blitzkrieg anthologies, and the Cossacks/American Conquest pack. Console wise I put everything on hold. I might be moving for grad school soon and I may just sell the console shit. Lot of money spent and I don't care to play them much.
