Pretty cool seeing this the first time not knowing anything about it beforehand, I thought I was fucked.

What I like way more than cutscenes are silent realizations.

I fucking love this one. And the one before the Nightmare Wizard.

Love these. Great case of show don't tell.

Pretty much all the cutscenes from Kirby games are great. The ones right before entering a new area.

Forgot how to spell his name, but that mini boss you have to fight by pushing him into the lava was cool. Really didn't expect him to bust back through the goddamn wall.

Ninja Gaiden series, especially the second one, and especially not the third one.

Music's a big part of it but this intro sequence is two good
>>
Does it have to be with the sprites from the actual game or do animations count?

If that cut scene took place nowadays it would last 5 minutes, be unskippable, contain bad dialog spoken by bad voice actors, QTE's, and the remainder of AIZ1 that follows it would be an unskippable "Press A to Jump"-tier tutorial. Am I right?

Anyway, my point is I'm glad older games cut scenes are the way they are. Which is usually nice and short and to the point, not too disruptive of the gameplay.

The first time I discovered this I almost cried. (I was, like, six or seven at the time so cut me some slack)
Ever since then I either avoid the room or ensure I don't kill the dog.

Amen.
>>
>>2767082
That cutscene is ridiculous.

Not only did Knuckles manage to knock the chaos emeralds off of Super Sonic, he was able to swipe them from right off under him.

If that's not enough, Knuckles was able to run off with them and leaving Sonic behind.
>>
>>2770987
Man that's some awkward dialog.
>>
>>2770943
To be honest Sonic 3 opening cutscene being a minute long and unskippable was already bad.

What games?

Comix Zone (I think) and Streets of Rage

god damn that background looks so awful without the composite blurriness.

honestly, Angel Island never looked too good, they aimed for a more "realistic" look, it doesn't have any of the weird checkered /geometrical terrain patterns that were a trademark in Sonic games.
Color palette is also a bit boring.

I like this one from IoG after the second boss.

15 seconds too long for a 2D platformer
>>
>>2776263
A whole generation of ADD-riddled autists was able to sit through those cutscenes, so I don't think they're that bad.

How mini is mini supposed to be?
>>
>>2771238
Those are artificial themeparks created by Eggman, Angel Island is supposed to be real nature.
>>
>>2779290

Pretty sure Green Hill Zone, Emerald Hill Zone and Palmtree Panic (sans bad future) are natural enviroment too.
