There was one dungeon where Amarant bailed on you because he thought he could do it himself. So he goes away and eventually you find him and he learns the power of friendship or whatever. That was his big contribution to the plot.I always put him in my party anyway because he's an extremely useful hybrid class. Hits hard and can heal/revive your niggas, and his Trance moveset is pretty great if I remember right.

That sort of Chrono Trigger approach to characters is great whenever it happens, but I honestly think people would be happy with less. Just a cutscene addressing the plot point would be fine. FF7 was good at this because you mostly revisited the character specific locations in disk 2 so everyone got a callback scene.

Riona survived until the end of the game and it's pretty clear that sorceresses are rare as shit in that world. Plus it's not like they're actually another race or anything, they're just humans with some God's power in them and some seem to mutate for some reason. You're not wrong, but getting to the point where you hit 9999 with any of those moves requires quite some grinding.
Hell, I stole items in almost every encounter, and Thievery only did 5000-6000 or so near the end.
Frog Drop and the dragon move are more straightforward, but catching 100 frogs takes a lot of time if you're not playing in turbo mode and is just not very fun.

Would have been nice if she'd had SOME kind of storyline. For instance, she wants to search for surviving ratfolk. Fratley survived after all, and it's not like all of them were In Cleyra at the time it was destroyed.
Could have also dealt with her having some kind of survivor's guilt or PTSD or some shit, and coming to terms with that, learning to live on.
Also you'd think she might hold a grudge against Beatrix, but nope it's never really explored. Would have been cool if there had been some bit near the end where she directly confronted Beatrix and maybe even had a solo boss fight (that was winnable). But we couldn't have that because the writers had such a major hard-on for shitty-ass Beatrix.
As it is, she may as well have died along with the rest of her race. It's bad writing, plain and simple.
pretty bummed out they didn't capitalize on the teamwork mechanic. i remember just vivi being able to enchant steiner's sword. shit, we could have had double summons, zidane catching a ride on freya's jump attack for like a super steal, amarant throwing a dinner plate at the enemy causing quina to do a massive eat/tackle thing. would have all been fun stuff
