When you see stuff like that, plus Ash/Dawn on all the DP promo material, etc. its easy to see why Pearlshipping became a thing in Japan despite Dawn not having any real canon crush on Ash.
Sometimes I think Ash/Dawn was the "testing ground" for the writers to see if people wanted a new Ash/main girl ship, but it was too late in DP for them to do it with Dawn so they waited and now they did it with Serena.

May had the funniest personalities of the main girls, as well as a temper. She could be clumsy/goofy/silly but also badass/arrogant/angry. What are you getting at here? I never said May got as much focus as Dawn. I also think May had more comedic moments, but to each their own I suppose. Lastly I like how we saw May gradually grow into being a trainer and coordinator rather than knowing what she wanted to do right away like Dawn did. May just seemed like a playful girl out on an adventure at first rather than trying to be a top trainer/coordinator.
