Rewatching some of the first few episodes, why are they some of the best XY has to offer?
Prism Tower and Garchomp, the meeting between Ash and each member of the gang, Ashs PTSD from BW making him lose his edge.
These episodes are great.
On that note, when will we see Ash get into a state similar to how he was after his loss to Viola. He's been on an absolute tear for nearly a year now, will Alan finally crush and knock Ash down a peg?
Why are we even arguing this? The status quo really hasn't changed since XY005. Just look at the relationship charts we got back then. Those still hold true to this day. Serena is in love with Ash, but too shy to confront him about it. Ash is appreciative of Serena for her support, and views her as a good/trusted fried, nothing more.

In the games, he used to be a philanthropist who dedicated his research to benefit mankind but became jaded once he was faced with how mankind always uses power for selfish reasons and went off the deep end by trying to kill every human in the world not part of Team Flare and every Pokémon in general so that a new perfect world would be born.
In the end, it was an interesting concept that was mostly wasted due to a terrible case of being told instead of shown. I hope the anime goes a lot deeper, especially since in the games Lysandre used to be Sycamore's coworker but you only see them together like once.
