Granted my first game is Blue and have been playing ever since, but it just hasn't been that prominent in the games or the anime.

Seriously, it would be at least a better NU tierish Pokémon now that it can also learn Cosmic Power.
So far it has Charge Beam, Work Up, Calm Mind and Cosmic Power to abuse Baton Pass, also Wish.
I don't know why Wonder Skin, the dex doesn't say much of its skin, it describes it as very lazy and pacific species.
If only it also had Slack Off and Normalize was buffed following the Gen 6 -ate abilities.
Another step would let Delcatty amd other Normal cats and Liepard passing fucking Sucker Punch and Quick Attack to Meowth through breeding. Fucking hell.
It sucks most of the time being a Gen 2 and Gen 3 Pokemon because it means you will have retarded and unreasonably low BSTs.

Just look at Carnivine and what it could have been if it evolved from Weepunbell. Literally a counterpart to Bellossom and Victreebel as much as Bellossom is counterpart to Vileplume on its own.
Would have mandatory better BST and egg moves including pre evo moves + own level up gimmicks and ability. Note how it was also introduced in a cross gen evo generation, like Bellossom.

Whenever you see it in game it's always closed because of that fucking ability, and more often than not you'll kill it before it has a chance to use Sunny Day, if it's even on its moveset. I've been playing Platinum for years and despite often re-exploring routes and location, fighting trainers again and visiting the routes where it appears I genuinely have no desire or bother to catch Finneon and Lumineon.
I have 999:59 hours officially registered but unironically have played at least twice this ammount, trained to L.100 Voltorb, Illumise, Dragonair and other derpmons of single stage or first stages, I did even train Unown forms and bred lot of Pokemon but never bothered to fish Finneon or Lumineon. You can't even barely meet them in Battle Factory L.50.

Seaking has Horn Drill, Lighting Rod, coverage, Magikarp and Finneon evolve into competitive mons, Remoraid evolves into a mon usable in Trick Room and able to learn shitons of attacks, Sharpedo has acceptable speed and good offensive stats, Luvdisc is a Heart Scale farm, Lanturn is usable and has Wish and decent typing, Relicanth has good offensive type and abilities and at least it can reach base 100 stats, Gorebyss and Huntail got buffs, Basculin despite bwing another forettable shitmon is at least a more viable shitmon than Lumineon with better stats and speed in general also good abilities. Other regional common aquatic Pokemon all have uses and even end being competitive. BUT NOT LUMINEON.
Lumineon can't learn Air Slash or Dazzling Gleam or Quiver Dance even despite its shit stats, dex entries and concept and poor movepool, it's abilities are all outperformed by other Pokemon, has no niche even for muh Tailwind. Has multiple base 69 stats that are very depressive amd lewd. Most useless fish.
I'm extremely neutral to it, doesn't even deserve hate. Few Pokemon affect me like it, Lopunny, Mismagius, Lucario, Gliscor, Watchog, Wigglytuff, some other Gen 5 mons, Wormadam, Mothim and maybe at least other 10 out of the around 800 we are about to have excluding forms and megas.
