Given how many pokemon have just now been introduced with things like new abilitites, new typings and new moves designed to break the mold of the existing meta, do you think The Veterans of OU will be dethroned? or will they remain for more than 20 years in their top tier?

i think the only way for gengar to be dethroned is if something that does everything it does but better gets introduced, or powercreep makes 110 a bad speed tier

Yeah it has been, Smogon even did an article on this back near the beginning of Gen 5. Starmie, Snorlax, Zapdos, and Gengar were OU all the way through to 4th gen, then Zapdos and Snorlax dropped to UU in 5th. Starmie has always been great, and a couple new items and moves through the generations has only made it better. I personally use a Choice Specs set that includes Trick, sometimes sending it out first to shut down a status lead or just ravaging it with offense.
There's plenty of things it can do though, it's nowhere near obsolete.
