You might be thinking of the bonus cards in the DP-era sets, which were redrawn versions of old gen 1 and 2 cards. There were only a handful of them.

I don't get people's hard on for most of the old cards. Most of them are just sugi art laid on a cheap photograph.

Half of the cards in the early sets were just stock artwork from the games. The only two hologram cards that I remember not being that way were Charizard and evolved Bulbasaur. They couldn't even afford to make art specifically for most of the cards.
