I finally hit level 20 today. This is my team at the moment. Wish it had a bit more variety in typing but cant complain.

Just hit level 15 myself today. I'd say you are doing alright. I've got a level 1044 Vaporeon and a 970 Snorlax (only because it spawned in my backyard) over you, so you're doing it right.
Hopefully, otherwise it means I'm wrong too but I think we are doing OK. Someone I ran into earlier today told me once you get closer to level 20, the levels spike again and you start running into more powerful stuff, around 1700+ or so. Don't give up.

I walked more today than I have in the past few months.
I've got a story to share.
>a lot of gyms and pokestops in my area
>our local mc donald's and burger king are right next to each other
>both are gyms
>burger king was taken by instinct, mc donald's by mystic
>in an hour the two switch about three or four times because they keep taking eachother's gyms but it always ends up being just how it started
>this continues throughout the day
>the next day, just walking around town
>both gyms are red
>go further, almost everything is red
>it's really early in the morning, those fuckers actually got up at night just to take over almost the entire town
>later, pass by the two fastfood restaurants again
>a group of about fifteen people standing there
>overhear them talking about valor
>turns out they were all mystics and instincts
>they were discussing how they should fuck up valor
>next day, all the gyms are blue and yellow
Mystic and Instinct actually teamed up to kick Valor's ass and it's amazing. I actually ran into a group of Valors and they acted more autistic than a three year old with extreme brain damage.
I didn't participate in any of this, I'm not level 5 yet but I'll join mystic. There's barely anything to catch here though, so I'm gonna go outside again soon and see if I can find something.

Took down three Valor gyms today between the hours of 1 and 3 AM. Staff'd 'em with pokemon between level 750 and 1000. Don't have any 1k CP pokemon yet, sadly.
That said...

Never discount type advantage, even in Go. Unfortunately, most gyms around here are stacked with water types, and grass/electric types are hard to come by. There's an occasional Oddish, but I've never been able to get enough of them for a Vileplume, let along a high level Vileplume. Same with Paras for Parasect.

My town is mostly split between Valor and Mystic. The other night, a couple of Instict fags, including one Japanese dude who's like... level 22, just ran through a large portion of both of our gyms. Needless to say, we both curb stomped them, and I sort of vultured a few red gyms.
