There were as many Dragon types introduced in Gens 5&6 (excluding Megas) as there were in Gens 1-4.
It was only relatively recently that dragons were officially stripped of their "special status". That's why we're getting more dragons that are shitmons like Drampa and Druddigon.

GF's mind works in weird ways they always seem to try to give fans what they most want. They do care and understand flaws of games, it's just that sometimes they realize they are swimming in money and don't really have to bother at all.

Ironically Gen 5 only gave us a single shitmon dragon. Everything else was treated as something pretty major. Even the Haxorus line, which are technically just normal Mons, almost feel like pseudos.
Gen 6 gave us a few more 'ordinary' dragons, but fewer than Gen 3 did and none of them were really 'shitmon'.

Do the Megas count to the gen the Pokemon were released in? Like, M-Ampharos is not a Gen 6 Pokemon, but a Mega of a Gen 2 Pokemon.
