Gen VI had a better region, better Pokemon diversity and better online features. The only thing BW did better was the story and music. You don't give a shit about the story after your first playthrough and Pokemon games aren't exactly known for their compelling stories in the first place (BW's story wasn't even particularly amazing, it's just that the standard of writing in every other Pokemon game is so low). I would also argue that Gen VI looked better, although Gen VI still looked awful compared to most 3DS games and the only reason Gen V looks so bad is because they opted to use awkward pseudo-3D and a dynamic camera. So that's not exactly much to brag about.
BW2 fixed a lot of BW's problems and that's why its arguably the best in the series.

It does have better team building and a a little more post-game than XY, but the actual main adventure is far more enjoyable in XY to me, the characters are more likable and memorable despite not being as fleshed out, the plot is executed better though the actual base premise is much less interesting, the Pokémon selection is more well-spread over the region, and there's a lot more mechanical polish. Also when I play Gen V the overworld feels really sluggish to control in a way none of the other Pokemon games do to me, even Gen IV or VI
I guess that's all just my opinion, though

I want to blame Gen V's localization, I hear it was fucked for both and generally the script was painfully dry, but pretty much every returning character other than the still dry gym leaders was actually likable to me in BW2

It was a fucking awful remake that didn't fix the glaring flaws of the original, and tossed in shitty gimmicks like following Pokemon and Pokethlon as normiebait. It was the fucking GO of 4th gen.
It was a cute idea but it needs to return with NPC's using hidden abilities as needed now that they're much easier to obtain. Also Red and Blue needed better teams. Red was always an absolute joke to beat when he should be the biggest threat there.
