Magikarp and Gyarados are based off an old Chinese story. There was a fish couldn't get up a waterfall. In order to overcome this, it eats birds until it grows wings, then flies up to the top of the waterfall, at which point it is eaten by a bird. For the longest time I was sure Vigoroth and Slaking were part Fighting type.
I can't believe the introduction of fairy didn't make Skitty or Delcatty Normal/Fairy at the MOST. Delcatty is such an elegant design and it has a fun movepool to dig through and it's so so so bad in battle, Normalize didn't help it, Wonder Skin helps but ugh.
They made Snubbull/Granbull pure Fairy (to be fair it was always the Fairy Pokemon?) and gave the Wigglytuff line Normal/Fairy, wtf gives with Skitty and Delcatty? They're pink and girly and fit the part, they evolve with moon stones and everything.
